Title: [PC] Yet Another Multi-Patcher - YAMP
Post by: dziugo on 2005-12-31 00:38:59
What it is and what it does?
YAMP is a multi-patcher which can be used to apply my (dziugo's) patches to your version of FF7. By default, it'll take the ff7.exe file, make a backup of it (backup_ff7.exe) and produce the output file named ff7.exe (no need to rename anything to get those patches to work). If there already is a backup file, the ff7.exe WILL BE DELETED and the backup will be patched. If you only want some of the patches to be applied, delete/change extension/move those you don't want to use. Patches are stored in "patches\" directory and only there will be looked for. If your FF7 path is:
Code: [Select]
C:\Program Files\Final Fantasy VII\then patches should be in:
Code: [Select]
C:\Program Files\Final Fantasy VII\patches\Don't make another subdirectory there, as it will not work.

Usage:
Download YAMP and patches you want to apply, unpack them and copy to your FF7 folder.

(http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/a2.jpg) (http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/a.jpg)

Configure the patches if needed (see below) and (when done) run install.bat. If everything went good, you can launch FF7 and check how it works. If there is an error message you don't understand, post it here.

Configuration:
Each patch file (*.srb - skerb file) comes with a config file. It's name is the name of patch file, but with a different extension (.txt). Beware: If any of those files is missing, the patch won't be applied. For some patches (MGP, 9999LimitBreaking and Gypt) there is a possibility to configure some things. For example:

Changing default framerate for minigames:
Open "HighwayAndSnowboardMinigamesFix.txt" with a notepad and find the lines:
set snowboard_speed=25
set highway_speed=25
Change 25 to anything you want :) (higher = faster) Note, it's a decimal value not a hexadecimal.

(http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/b2.jpg) (http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/b.jpg)

Changing default hp/mp cap:
What about changing the damage that a monster (weapon? :D) can do to you?
Open "9999LimitBreaking.txt" with a notepad and find line:
set amount_monsterdmghp=30000
Change that 30000 to anything (well... don't use values which are greater than 30000) you want (1 is a nice value, isn't it?).

(http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/d2.jpg) (http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/d.jpg)

If there is nothing to configure, you'll see something like this:
(http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/c2.jpg) (http://ukaszu.pl/static/ff7/yamp/images/c.jpg)
Listen to your notepad, move along :P.

Basically:
If there is a line which starts with "set " and the extension of the file is *.txt it means, that it's a configurable variable.

Patches:
 - MiniGamesPatch - The very first and the most useful one... It updates the code with a simple frame limiter for the Highway, Snowboard, RollerCoaster minigames and the BattleSwirl. Will apply a little bug fix also, so the Snowboard game won't crash so often. A fix for the BattleSwirlCrash now included. Previous version can be found here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=4554.0), but I don't recommend using it - it lacks most of these fixes.
 - TransparentDialogBoxesPatch - Will make the dialog boxes transparent.
 - NoDialogBoxesPatch - Will make the dialog boxes vanish (will overwrite the TransparentDialogBoxesPatch). For those 2 patches, info here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=4923.0).
 - 9999LimitBreakingPatch - Removes the cap for HP/MP/Damage in your FF7. Normal version here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5021.0) (outdated).
 - Gypt - Allows you to skip FMVs when playing FF7. Previous version (with different approach) here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=4505.0). Readme for the YAMP version here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.msg68646#msg68646) and a little bit of explanation about how to use it here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.msg70496#msg70496).
 - LuckyTifa - Tifa will always get "Yeah!" in her limit break. Some info here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.msg68942#msg68942) and here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5298.0).
 - LuckyCaitSith - Allows you to manipulate CaitSith's TheSlotsLimitBreak. More info here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5124.msg69517#msg69517).
 - AlwaysRun - The main char will run in field by default - press and hold <CANCEL> to walk. Origins here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5506.0). discontinued (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=7022)

Nice work, keep up the good stuff.  :D

I'll have part one of a mod which should make good use of your 9999LimitBreakingPatch soon (I hope, its all rather slow to change every value). Basically each monster is asigned a new lvl and then thier stats are scaled accordinly to what their level should be. This way creatures that are already high level(e.g. tonberry / vlad) dont get changed but creatures that desperately need better stats e.g. north cave creatures get anything from 1.1 * stat to 2.5 * stat increase which is pretty significant. Unfortuantly there is a downfall in which midgar due to the fact that so many of the creatures appear there (about a quarter of them) will take much longer to get through and you will be about lvl25 i think before you get out of there.

