I've been scanning the seventy-some pages and I can't seem to find a previous posting with my issue, so hopefully someone can help.
I ran a clean installation of FFVII from steam and word-for-word followed the instructions for the bootleg. I configured the bootloader to my graphics card (NVidia GeForce GTX 660M) according to other posts within the thread. I can boot up the game just fine and am presented with the New Game/Continue screen. I select "New Game" and the screen goes blank for a second, then the game closes out and I get the "FF7.exe has stopped working" window and it just tells me that there was an issue. I've tried messing around with all of the settings in both the bootloader and configurator 1.02 in order to try to alleviate the problem, but the only thing I can manage to do is get the game to fail fullscreen and revert to windowed mode. The odd thing is that when this happens, I sometimes get to the opening cutscene. I'm new to this site, so if I need to provide more information, please let me know.

I hope that someone can help and look forward to being able to enjoy the game in HD

For whatever reasons, your installation didn't go well. It's trying to access files from the flevel.lgp that aren't there. Try starting over from the very beginning.

I've been scanning the seventy-some pages and I can't seem to find a previous posting with my issue, so hopefully someone can help.

Try running the 314.22 drivers.

Still a large portion of the screen cut off... it helped but still not playable.

EDIT!!!!
I fixed it. That was dumb.
I have my monitor set at a resolution of 1920x1080, as you know the higher the resolution the smaller the text. Since my monitor is my HDTV i had gone an upscaled the text in order to see it better, this inadvertently caused a lot of my games to be bigger than my screen would allow, as seen on page 69.
I recommend placing this fix in the FAQ section of this mod incase anyone has the same issue I did. All i did was set the dpi scaling back to default, from 120%.
Thanks for the attempts at help yall i appreciate it.

Hey everyone,

First off, thanks to all the contributors that made the Bootleg project possible. I've been excited to jump into playing FFVII again with some renewed elements, so I've been trying to make this work since I learned about this from Cracked yesterday. Got out my old first release version of FFVII for PC by Eidos from 1998 so I could make this happen. But alas, running into some issues.

So, my problem is rather straightforward.

The game crashes immediately after I launch FF7.exe.

Here's what I've done to try to troubleshoot this.
I've done several installs, uninstalls and reinstalls of the Bootleg mods through the Tutorial provided by EQ2Alyza.
I've also done all the applicable steps in the FAQ too.

My computer is a Laptop running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. CPU is an Intel i7-3615QM. Graphics card is a GeForce GT 650M with Driver version 314.22 (as suggested by the FAQ).

Here's my APP.LOG:
Code: [Select]
INFO: FF7/FF8 OpenGL driver version 0.7.11b
INFO: Auto-detected version: FF7 1.02 US English
INFO: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce GT 650M/PCIe/SSE2 4.3.0
INFO: Using PBO
INFO: Found swap_control extension
INFO: Max texture size: 16384x16384
INFO: Number of texture units: 4
INFO: Original resolution 640x480, window size 1280x960, output resolution 1280x960, internal resolution 3840x2160
INFO: FBO extension detected, using fast scaling/postprocessing path
INFO: FFMpeg movie player plugin loaded
INFO: FFMpeg version SVN-r25886, Copyright (c) 2000-2010 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
INFO: No shaders, codecs with YUV output will be slow.
INFO: FF7Music helper plugin loaded
INFO: Loading external library Multi.dll
LOCK UNLOCK TEST
MATRIX INITIALIZE
INITIALIZE DD/D3D END
initializing sound...
creating dsound primary buffer
reading audio file
loading static sounds
sound initialized

Some other information I've found from looking at my application log is that the error is caused by ff7_opengl.fgd. I've even gone to the Aali's Custom Graphic Driver FAQ page to see if this is a common issue, which apparently it is for Nvidia cards. Sadly, none of those troubleshooting tips worked either (turning off shaders, etc).

It seems to a problem with the OpenGL driver, as I was able to get the game to launch to the Start/Continue screen as a vanilla install, but unable to start as it is a laptop keyboard with no numpad.

So any help in getting this working would make my day!

Thanks in advance!

MS,

When you say crash, does Windows give the message that "...has stopped working."?

Yes,

It gives the error that FF7.exe has stopped working and does the error report thing to Microsoft.

First, my thanks to all involved in this project.

