I don't hate many games so I'll tell you my top five fave rpgs:
1. Diablo II: LoD
2. FFVII
3. FFIX
4. Deus Ex
5. FFVIII

FFVII gets the boot because of it's compatibilty.

You see, I haven't played too much Square games, the same thing's going with other RPGs ... the FF series seem to be only RPGs I have played.

Personally I don't like games where you can't see your own character, unless you are flying something, and I haven't played those in awhile. And the story for Paladin's Quest was just repaticious: "Find that dungeon, beat it." Nothing new you know as in storywise...

The music is the kind that gets stuck in your head... but the music in Mystic Quest isn't that bad.

Alot of these new modern games have good music such as Wild arms and the Final Fantasy. Though I personally think Castlevania has some of if not the best game music.

Squaresoft USA didn't make FF Legend.
They were made by Squaresoft Japan, but they are actually a different series called "Saga." "Saga" "Saga 2" and "Saga 3" were translated into English and renamed "FF Legend" "FF Legend 2" And "FF Legend 3"

ANYWAY
My favorite RPGs (because of story and my first impression mostly)...:
1. FF 6 (Gave me a very nice first impression when I first played it)
2. FF 7 (Who doesn't like it?)
3. Tales of Phantasia (If you haven't played this game... give it a try)
4. Chrono Trigger (Quite possibly one of the best RPGs ever)
5. FF 4 (well, it seemed like a lot better game the first time I played it, years and years ago. I loved it then :-p )

Note those aren't really in any particular order... Just the order I thought of them in.

My least favorite FF is FF8 - - I think its an ok game, but its just a bunch of fancy graphics covering up a pretty crappy gameplay system (the drawing / junctioning crap) and an "average" story (as has been addressed in numerous threads in the past). FF9 is a little better I think, but not too much. FFMQ was easy and rather predictable. Diablo and Diablo II may be RPGs, not really. Haven't tried FFX, opinions?

Hey, don't forget the Secret of Mana series!

Epecially the multi-player mode. It's really cool to have your character about to be KO'd when your friend (who's sitting right next to you, and NOT somewhere over the internet) saves your butt. And then, of course, there's the hours and hours of fighting over who gets to drive Flammie......

Goku7: I'm not sure what you meant by that, but I think you can do multi-player battle control in FF9 too. Never tried it though

Hmm, for some reason I seem to remember posting this before, strange.

Anyway, I havent played many RPGs, only FF7, FF8, FF9, Xenogears, and a bit of FF6 and Chrono Trigger, so:

1) FF7
2) Xenogears
3) FF9
4) FF8

I've heard FF6 is out on PS1 in the UK now, is it true? And what's it like? Are there improved graphics and stuff? If it is out I'm definitely getting it.

No improved graphics. It has three movies, and an enemy database, but I don't like the PS version because the load times are awful.