Anyway i look forward to seeing creatures dishing out 15000 worth of fire elemental damage.

What about adding new monsters? They will share the same animation, but will have different stats (because of different record in scene.bin). No collisions that way.

I might just down them a few levels so they dont damage the players too much.

Is there anyway to manipulate the amount of damage that one character can take or give? I'm talking about teammates in this case, not monsters. For example, setting the maximim damage that can be received by Cid (or character in the 3rd position in battle mode or something like that).

Not directly. You can change the amount of damage made by mosters/chars.
Quote from: Tsukiyomi
or give
Yes, change this line
Code: [Select]
set amount_chardmghp=30000to anything you want (file: 9999LimitBreaking.txt). This will affect all chars, as there is no way to customize amount of dmg made by single char.

Hehe, your patch works very well. I finally managed to get someones savegave near the end and test out a few things.

4x cut on cloud + ultimate weapon + lots of hpplus = four hits at 30000 damage each. Not even knights of the round can match that as clouds weapon does damage equal to his hp.

KOTR max dmg = 99990

Above Max Dmg = 120000 :wicked:

I managed to kill a master tonberry with 3x its normal hp(133332) in just a few moves. It was also nice to see an iron man dish out 10000+ damage.

Unfortuanly i did notice a bug which may be caused by either your patch or the hi-res patch, after killing jenova the game crashed instantly... well not the usually type of crash, but just stalled with a black screen. It may just be a one off thing.

I'm better by far, even my youngest brother (13 ....... i think, im about 7 years older than him.) can beat him.

I used to play often on modem until everyone got dsl and left me behind. now im just not interested in those sort of game's, with the exception of the odd lan war between the family in UT2004.

Anybody can tell when my dad's playing cs because when you get within 50 feet of the house you can hear the swearing.

I kinda lost interest in CS when CS:Source came out
But someone got me playing CS1.6 again and I really want to get back into it.

I used to go excellent with the shotgun in it, i gave the game a go the other day and people still dont understand just powerful the thing is. you can even snipe with it which if funny because then every one accuses you of hacking.

Another patch added. It's a YAMP version of Gypt. See the first post in this thread for the download link.

Basic usage:

It is applied to your ff7.exe just like the other patches, and doesn't require any kind of additional program to be run after patching. It allows you to skip FMV with a combination of keys (default: Ctrl+S). If the screen is black after that, you can:
 - Enter Menu and leave it immediately
 - Use another hotkey to turn on the lights (default: Ctrl+D)

It also can be used even if you don't have TrueMotion2.0 codec installed.

Additional info:

 - I've added some NULL-pointer checking so it will not crash (hopefully ).

 - I've rewritten the Hotkey parsing a little bit so now it requires Ctrl+<Key> to be pressed simultaneously (previously you could press Ctrl, release it and then press 'Q' after some time and it still called the Quit dialog).

 - You can change the Hotkeys to anything you want (well... if Ctrl+<Key> is what you want :P). There are 3 switches in this patch which can be configured (check "GyptInstant.txt" in your "patches\" directory):
Code: [Select]
set skip=83Hotkey used to skip FMV. By default it is set to: S (so the hotkey is Ctrl+S)
Code: [Select]
set lights=68Hotkey used to trun the lights on. By default it is set to: D (hotkey: Ctrl+D)
Code: [Select]
set quit=81Hotkey used to call the Quit dialog. By default it is set to: Q (Ctrl+Q)
Check this (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/winui/winui/WindowsUserInterface/UserInput/VirtualKeyCodes.asp) if you want to change the default settings.

- As always, I've written it to be as flexible as possible, so it should work with non-english versions of FF7. If it doesn't, gimme a shout.

If it doesn't work:
It's been written for those people who suffer from CosmoCanyon-like crashes and should work. If it doesn't - try previous version of gypt (http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4505) or PM me, I'll investigate your problem.

Hey dziugo, how do you install the patch's without the transparent dialog boxes.

Also can that other patch be used to skip any FMV, because im sick of waiting for the startup movie each time i want to test something out.

Couln't you just rename something to the same one, and make it blank?
Ex: startup.mpg
new text document.txt --> startup.mpg
Not sure, I lost my CDs again....
If only I had a burner....

Yes, but it's not its real purpose :P When the FMV starts, press Ctrl+S. If the screen turns black, press Ctrl+D. Should work.

Misc patch added - LuckyTifa. See the first post in this thread for download link.

