Title: Ripping models etc.
Post by: *:.Griever.:* on 2008-05-30 12:32:40
Hey guys, I am pretty sure this will have been asked, but I'm on a college computer right now and most links don't work, including search. :-(
I just want to ask which programs I would use to rip models from Kingdom Hearts etc. And what I would do to get them in game, perhaps a tutorial if there are any existing ones?

I don't want to put anyone to trouble, so if there are none fair enough.

I tried building them from scratch before but I failed miserably so I'm hoping ripping models directly would require nothing more than a few adjustments in the texturing and such.

Thanks in advance to any help. :-)

Edit: I just thought, if there's already an open thread on this subject, could someone just refer me to it, then Snyergy Blades could close this thread if it's useless. :-)

I may be breaking policy here, but while I'm sure there may be a thread for those purposes, it's faster for me just to tell you:

You need to find a program named KHdump or KH2dump (depending on your needs) they were created and hosted on yasz0r's blog, (though he no longer supports them and will be angry if you ask about them, fair warning.)

They may be hard to find... Also you will need a program called ModelViewerWXD3D9_0.3... also this will be difficult to find... and also made by yaz0r.
If memory serves, there was a KH to OBJ converter for the models as well... but I don't know where it is...

You will more than likely need 3ds Max (for safety try to find version 7 ) there are a few free trials of it floating around... and there's also... another method of getting it... but none of that here.

If you find Max somehow, you should get 3D Ripper DX, it will allow for a second way to convert the models...

No matter what you do you'll need a few technical skills... not difficult... but maybe a little bit to learn at first... I don't know your level of skill so...

Anyway, look for those...

Okay will do, I have a fair amount of programming skills, but they lie in the language programming, c, ++ , basic, vb, and a little xhtml coding, basically nothing that will really help me here I assume.  I shall look for the programs you entioned however, and I do have a legit copy of 3ds max, so all's cool on that end. :-P

Very good to hear... it's not often I find people who are already skilled... then again I'm not used to being here either... I'm used to dealing with my collegemates... who... seem... "simple" sometimes...

Anyway good luck with the ripping.
