In all honesty the scene looks to "chunky" or "blocky" to be from FF7.

It's a concept picture, meaning it's painted, not rendered from a high res 3d model. So while you are right about it not being from the game itself, it's for the wrong reason ;)

General Discussion / Re: FF music genre?
« on: 2006-12-27 21:29:50 »
While they are game music, the genre is more akin to classical, particularly in the case of tracks like the mentioned One winged angel and fithos lusec wecos vinosec. They may be made with midi/psf formats, but they're still classical inspired.

General Discussion / Re: FFVII Materia Growth

Just be aware that his "Tam Storm" attack is based on the total number of materias posessed by your party.

It does 1111 damage for each materia a character has equipped. So more than 8 materia = instadeath. Final Attack + Phoenix helps of course.

Quote from: #Sen-chan#
Oh dear. I have never had the W-Summon or Final Attack materia

Both from the combat arena in gold saucer. Be prepared to spend lots of time battling. Get 32000 BP's and buy Cloud's Omni-Slash (Ultimate limit break), then use him with a 4xCut materia to get the 64000 you need  for W-Summon. After that, go through the special match where you fight bosses to get Final Attack (8th battle is Proud Clod, so Cloud's Ultima Weapon +4xCut + Omnislash are fairly well essential.) Ultima Weapon is won buy killing the Ultima Weapon that floats around the world map.

And as noted by ChaosControl, Gamefaqs is your friend ;)

It's all good for a laugh, that's the point, it's what Pirate Bay are all about ;)

Someone to lean on and in turn be leaned upon by. In theory that should be able to last a lifetime but rarely seems to these days. There's much more of an emphasis on '#1' nowadays, so much so that even friends can end up hating each other over the stupidest of little things. Sad really, that we live in a world like that.

Holy thread revival Batman! :D Well it's not that old actually, less than a month anyway, so a new thread is pointless :)

Aria The Animation is such a sweet series (and the sequel of course). Clickies for bigger version:

General Discussion / Re: A question about FFVII
« on: 2006-05-27 16:41:06 »
Yeah, she'll do 9999 easily at fairly high levels if her limit gauge is nearly full, and her limit itself will do ridiculous amounts thanks to the gauge being full when you activate the limit. I personally never use Premium Heart any more, it's sucky how little damage it does while she's on low limit. Of course, you could leave her on full limit all the time and make use of command materias to enable 4x cut, Slash-All or whatever so she can still do physical attacks while on full limit.

All the characters require certain conditions for their weapons to do Max damage BTW.

Cloud (Ultima Weapon): Depends on his HP.
Barret (Missing Score): More AP on his materia the better it gets.
Aeris (Princess Guard): Double attack power when 1 character is KO. Triple attack power if 2 characters are KO.
Red (Limited Moon): Depends on his MP.
Yuffie (Conformer): Weapon has no powerup, it's rock-hard by default :D It's best used for Morphing enemies.
Vincent (Death Penalty): Depends how many enemies he has killed. More is better.
Cait Sith (HP Shout): Same as Cloud.
Cid (Venus Gospel): Same as Red.

edit: this only applies to their ultimate weapons, just to clarify for anyone who didn't realise. I've added the weapon names now as well to the above list.

Get your facts straight before you post please. I have tried low-level games, but frankly they bore the hell out of me. FF9 is the only one I've completed and that was simply to get myself Excalibur II, I then went straight out and started leveling.

"Level-up is for sissies and munchkins"

Yeah right, if that was actually the case then most RPG's wouldn't have a level-up system.

The point is that while it may cater to the tastes of people like you who want to go through at low level, it doesn't cater to people who want to go through at high-level, because it takes such a ridiculous amount of time to level. Which is why I compared to FF8, where the leveling system is a lot more refined and balanced and, frankly, enjoyable.

10
See, the thing is, I've played the game a lot. Like, 50 or more times. After a while, the leveling gets irritating because it takes so damn long. And when I've got work and other committments to worry about, I don't much feel like spending 5 hours just running around leveling. Sure, knowing the right monsters to fight (Magic Pot, Mover) helps, as does having an EXP+ materia on each character, but even then it still takes many many hours to level characters.

Archive / Re: FF8 problem
« on: 2006-05-24 22:23:17 »
Search the forums here, there's a topic with fixes for that problem (I imagine you have a new Graphics card like a GF6600 or something, cuz it doesn't happen on older cards like the FX series). I just run the game in Software mode now, I can't be bothered with all the problems any more.