Info:

It will patch your ff7.exe so Tifa will always get "Yeah!" in her limit break. That's all.

Additional info:

Code patched at:
Code: [Select]
0x006E3778:
0xB1 0x02 0x90 0x90 0x90 0x90 0x90

0x006E31E8:

0x006E34A0:
0xB0 0x02 0x90 0x90 0x90 0x90 0x90

It can also be done by editing the data files, but I'm too lazy to do that.

Another misc patch added - LuckyCaitSith. Download it in the first post of this thread

Info:

After applying it to your ff7.exe, you get a possibility to manipulate Cait Sith's "The Slots Limit Break". How to do it?

 - (essential) - activate the limit
 - use <MENU> button to activate/deactivate cheating mode
 - use <LEFT> and <RIGHT> to navigate to the slot you wish to change
 - use <DOWN> to change the current slot

The current slot has a little white box around it (only visible in cheating mode). Entering cheating mode stops the slots and leaving cheating mode activates them again. Screen (why don't you try this combination of slots? :P):

Hmm... They are compatible with any patch that doesn't change ff7.exe (like Reunion's and NPCr) and probably compatible with those that do change it...

However, I cannot guarantee anything, so I won't put that in the main post (don't want to hear any cries "It's not compatible with my DragonBallZ mod!!! Fix it right now!!!") but I usually add lines (in the patches readme) that it has been written to be as flexible as possible when applying, so any version of ff7.exe will do. People don't read those readmies, so it's safe to do.

In "cheating mode", the slots will stop, but the game thinks that they are still running, so you have to press <OK> 4 times to activate the limit. Maybe I'll change that in a free time.
Edit: Ok, that didn't answer your question. You turn it off... Well... You don't have to :)

I've installed the Gypt patch, however, when I press Ctrl-S to skip a movie nothing happens. Is it possible this doesn't work with the intro movie, or is something else wrong? I haven't tried any other movies in the game yet.
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher

It should work with any FMV. You can check if it is installed correctly:

While in-game:
Code: [Select]
- press "Ctrl"
 - release "Ctrl"
 - press "Q"
 - release "Q"
If Gypt has been installed correctly, the "Are you sure you want..." dialog shouldn't appear. It will appear only if applying Gypt wasn't successful.

To make that window appear:
Code: [Select]
- press "Ctrl" and hold it
 - press "Q"
 - release "Q"
 - release "Ctrl"
The same goes with Ctrl+S. It has to be activated this way. Oh, and if it seems that it didn't work, press it again :) Just remember, that even if the intro movie is skipped, FF7 still waits for <OK> button to be pressed - after skipping 2 FMVs, it'll display credits.

If it still doesn't work and reading debug info (debug.txt in your FF7 main directory) doesn't help with discovering what the problem is, email/PM me - I'll try to help.

My bad, it works just like you said. Thanks! :D Only thing is, the Eidos & Square movies are set to fade out when you hit a button, so I still have to let them play in order to get to the opening credits.

so how do you create patches for YAMP anyway?

i made a small fix for ff7music users that experience delays when it's supposed to switch music in certain locations (the boss after the highway chase comes to mind, where on my box, the boss music wouldn't come on until 10-15 seconds after the battle had started)

and why create another (maybe-not-so-compatible) stand-alone patch, when we have an excellent automated system for applying these kind of things already  :-)

If i recall you did a beta test for a custom framerate patch for the minigames and battleswirl (along with fixing the battle swirl crash).
I can see the first post contains the fix but i'm not sure if it includes custom framerate patching.

Anyway, i was one of your testers and it worked flawlessly from memory :) Love your work dziugo

In my short time here, dziugo has been helpful time and time again.

Thank you for bumping this thread. I never experienced the battle swirl crash until I started using the Saint's 1280 patch. And even then, it was only after (and even then, not always) I alt+tabbed out of the game and back in. I was just going about not leaving the game. Now I can. Plus the skip FMV patch is a miracle worker. My biggest complaint about replaying FF7 is that long plot points and FMV's must be allowed to play out. Now if only there was a way to skip the major plot points, like Cloud's flashback in Kalm and such. Oh, and the always run patch is useful too. I'm sure they all are, but I won't be using the slots or 9999 patches.

I have a question about Gypt though. I wanted to see if it had worked, so I chose new game and sought to use it to skip the beginning movie. When I press
Code: [Select]
press CTRL
press S
release S
release CTRL
the FMV is skipped, but the screen is black. I hear the train's steam end, and I can hear Biggs and Jessie attacking the guards as well as Cloud flipping off of the train. Then a window pops up with Barret instructing you to come along. Then I press up and can hear myself enter the battle. But at no point am I seeing anything but black.

