System folders are any folders generated from a clean install of Windows.

C:\Users\Admin\Desktop\Steam\SteamApps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\

The bold is always created from a clean install of Windows, so it's treated as a system folder.

Oh, I didn't know that. So making literally any folder in C: will fix it, so long as I reinstall steam there?

Okay, so reinstalling and following the steps more closely, along with the information I got from you guys made it run uh... differently. The menus still doesn't work, but it exists, and there are way less errors in the APP.log file.

Whenever I start the game, I get the options for new game and continue, but I can't select either of them and none of my keys do anything.

You have a keyboard without a numpad, which is common for laptops. The numpad is where the default keys are set. Bootleg has a check box in the Game tab to patch a Laptop Keyboard, but this can be done manually as well.

Download this ff7input.cfg and place it in the game folder: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7ZrngjoUqm-Wm9UMEQ2STZnVmM/edit

It's working now, thank you. Some of the keybindings are a bit weird, though I can change those. The game is running fine now, thank you for helping!

Re: [Tutorial] Tifa's Bootleg strange crash not in FAQ
« Reply #1807 on: 2013-12-03 18:52:03 »
Hello,

first of all thank you this community is awesome. I saw ff7 on steam and like many, I bought it and I'm very pleased. Sadly, backscreens suck, they were really poor so I looked for a way to increase resolution and I found bootleg; I folllowed instruction carefully, didn't worked. I removed FF7, did it again.

FF7 does launch, I come to new game / load game screen.

If I do new game, game crashes after fullscreen black

If I load the game I started 2days ago ( copied save game) the game starts ! with all mods it looks wonderful. But if I enter a town or fight the same full black screen appears (with music) and game crashes. What can it come from ?  I'm Win7 64b with ff7steam

Your Flevel.lgp appears to be missing, don't know how you managed that.

what might be the problem, if the 'write cfg' button doesn't do anything, and the settings dissappear after i close that window.
and also, what do i do, if the characters' field and battle models are white?

It's not finding your battle files. For whatever reason, they aren't installed correctly. I have no way of knowing what you installed or how you did it differently to end up with missing files. My only suggestion is to copy/paste your save folder somewhere safely, then redo the game installation and modding.

what might be the problem, if the 'write cfg' button doesn't do anything, and the settings dissappear after i close that window.
and also, what do i do, if the characters' field and battle models are white?

No idea, I've never heard of Write CFG not working. You can always manually edit the settings in ff7_opengl.cfg,

Can you post a screenshot of the white models? There is a section in the FAQ dealing with a couple white screen scenarios, but your situation sounds different.

Music in game doesn't work (Sounds, such as the battle into's still work) and i have no idea how to save or skip the intro.  I have already tried downloading the patch for the laptop music but the link is down. Could u tell me how to save or skip cut scenes and also how to fix music ASAP?

Hello,

this is my first post and i'm happy that the registration finally worked!

So, first I want to thank all people, that are giving so much heart in such
an amazing project! That gives a new FFVII experience ;)

Sorry for my english, since its not my motherlanguage.

I'm playing the steam version of the game.

I have some problems with the mods, hope someone here can help me out:

1) Virus Problem:
As i went through the installation process described in the start post, my antivirus made alert:
Avalanche GUI v2.0.8.exe --> TR/Offend.2.2262' [trojan]
FF7 BarCorrectionPatch.exe -->  'TR/Offend.2.2262' [trojan]

So i had to disable the antivirus program.

And when i wanted to start the game, the following files made problems:
[...]\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\Multi.dll' -->  'TR/ATRAPS.Gen' [trojan]
[...]\common\FINAL FANTASY VII\FF7 Load Saved Games By Kranmer.exe --> 'TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen5' [trojan]

I don't want to say, that the files are a trojan, thats just what antivirus gave me. Why is that?
It's annoying when you want to start the game and it makes alert or you have to disable the program whenever
you want to play.

2) Language problem:

I got the mod working, but i saw, that my game is "denglish" :D it's confusing...
That means, texts in the normal environment are in german (i play the german version in steam^^)
but the texts in the menu are a mixture, most parts english and some german in the descriptions of materia.
In battle field --> english

Can you please tell me if there is a possibility to mod the game and play it completely in german?

In the bootleg i choosed the language german^^

3) Music bug

For the soundtrack options I choosed: Anxious Heart Original
When you send the character to sleep, the melody which normally comes up, isn't to hear.

Thanks!

Kobe

open the menu and press 'Save', maybe? either at save points or anywhere, if you enabled the 'save anywhere' mod.

There isn't a patch for laptop music. Not sure where you got that. There is a patch for no music in the FAQ section on the first page. Set your sound device again in FF7Config and open FF7Music (find it in your game folder) and check the music files it's using.

1) Turn off your AV software when Bootleg is installing (it says this in the tutorial). They are false positives. None of the mods will harm your PC  :)

2) A lot of the translation options don't work well, or at all. Mods that modify specific menus aren't properly translated outside English, so you probably picked a mod option that is English only. I would love to fix the translation options for a future release, but the problem lies in getting reliable translators who know English as a second language well enough and who don't quit after starting the project  :(

3) Post that in the Anxious Heart thread.

ok mods installed but when i launch the game its a white screen ? i can sort of read New game and Continue but when the game starts its still just a white screen.

Read the FAQ please. There are a couple situations of white screens/textures and how to fix them.

The patch for no music in the FAQ is down and how do i check my music files through FF7music?

I updated 2 new download links in the FAQ.

To check music files, open FF7Music.exe and click the Configure button. Then go to the Files tab and the drop-down menu will list all the music Profiles you have installed. Make whatever else changes you want in there and click Save and Exit.

My texture problem looks like this:

Barret looks the same and the battle model textures only pop when the cursor is over his head.

EDIT: It was the 'Shaders' option in the Bootloader configuration.

Read the FAQ please. There are a couple situations of white screens/textures and how to fix them.

Thanks for your answer!

1) I disabled it, as i mentionend in my post. But the problem (virus alert) appears also when i want to start the game.

2) There must be a solution. Aren't there specific files which are for the languages? So I could copy them from the original
files and add them to the specific folders? :) But I don't know which files they are and where they belong.

3) Ok.
