General Discussion / Where's Reunion gone?
« on: 2020-07-04 16:49:33 »
Hi all, I haven't been around these parts for about three years. I just decided to replay FFVII after finishing the Remake and my Reunion mod is playing up a bit -- everything seems to be in slow motion for some reason. So I thought I'd come here and see if I could get some support, but everything has disappeared?

The links to old threads indicate that they're either hidden or deleted. Is there a new thread for everything Reunion somewhere? I've tried searching but I can't find it, and oddly it seems DPLB is now banned?

What happened? Thanks!

Misc. Graphical Releases / PSX Button Images
« on: 2014-01-08 14:26:36 »
I've been asked a few times for copies of the PSX images I started. You can download the PSD here and use them however you want:

If you want to give me a credit should you use them, that would be cool. Thanks :)

General Discussion / FFVIII's Menu Gradients...
« on: 2013-11-26 11:59:52 »
I always wondered why FFVIII's gradients aren't as smooth as FFVII's? They're bits of purple, orange, red in there.

Consider this comparison (top: FFVIII / bottom: Photoshop equivalent)

Is it a design choice, or a limitation of the engine?

Troubleshooting / Texture Locations
« on: 2013-09-25 16:47:11 »
Thanks to EQ2Alyza I understand where the Battle Scenes textures are stored, but I was wondering if people could direct me to the location of:

- Spell Textures (i.e. the effects you see when you cast spells)
- World Map Textures (i.e. the textures used when you're on the world map)

Thanks a lot!

EDIT: According to the Wiki, the World Map is stored in WM0.BOT and WM0.MAP -- perhaps the textures are stored in world_us.lgp? :-/

This is a simple tool (actually just a glorified batch file linked with Luksy's ulgp.exe) that allows you to quickly extract all 583 textures from battle.lgp. It saves a lot of time for anyone who wants to start re-texturing the battle scenes.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzZG8hMrQocwSGNWYzQwSkU0Z0E/edit?usp=sharing

Instructions
1. Extract the three files into a folder.
2. Place battle.lgp in the folder.
3. Double click "RunMe.bat"

That's it!

Then just use IROS TEXTOOL to convert all 583 files to PNG.

0.2 UPDATE: Now much faster, thanks to Lusky.

Troubleshooting / Re-Texturing FF7 2012
« on: 2013-09-20 17:13:06 »
I'm keen to learn more about re-texturing FF7 (2012). I understand that it uses the TEX format and there are tools which allow conversion of these textures into other formats, and back again.

If anyone can help answer my questions, I'd be very grateful.

1. Does the game mind if you x4 the textures and resave them back into the game? (Some games make everything 4x bigger to accommodate the bigger files - like Grim Fandango. Others will happily increased the texture resolution for you - like System Shock 2.)

2. What's a good tool to extract all the textures into a PNG/BMP format so I can start editing them?

3. What other things do I need to take into consideration when editing textures? (Maybe someone could point me to a tutorial?)

Thanks a lot.

Graphical / Questions about the Battle Scenes
« on: 2013-09-19 23:12:21 »
Hi, I was wondering if someone could explain to me how I might go about increasing the texture resolution of the Battle Scenes and World Map? Some games are great at allowing you to multiply the texture resolution by four (for example), add a lot more detail, and then slot them back into the game. Is FF7 friendly to that?

Or has someone already made a decent high-res texture pack?

There's so many mods for this game it's often hard to know what's what. Thanks!

It's weird to post an actual gameplay issue amongst all this technical stuff, but I was wondering: Have I forgotten how the LB system works in FFVII, or have I stumbled across a weird bug?

Basically I have L1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and 2-2. As I understand it, Cloud needs to kill 160 baddies to get 3-1. The strange thing is that, according to the Otyugh tool, Cloud has 250+ kills.

So what am I waiting for? :-/

Thanks!