If however, I press
Code: [Select]
press CTRL
press S
release CTRL
release S
(nothing happens)
press CTRL
press S
release S
release CTRL
the FMV is skipped and I can see everything. In both instances, the climactic background music doesn't play, but that's fine by me if it means being able to skip the two minute new game movie. Is this how it was meant to operate and I just didn't read the explanation properly? Or is there a way to do it the first way and restore my video? Or do I just need to keep doing it the second way as it gets the job done.

And I must give further credit for how well though out this is. I didn't apply the always run patch at first and I had changed my mind about the swirl fram rate. I wasn't sure how it would operate when I asked it to patch again, but it restored the backup and started fresh. Very clever. I appreciate your work with this.

[EDIT]
Forgot to mention a couple things. Even though the background music isn't playing if I skip the new game movie, it plays after the first battle is over.

The other thing is that if I use the first method mentioned above to skip the next FMV (the one where Cloud looks up to the reactor), everything works fine. But that FMV fades out and the game fades back in anyways. So the "problem" I experience in the first example might only effect FMV's that are meant to play into a playable field map. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any. Furthermore, when I use the first version to skip the new game movie and the screen is black, as soon as Cloud is controllable, bringing up the menu and then returning to the game restores the visuals. So it's not really an issue at all. I was just wondering if maybe I had done something wrong.

@Wuz: Yup, it's that version. Thanks for testing and the support :)

@Demarest: Try Ctrl+D when the screen turns black after skipping the FMV.
Works great! Is that a feature of one of the patches, or a command that works in the EXE by default? Either way, thanks for sharing.

I came upon a very surprising and WELCOME side effect of Gypt. Remember above when I said I wish there was a way to bypass plot points? Well as a goof, I hit CTRL+S when I entered Corel's ropeway station. The game went into what appeared to be 2x mode which made the motions of Barret's flashback to the story of Corel over with twice as fast! Thankfully, the FMV's of the ropeway reset this condition. I turned it on again and the next plot point did NOT reset it. Battles and menus run regular speed, but anything taking place on the field map is double speed. This is useful for "fast forwarding" through storyline non-FMV "cutscenes" (though you still have to hit okay to get past each speaking part), but not so useful for manuevering about the field maps.

So two questions: Is this intentional? Or just a handy side effect of trying to use Gypt when an FMV isn't playing? Secondly, is there a way to revert back to normal speed so that we could use that feature to fast forward through plot points, but restore regular speed when playing the game? For now, saving and reloading resets the speed and at least on the way to Gold Saucer, the actual FMV being skipped also seemed to reset it.
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher
Post by: dziugo on 2007-04-26 14:50:37
Ctrl+D is a feature of Gypt of course :P And the speed-up is actually a side-effect of skipping the FMV. I told it before (in this thread probably) and I will say it again - I will not "fix" it.

When the FMV is playing, it takes care of the framerate, so the field one is turned off. If there is no FMV playing, there is no framelimiting -> it runs as fast as it can. Anything that enables its own frame-limiter should restore the normal speed. Accessing menu could be the easiest one (if it works of course).
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher
Post by: Demarest on 2007-04-26 15:30:08
I wouldn't want it fixed anyways. It's too useful. A way to toggle it off is all I was curious about. Not able to turn it off is far better than not having the ability to zip through the plot points. The menus work at normal speed, but going in and out of it doesn't resolve the speed on the field maps.

No biggie. Just wanted the greatest understanding of what it was I was messing with. Thanks again for your efforts on these :)

MOD EDIT: How do I double post three hours later?

Just wanted to report to anybody using Gypt: Do not use it to pass the two FMV's that play in Bugenhagen's machine the first time you reach Cosom Canyon. If you skip either one, the game will never resume. I imagine this could be because both FMV's as they play out in the game require the characters on the foreground.

MOD EDIT: How do I shot we... triple post?

Got another update if that's okay. My theory about people being in the foreground cannot be correct because the FMV with the Tiny Bronco taking off just after fighting Palmer can be skipped without issue.

I did find another FMV people will want to avoid skipping as it will prevent the game from resuming: The THIRD FMV during the Gold Saucer date sequence. The first, second, and fourth ones can all be skipped without issue. But the third results in the same as before: The game never properly resumes.

