FF7 GameConverter stuck patching
« on: 2019-02-26 06:39:43 »
Whenever I try to use the game converter it is stuck on patching.

I am running FF7_GameConverter_7H.exe as an admin

my game is located at
D:\Games\steamapps\common\FINAL FANTASY VII
so it is not an issue with being located in program files

I have tried mounting FF7DISC1.ISO as an image, renaming a hard drive as FF7DISC1, and renaming a USB as FF7DISC1

FF7-REMOVE-Keys.exe always removes 1 key even if I just ran the program and deleting the keys in regedit manually does not seem to work as there is nothing to delete.

This is what FF7_GC.log says

It looks like the installer doesn't find your installation path. You sure you entered it during the installation process?

Yeah if you noticed in the log file I did the manual input method since it could not find my game.

Having the same issues as well. Reinstalled the game multiple times in different hard drives/flash drives. The converter does not get past "Patching..."

Have you tried removing registry keys upon each uninstall before installing again?

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14421.0

This may or may not help, but it's worth a shot.

Edit: Also, have you tried running the GC as admin.?

I've tried to remove keys after uninstalling each time, and I'm not sure if it is doing anything.

You are running "Windows 10 Enterprise" on an 64 Bit Operating System (AMD64)
now in 32Bit WOW64 Mode

This Script will remove the Registrykeys which are
used for the old (1998) Release of FF7.

You will need to remove these Keys if you want to modify a
Rerelease or a Steam Version of FF7 with some kind of
       "new to old Patch"

Should I go on? [Y,N]?Y

It just stays on that screen.

Do you have a virus scan active? Items making registry changes like that can trigger AV defense systems. And are you running the registry key remover as admin?

Avoid installing into the following folders: Program Files, Program Files (x86), Users

Be extremely thorough when going through the modding tutorial for 7H.

Its the steam version of the game and this is the first time im having a problem with it i did this awhile ago and it worked perfectly now its mostly just the whole factor of it not recognizing that the fake disc is mounted but its pointing to drive (I), also tried the usb method with no results, i will try getting the game installed outside of program files and see if it clears up the problem then ill get back on here. '/I': is not a proper drive letter. It should be saying I:\ so I don't know what's going on with your converter. The FF7_GC.log should look like this:

Yeah its strange and i still cant figure out whats going on im thinking that it might have something to do with the registry but im not entirely sure im going to try a few things over the next week and see if i can fix it somehow.

EDIT: OK im an idiot i should have gone through more posts and checked for more solutions, it was thanks to this http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17171.25 and the suggestion of find.exe apparently my devkitpro had one that was interfering with the converter i am sorry to have bothered you about this and i also vote it should be on the FAQ.

I fixed my "patching..." problem, would like to confirm before posting anything more user friendly though.

I commented out the section of code that was self-labeled as setting compatibility flags. Then everything else ran smoothly in both the removekeys and converter scripts.

You may of course need to play with your compatibility flags manually later. I had to set my exes to 640x480 compatibility (don't worry it runs in higher res for some reason...) and high-DPI scaling-> application to get 7th heaven working.

I'm trying to install Remako right now, and having this same issue, again.

I don't know if it means anything to anyone, but only one find.exe file was found on my drive, in the windows\system32 folder. However, I saw Rakheesh's post about compatibility settings, so I ran the compatibility troubleshooter (yeah I know, I'm getting pretty desperate here).

It spat back at me to run it with compatibility settings for Windows Vista Service Pack 2. So that's what I'll try next.

This is very frustrating. Nothing I am doing is working at all.

I've deleted the registry keys, over and over, and reinstalled the game over and over. It has been two days.

Is there any way to fix this? Why won't it get past "Patching..."? Are there answers to this question?

Have you tried disabling any firewalls or antivirus settings? If you have then I’m not sure what else you can do.

im having the same exact issue, to start with...i installed ff7, followed the mod guides to the letter, remove keys and the game converter worked, but the game was acting weird, so i just uninstalled ff7 and i was gonna do it again, but now when i try to remove keys, it doesn't do anything, the remove keys goes idle on "Should i go on? [Y/N]Y...".....and when i try the game converter, it goes idle on "patching...."

I finally fixed the "Patching..." issue and its the most dumb thing ever..

If you are using a certain version of windows once it says "Patching..." and appears to  be doing nothing its actually asking you a security question that the patcher dosent show!

Just hit Y and enter.

Boom works... so stupid.