Releases / [FF7PC-Steam] - XBox 360 Controller Fix (2.1)

FINAL FANTASY 7 - XBOX 360 CONTROLLER FIX
An UNOFFICIAL Mod for Final Fantasy VII (Steam) by Johnny “ThunderPeel2001” Walker

IMPORTANT NOTE: At present this mod only works with the ENGLISH Steam version of FF7. Sorry. Also note that this is an early Beta version and may contain some bugs. Please help by testing it, thanks!

What does this mod do?
The 2012 re-release of Final Fantasy VII introduced some great new features: Higher quality videos, fixed script, better music, cloud saves, achievements, etc. It also featured support for the Xbox 360 controller out of the box. Unfortunately, the way the buttons were mapped for the controller was extremely bizarre.

And worse still, it retained the confusing names for each of the buttons. Which button is "ASSIST", "TARGET", "PAGEUP", "SWITCH", etc? There are mini-games where you need to know exactly which button to press at a specific time, and it doesn't help if you don't know what button is being referred to.

THE FIRST PROBLEM

Consider the original PlayStation controller mapping:

Then look at what you get with a 360 Controller by default (seriously!):

Here's what this mod does:

Is that it? What about the button names?
NO! That's not it. Here is where this mod gets special.

First an explanation: When FFVII was being converted to the PC, they couldn’t refer to the button names, because they didn’t know what controller you would have. For example, on the original PlayStation, the game would tell you to press the “L1” button on your controller, but on the PC version it would say press “PAGEUP” – leaving you to guess which button that was.

This mod changes all references to confusing terms like “SWITCH”, “ASSIST”, “TARGET”,  “MENU”, etc. and replaces them with the names of the actual buttons on your Xbox 360 Controller.

Before mod is installed:

After mod is installed:

Every reference throughout the game has been changed, so you never have to get confused about what the game wants you to do!

Sounds good. Anything I should be aware of?
I’m glad you asked. There are only a few small caveats:

1.   At present this mod only works with the Steam version of the game. Sorry.
2.   If you’ve installed any previous mod that alters the game’s script, this will undo those changes until you uninstall it.
3.   The original PlayStation game used the old Japanese button configuration: “X” was CANCEL and “O” was OK – completely backwards to all Western games. If this was preserved, it would mean that “A” would be CANCEL and “B” would be OK. For the sake of everyone’s sanity, I’ve changed these two buttons to their normal Western configuration – “A” is OK and “B” is CANCEL.

Will this break my saves, stop me from getting achievements, etc.?
Nope. This won’t affect any of those things. It’s a very simple mod that only alters one game file: flevel.lgp

So what if I want to uninstall this mod?
Simply go to your Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs, and double click on “FF7 XBox 360 Controller Fix (Steam)”. This will return your copy of FF7 to how it was before you installed the mod.

General Discussion / FFVII 2012 Registry Keys
« on: 2013-09-16 00:03:14 »
I'm looking for a reliable way to find the installation directory of FFVII 2012. I've searched around and cannot find the SquareEnix version anywhere.

On my Steam version of the game, the installation directory can be found here:

Quote
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Steam App 39140 > InstallLocation

(Weirdly, according to http://SteamDB.info it should be found here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\square soft, inc.\final fantasy vii > AppPath
My version has no such "Square Soft, Inc." key -- I wonder if this is actually the 1998 version.)

But can anyone tell me what the equivalent is for the SquareEnix version of the game?

Thanks a lot!

General Discussion / Errors in the FF7 2012 script?
« on: 2013-09-15 19:43:04 »
Hello, first time poster. I love FF7, I hope somebody here can help me! :)

I was looking through FF7 2012's (Steam version) game script using Makou Reactor (couldn't get TouphScript to work), and I spotted the following. Is it a mistake in the script code, or is it something I don't understand? If it's a mistake, are there any other errors with the 2012 script? (Typos, etc?)

Thanks for any explanation!