And one last conflict your users should be aware of: Having the Always Run patch installed will prevent you from manually controlling the clock in the Temple of Ancients. This is no big deal as there is a place to save just before this room. Which you can also use once you've done everything you want there and are ready to proceed. Users of Always Run will have to repatch without it just before this room. Easy workaround.

I assure you that I'm chiming in for the sake of documentation. The rewards still far outweigh the minor inconveniences and it's been a real treat being able to play with these advantages :)

MOD EDIT: Rules (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=5834.0), Buster. They apply to you too. And since you seem to think that you are all that, I'd suggest following them. Might be somewhat awkward to claim imaginary moral high ground while mods are cleaning up after you.

Uh, I don't know how exactly you mean "prevent" since I did not try that patch but cannot that be easily solved by holding <CANCEL> to walk?
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher
Post by: B Tizo on 2007-04-28 10:28:38
No, he's right.  That section took much longer than it should have because I had to do the random spin and try and time it right.  It probably took me a good 15-20 minutes of just spinning and stopping.  But, having to not hold the Cancel button the rest of the 30 odd hours I've put into FF7 so far definitely outweighs those 15-20 minutes.  dziugo's patches have worked wonders for my copy of FF7.

On a side note, I think post needs to Stickied because of all the great patches it contains.  Or perhaps a sticky needs to be created with all the patches in the forum.  Well, maybe not all, but definitely the important ones.  Just my thoughts.

I THINK so. See, I also had a problem when it came time for Cloud to draw his sword against Aeris. He sat there shaking his head as if Cancel was being pressed. When I DID press Cancel, he stopped and I was able to continue. It was at that time that I realized that you MIGHT be able to hold Cancel to do the clock as well. But I didn't try that. At the time, I didn't suppose the patch told the PC Cancel was being pressed. I assumed it toggled the walk/run mode only.

If not, I think saving, unpatching, visiting the rooms you need, setting the clock to six, saving, then repatching is faster than trusting random spins.

Another correction I need to make: dziugo said that going into a menu should reset the frame limiter and I said that it didn't. Well I've since discovered that alt+tabbing out of the game and back in does. So now it's fully controllable :)

[EDIT]
Earlier this morning, I went through the Temple of Ancients. Telling the clock I wanted to manually adjust it and immediately holding Cancel DID allow me to manipulate it just fine. Thought I'd report back.

[EDIT2]
Gypt users will also want to avoid using it to skip the very first video of Weapon attacking when Tifa and Barret are prisoners back at Junon. And getting Tifa to free herself with Always Run wasn't easy, but it was possible.

Hey dziugo, great work you did with this patch. The transparent dialog boxes look very cool  8-) .

But it seems to me, that I have a problem with the minigames-fix.

I stored everything I wanted to install in the patches directory and applied it. The patch seemed to work well (otherwise I wouldn't see any transparent windows, wouldn't I?).
But the framelimiter for the rollercoaster minigame does not work, i guess.
After changing the value rollercoaster_speed to 10 and installing the patch again, there was no noticeable change in speed.
What might be wrong? Please help me with this.

I'm also having trouble running the patcher, and I think it's because I'm running winME and it doesn't seem to support some of the dosshell command features.  I did increase the initial environment memory of install.bat to 4096, which allowed the batch file to run all of the SET commands, but the first FOR command of the patching_loop returns a "bad command or file name" and the next few lines all try to find the file "%~nk".  Not surprisingly, it dumps me out with the "Missing config file" error message.  I'm not terribly skilled with DOS command line editing, but if there's an easy fix I can edit in, that'd be great.  Or if that's not an option, perhaps I could get some manual instructions for installing these patches (most importantly, the mini-games/battleswirl patch)?  Thanks in advance.

Usage:
Code: [Select]
skerb.ex_ -patch HighwayAndSnowboardMinigamesFix.srb -in ff7.exe -out new_ff7.exe -fulldebug 1 -nopause -bswirl 30 -snowboard 60 -highway 30 -rcoaster 30Only first 3 switches are vital. With the fulldebug turned on, you may want to redirect the std output to a file.

I don't remember why I renamed an *.exe to *.ex_, but if it still doesn't work, you can try changing the extension to the correct one.

Hey you,

I still don't have any idea why the minigamespatcher isn't working, but I'm getting used to live with that.
If there wouldn't be the infamous snowboard-minigame crash. I've tried many things advised all over the internet, but I'm not able to find a solution for that crash. And since I read that it is a pointer problem (dziugo wrote that in a thread I found on this board) I quit finding a solution for that crash.