I am a bit slow with these things but over the course of 3 days I got Tifa's Bootleg to run on my computer. While playing I noticed the glitch mentioned in the FAQ where Barret uses a melee animation with a ranged weapon. I ran though the fix covered there but now the game freezes at the start of the first battle after Barret joins the party. I have probably botched this in some way beyond my comprehension; please advise

I am trying to run this on an 64 bit Windows 7 Pro HP EliteBook 8560w with an Intel i5 2.60GHz and 1gb AMD Firepro 5950 GPU (I think)

I'm having a similar issue, i've installed the 2012 remake and i've done everything correct with Bootleg, cept when I had to manually install the GUI stuff but here's my APPlog.

Edit -  Is the Bootleg modification supposed to delete and recreate the BIN files needed in the game? O.o  Some errors came up in reinstallation about Scene not being found or something.  Which could be a reason for one problem I had.

Okay, I reread everything that I had to do. xD I installed it to c:games directory  as recommended and the bootleg worked as well as turning off the UAC and antivirus.  Tifa, you have done a great job on this, lemme say for someone interested in modding. I am very glad that an easy installation like this is around.

This morning I accidentally uninstalled without unmounting the virtual drive. xD DERP. Then rebooted so I can do it again but now it's giving me crap. >:C I was trying a lot of major things because the enhanced menu style in the overhaul selection is making the graphics twitch in some parts, you know how on some Nvidia cards or ATI ones that you see square lines or straight lines in some picture areas in the game?  I removed the enhanced menu and it worked with others, just gotta try to reinstall it AGAIN. :|

Anywho, I love this, it was worth the torrent download. Thank you, and god bless. :O

Which directory do you have the game installed?  If you have it installed in Games then everything should have gone fine.

Not at all, there can be a million problems other than the install directory. Can you post your APP.log please?

Hi, I recently installed Tifa's Bootleg for Final Fantasy 7 and my game crashed whenever I got into a battle with Yuffie.  She kept moving forward and did invisible attacks. I cannot run the game in compatibility mode it seems, and yes I have a custom model installed for yuffie.  Can anyone help me with this problem? I had 40-50 viewers watching my stream and they were all disappointed by this :(

There is probably an issue with your Yuffie model. Which one are you using?

Good point there man.  And hey, I have had past problems before, it could be that he's missing certain mod files to interact and recreate the files in the LGP's.  But who knows. I had that problem before a couple days ago, took me a while to figure out some things if you want me to elaborate. I was quite impressed with the work, but the internal resolution was my big issue, not the mods. o.o

Hi again.  I fixed the problem myself.  It was a bad yuffie model.  I was using an AC Yuffie model I believe, and I basically switched in another yuffie model for the old on in the battle.lpg files.  I'll be back if any other problems occur.  So far, the game runs flawless even when streaming at 1080p (www.twitch.tv/novakakaz)  The only 2 problems I had was the yuffie battle freeze and the bike minigame going beserk on me.  I have Vsync on and I'm running on a 120hz monitor but I limited my refresh rate to 60 in game.

Yes,

It gives the error that FF7.exe has stopped working and does the error report thing to Microsoft.

-MS
  • Uninstall the game, then delete the entire folder. It will have leftover mod files that will interfere with a reinstall if they aren't deleted.
  • Use this tool to clean your registry keys: HERE
  • Start from STEP 1 of the tutorial.
I had not updated STEP 1 with Kompass' latest 0.9b FF7 Game Converter. A similar problem to yours occurred on a report awhile back. Same APP.LOG, same FF7.exe crash. I'm hoping it's just an incorrect usage of the FF7 Game Converter.

You definitely botched the import somehow. It's showing errors with Barrett's battle files.

Yes, I'll be updating this for the new Bootleg release. I believe PitBrat and Vgr are working on a complete overhaul of the installation process, so things may change drastically. Things have been quiet for a couple months now, so I'm not sure when the next release will be though.

I know that FMV's run at 12 fps, and then all other parts of the game run at either 15 or 30 fps. I've never run into someone reporting with a 120hz monitor, but I know the game is not coded to run on 60 fps at any points. That may have sped up your minigame to an uncontrollable speed.

I see, can you keep me updated on it Tifa? I really love this and I grew up on FF7.  It's a big memory to me, brings back a lot of good memories.  I'm checking almost everyday, it's so exciting to know about the updates.  If I had the right education in something like this, I could help.

Hi all. First of all thanks to Alyza for helping me with the registration and sorry for my bad english. I have a problem with the translation (I use the steam version). I think that the problem is touphScript, cause during and at the end of the installation I receive the following message:

Quote
Error in blackbgb: converting to field failed, Attempted to read 323135 bytes from 36fe

There's a way to use the last version of touphScript with Tifa's Bootleg?

Thanks for the help!
