So I did a clean install of my FFVII Steam Edition today, and on loading the mods that I use from the catalog, I keep getting crashed out before the game starts. I have been utilizing the Launch Game button from the 7H interface and not attempting to load direct from the EXE.

Sad part is that it seems to be related to Beacause, as it only crashes when this mod is enabled.  I know other people get it to work, and none of the multiple posts that I have read have been able to help me make any progress.

Can you try running your setup with the Gameplay Cheats and Tweaks deactivated and tell me what happens. There have been several reports lately with certain options in it being an issue.

Unfortunately, the same result with Cheats & Tweaks turned off.

And just so I am clear, BC+MO necessitates the use of ff7_bc.exe, whereas just MO requires ff7_mo.exe, correct?

Yes, ff7_bc.exe is used when MO+BC are both activated.

I just loaded your exact profile, and my game starts up. One thing I notice in your APP.log is that FF7Music is being loaded in. Go into Aali Driver Settings -> Audio -> Music Plugin and change it to use VGMStream. I doubt this is the cause of your startup crash, but at least we don't have to worry about that anymore.

If the game still crashes, run the game converter again and choose the Overwrite option. The next step in your APP.log is to initialize the sound, so when the FF7Config window appears during the game converter, be sure the sound device drop-down isn't left blank. In the past, when this was left blank, the game window would launch and immediately close without any crash or error message, so I'm not sure this will solve your issue.

Just checking in (apologies for the semi-necro), and letting you know that I tried all of the above, and made sure my settings were EXACTLY as displayed in the installation tutorial. Unfortunately, I am still having no luck regarding my crashing issue. I have narrowed it down to being the fault of The Reunion, which is a damn shame because it was one of the primary reasons I wanted to get into a modded copy in the first place.

Well, guess it may be time to move on to something else to waste my time.

If it crashes before the game starts try:

  • Error when launching game
         Right click your 7th Heaven.exe and select properties, compatibility tab and set it to run as admin.
         Go to the same tab but for FF7.exe and tick the box that say "Run in 640x480"(Do the same for all other exe's).
         This will not actually affect your gameplay as 7th Heaven takes over it anyway.

Since you last posted there's been a Big List of Bugs added that has a lot of these issues and solutions listed. I hope if this doesn't fix your issue one of them will, and if they don't hopefully a solution can be found and will be added to the list :)