So, is it possible, that I can send my savegame file to anyone who then plays the snowboardgame for me? I would be very thankful about your help and I don't know what else to do.

Greetingz, PiJ.

PS: Next time I play this game, I think I will take my PSX version of it and play it on an emulator ;) .

You can try older version of the MGP (the one with patcher and the patch integrated in one executable). Details here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=4554.0).

I'm sorry I can't be too much of a help, but it's difficult to debug the exe, not being able to run it - even if it's "optimized" the way FF7 is.

Hey dziugo,

I tried that before, too. But unfortunately without any success. Again, I have no idea why.
Right now I think I might find a way to "skip" the snowboard-game with the help of a savegame-editor I found.

After a little experimentation I managed to place Cloud right behind the village, where he only has to go down the mountain u normally would ride down on the snowboard. After entering the icehills follows the dialog where the three decide to go on, before it's getting too cold. And then Cloud "disappears" and I can't go on, although the worldmap, the map of the iceregion and the menu are still available. I guess by changing the savegame with an external tool something might be wrong, hopefully I am able to find a solution for that problem.

Besides: Is it OK to continue the whole problem in this thread or would it be better to start another one?

That older patch won't make any changes when it finds at least one problem with ff7.exe, and patching it with YAMP version of MGP will make some changes. You might want to revert to clean 1.02 ff7.exe (even without the jedwin's chocobo patch), and give it a go. If there are any problems with applying the patch, copy the output of the patcher and send me an email along with your copy of ff7.exe.

Just as a heads up, i just found out that this patcher has issues with winXp's latest updates. If you want to apply all patches at the same time you need to set the install.bat file to win95 compatibility mode otherwise it gets a error when applying the mgp patch.
Can anyone else confirm this info?
Myself the patch seem to work well, even with latest Windows XP updates installed...
"HighwayAndSnowboardMinigamesFix - Patching done"

I haven't tested in-game results, though.

Ok i redownloaded the tifa patch and still didn't work, so i reinstall the whole game then reinstall the patch and got it installed, but when i installed the chocobo before the tifa i got errors and the game didn't work, so i rereinstall everything chocobo patch first then the tifa, now everything is working fine.

I'm having trouble.  The batch file runs fine, and all the patches get installed, however it seems to corrupt my ff7.exe!

The icon changes to that generic window-thing, and when I try to run it, the error 'ff7.exe is not a valid Win32 application' appears, and when I try to move/delete it, it claims 'it is in use by another program'.

Any help? I'm running Windows XP

I can apply the transparent and swirl patches, but the minigame patch "corrupts" the FF7.exe, so I can't apply it....curious if there is any suggestions

The error only occurs if you are trying to apply more than 4 of the patches at once. I started getting the problem after updating windowsxp via the auto update, but it might also occur in earlier versions too.

The latest minimages patch includes swirl patch so if you use old swirl with new minigames the corruption is expectable. It's already there! Use only latest minigames and read carefully next time.

Still loving these. Thanks again, dziugo.

I'm curious: Why does the front page say Always Run has been discontinued? The only time it was a real problem was when Tifa is captured in Junon and you need her to get the key. I've completed it three times now with the patch installed. Not as easy, but still very doable. I can see no reason why this patch should be discontinued.

Now, for the reason I'm posting. There's a patch to control Cait Sith's slots. Any way of similarly controlling the battle square's slots? I'd like to be able to pick my handicaps to intentionally give me harsh one I can handle but avoid ones that my setup would find to be critical. I've tried watching the wheel and guessing. I've tried the tap SWITCH method of strobing it for a better idea. I can't seem to master either.

Kruci made a version of this patch which (AFAIK) runs without any problems, so I just linked to that thread.

I was going to make such a patch, but there was no need for it at the time. And now I can't do it. Sorry.

Second thought. There was a demo of FF7 which included only battle square, and that should be enough to mod it. I'll be a bit busy for the next 2 days, but after that... Can't promise anything, but I'll see what I can do.

I wasn't aware that yours had any problems. I know of the way it can "interfere" with things like doing power squats in the Wall Market gym and such. Each one is easily worked around.

Short story short:
I "lent" it and forgot (probably not) or lost it when I was moving. I played it from ISOs, and lost those too when reformatting a while ago (I can make new images, so why bother?). Yeah...

What files exactly do your patches modify?  Rather than trying to screw with Vista and figure out how to hack into all the stuff I know will only destroy my computer, I was going to simply copy the files onto a flash drive and try to apply the patches on my laptop (which runs XP).  Is it possible to just modify one or two files or should I completely copy the Final Fantasy VII folder, apply patches, then return the files to my main computer?  Is this even a feasible option?