I'll be happy with a remake with uber-sexy graphics, if they do more than simply give it a new look. There are quite a number of, um, faults for want of a better word, with FF7 that I would like fixed. To cliarify on what I mean by faults:

Leveling up. I'd be so much happier with a system closer to FF8 where you need 1000EXP per level, but the amount of EXP you gain is scaled depending on your level compared to enemy level. Leveling 8 characters to LV99 takes more or less forever with the current FF7 system.

Monster leveling. Same as above really, enemies need to level up with you like FF8. That would be nice.

AP gain on Materia. Holy hell, it takes even more work to level high-powered materias up than it does characters. Either less AP per level or more AP per monster. Or a new and updated system entirely :)

Limit Breaks. Not much to say really, I like them as they are and feel they're the best of any of the games that I've played. However, Vincent and Cait Sith could do with some lovin' (like being able to control Vincent while in beast mode).

Meh, there's plenty of stuff that could do with changing/ updating/ whatever, I just hope they do so. On the other hand though, they could change things and screw the game up completely as well. Tricky situation for Squeenix really ;)

I haven't sullied my ears with the english dub, thank goodness. The Japanese cast was perfect, every character was exactly as I imagined they should be (down to and including Cait Sith having an annoying and slightly high pitched voice). I was also kinda glad they killed the stuffed mog for the film and had him riding Red instead. I think the mog would have injected some really bad not-quite-humour into the film and would likely have ruined it.

The story didn't need to be anything special really, it was basically just giving the fans closure on the somewhat open-ended finale of the game. I wanted flashy effects, summons, and some kickass action involving Cloud. I was satisfied on all counts :D

UT2007 is top. Then probably Spore.

After watching the gameplay footage of 2K7 from E3, I almost orgasmed at how incredible that game looks (looks in both contexts of looking good and looking like it will play good too).

General Discussion / Re: FFXIII screens
« on: 2006-05-13 14:35:38 »
This is the first FF title since 9 to actually pique my interest. Shame it's on a stupidly expensive console that I'm no longer going to bother buying though, at least until it's a reasonable price. Meh, I'll have UT2007 to keep me occupied anyway.

When I said the link doesn't work any more, I meant the link on their site, not the one pasted here. I went to the main part of the site and tried accessing from there and it's still giving a page not found error. And even the newer link dziugo just posted leads to:

"The page you are trying to access does not exist.
Please select a page from the main menu."

Good site, not :)

Not for a long while I would imagine though. Fate/Stay Night is still airing now, and it's unlikely they'd animate a sequel until a good 6 months after the finish of Stay Night. I would like to see Hollow Ataraxia as an anime though :)

ye-roon - Fate/Stay Night is a game by Type-Moon, the anime is adapted from that. Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is the sequel to Stay Night, hence has the same characters plus a few new ones.

Handily enough I happen to have mine uploaded after posting it to another site, so I'll just dump the link here (img tags would likely upset people with my 1600x1200 display ;) ).

I'm a link!

Archive / FF8 Black blocks
« on: 2006-03-23 16:11:21 »
Why is everyone so concerned about playing in hardware mode? I got a 6600GT a while back and it did the black blocks thing, so I just play in software mode. There is no difference, apart from some of the blending in menu backgrounds looking a little nicer in hardware mode. On a modern pc there is really no performance hit running in software, so why all the moaning?

*Shrug*

Well, whatever. I'm happy with both 7 and 8 running in software, it's not as though it makes a real difference. Unless... it's an ego thing? "Oh noes! I have this uber expensive graphics card that I can't use because the drivers don't support the game properly! I must get this working to avoid my ego being bruised!" In which case, I pity you.

This isn't particularly aimed at any one person BTW, so don't take it as such. It's just kinda silly the lengths people will go to to get the precious hardware mode working on older, unsupported, games like this.

Interesting. Especially when you consider that Zack is dead and buried outside Midgar at this point, after being gunned down by Shinra soldiers while protecting Cloud.

Remind me to recruit you when I start modding UT2007 ;)

Only thing I'll say is that I'd add some wet specular highlights to the scales for more of a glistening shine so it doesn't look so matt. Other than that, it's looking mighty fine, as your work always tends to :)

Gameplay / BETA - 9999 Limit Breaking support thread

I lent my copy of FF7 to a friend at work, about two days before coming down with serious illness. Typical. Really need to get it back from him so I can try all this funky-ass shizz being released at the moment. Well, from the screens it looks darned impressive, can't wait to try it out :)