If you have patched the game to 1.02, you might have to copy that exe to desktop and use it, as when I patched it, I had to do that, cos for some reason it wouldn't recognise my old exe on the desktop, it was still seeing it as 1.01 I suppose :-(
Stupid how this game is so ocmplicated to work on a pc, yet worth every second when it does :-D
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher

Thanks for the reply but I'm confused.  Are you saying it has to be patched to the 1.01 version or the 1.02 version?  Also I think the only exe I have is the 1.02 as its already been patched... so if 1.02 is the one I need then its got to be something else.

Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher
Post by: *:.Griever.:* on 2008-04-06 20:27:11
You have an exe in you're ff7 program file right?
If so, copy that one to desktop, if you don't have one in there either, you could always download an exe from gameburnworld or something.
If you're already patched to 1.02 though, just check your program file folder to see if there's an exe in there first.

Can't find ff7.exe? Try changing the name to lowercase, ensure that the program runs with privileges to read/write in current directory (mostly for Vista) and delete backup_ff7.exe if you find one.

First, I'd try the unpatched version, and then apply them one by one to determine which patch is causing the crash.

Well, it says in the readme to save & exit as soon as possible after using gypt. Not that I see any reason to use it more than once and causing the game to crash (most likely due to Alt-Tabbing out of the game).

dziugo,

I believe I have incurred in one more bug with the 9999LB modification: if you try casting a restorative spell (ex. Cure) on a character with more than 9999 Hit Points, you will see that the HP number graphic is seriously corrupted.

The problem is somehow similar to the one reported before. This time though instead of displaying the limit number, it just displays corrupted graphic.

Thought you'd want to know...

So... first off i shall state, for the record, that i am so appallingly new to all of this that virtually anything i ask will probably seem terribly infantile. :-D

Having issued the above attempt at a disclaimer, my question:

I am using windows XP, and have recently discovered the joys of old ps1 games translated onto pc!
I have also just realized that patches and mods exist for said games!

I was wanting to start with something very very simple, the Tifa patch, and read your readme's on the subject... my problem is that i am unable to locate
a file by the name of install.bat anywhere in the FF7 program directory. I have read this entire thread and have come to the conclusion that everyone else
here is far beyond my current level on non-existent knowledge, and have therefore found no help.

So i ask directly if you could explain it to me in idiot-boy terms... much thanks and apologies for being so incredibly naive!!

hmm.. also i downloaded the ultima version of ff7.. could this be why? :?

[EDIT] also, can these patches be applied to a game already in progress, if one has a copy of the save file? again, much thanks in advance dziugo!!

i dont know very much about this kinda stuff but i can tell you that you will have more problems and adding mods/patches will be more difficult for the downloaded illegal ultima version rather than going out and buying the game legitimately.

i had ultima for 3 days and after seeing all the mods/patches on this site i went and grabbed my phonebook and called about 25 different stores till i eventually found a perfect condition copy of the pc version of ff7,  cost me 50 bucks tho!

trust me its worth it to go and get your own legit copy.  i did and then installed the phoenix rejuvanation patch along with the high res patch and hays reaonable difficulty patch.  its like a remake its so much different than vanilla ff7!

Just for you, a quote from the first post:
Usage:
Download YAMP and patches you want to apply, unpack them and copy to your FF7 folder.
Links are in the first post. If you're thinking of downloading YAMP from some torrent, I'm 99% certain that it will be an outdated version, so download it from the first post in this thread.

Yes.

many apologies yet again.. perhaps i really truly do not understand!

i downloaded the patches i wanted (tifa and 9999) from the links in the first post. i unpacked them and copied the files (patches) into my ff7 directory folder.

so far nothing has happened.. forgive my insistance, but there was a next step, correct?

to quote: "Configure the patches if needed (see below) and (when done) run install.bat"

nowhere under my ff7 directory is there anything called install.bat! could it perchance be called something else? what or how do i run it?

i'm deeply sorry for my crashing ignorance, but i really really want to try out these mods!! :-D i appreciate you taking any of your time with me!!!

[edit] i get it, i get it! i'm so-o-o sorry! i failed to understand that the patches and YAMP were in fact 2 seperate things... geez! i told you i was dumb about these kinda things!
 ALL, please forgive! sorry to have wasted your posting space.. everything works just fine! (what a dork huh?!?) :-D

Well, I already changed the folder so that it is no longer read only. For some reason, it still says "access is denied", but I'm pretty sure I allowed it access to run whatever it needed to.

It didn't have the Hi-res patch applied. I'll try again without the patch and with it to see if it works. Honestly, I'm not that worried about the 1.02 version. It runs fine most of the time (with the exception of highly annoying completely random crashes). I was just asking if v1.02 was necessary to use the YAMP.

Also, since I don't want to make another thread for a little problem, do you have any idea why my game could be crashing? When I first started playing, the only time it crashed was after I beat Yuffie in a battle, and I found the solution to that one. Now that I'm on disk 3 (game disk 2), it crashes at seemingly random times: End of battles, when entering a new screen, etc. Any idea why?

>.< Okay. I ran it as administrator, and it worked just fine. That's strange. When I uncheck the "read only" attribute and it applies it, something causes all the files and folders to revert to read-only status whenever I enter a new folder. Oh well, it worked. Thank you very much :)

Hello,

I am also having the "Missing File: ff7.exe" error when I attempt to run install.bat. I am running Vista x64. I have the patches folder, install.bat, skerb.ex_ and a clean 1.02 version of ff7.exe in the Final Fantasy 7 folder. The folder and its contents do not have read-only status enabled. I right-click install.bat and "Run as administrator," and I receive the missing file error. Since this is vista, ff7.exe only shows up as "ff7." i have changed the display name to "ff7.exe" just in case, and i again receive the missing file error. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

thanks

No idea if that's related but another user mentionned that Vista creates a "virtual directory" from program files so you're most likely running the app from there if you chose the default install path.

the correct path for the "virtual directory" was found under c:/user/... if I'm not mistaken.
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher
Post by: 0graham0 on 2008-08-23 15:28:03
Thanks for the tips, but still no luck. I've checked and re-checked the file-name, and i am not aware of any virtual directories.

I've navigated to the install folder in command prompt (C:\Program Files (x86)\Final Fantasy VII\) and listed the directory contents (see screenshot below). ff7.exe shows up. I thought that maybe the (x86) in the directory path was throwing things off, so I moved the entire Final Fantasy VII to the root of the C drive. I try to run install.bat again, and still I get the missing file error.

Any other ideas about what may be going wrong?

Can't check with Vista x64, but seeing that you know how to use the command prompt, I'd suggest to try and apply the patches by hand:
 - Rename the skerb.ex_ to skerb.exe (not really needed, but just in case...)
 - For each patch file, write in command prompt:
Code: [Select]
skerb.exe -patch patches\PatchName.srb -in ff7.exe -out ff7.exe
If that doesn't work either, then can't help you. No way I could test it in 64bit environment.

Thanks dziugo, manually entering from the command prompt seems to do the trick. Well, to be honest, I don't have the time to run the game right now, but when I run the patches manually I don't receive an error message. I will let you all know whether the patches applied properly as soon as I have the chance to run ff7. Thanks again!

My theory about people being in the foreground cannot be correct because the FMV with the Tiny Bronco taking off just after fighting Palmer can be skipped without issue.

so if this patch fails to alleviate problems with the bugenhagen FMV, what solutions are out there?

Hey I'm having the same problem as Ograham under the same circumstances.  Can anyone tell me what I should do to manually instal the patches I want?  I only want Gypt, Minigame, and Transparent.  I know the command prompt method hasn't been confirmed, which is why I figured I'd try it.  Problem is I'm pretty clueless with command prompt.

When I use your patch installer, I get this:

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/1949/34269325.png

The patches I want, and placed in my patches folder are as follows:

9999LimitBreaking

TransparentDialogBoxes

HighwayAndSnowboardMinigamesFix

GyptInstant

I don't want the cheat mods that allow instant winds with Cait Sith / Tifa.

From what I read, Gypt Instant allows me to skip movies, so I should be able to skip the intro movie by pressing ctrl+s, which did not work. I tried using the installer, but it ran into a problem (look at image). My exe is ver.102 , if you needed to know.

The hand mod did work, but none of the others did unfortunately.

Sorry about that, it appears I just forgot another file, never mind.

PS: The SaiNt's High Res FF7PC Patch would not work either, even though i have ver 1.02 exe

Ok so I get the access denied stuff that has happened to others in the past but this time it is different.

I am on Vista Ultimate 64-bit and I cannot check the "Run as Administrator", it is grayed out.

I am not familiar with command prompt or how to install these patches manually with it. As was done by another user from this thread.

I only want to use the "Transparent Dialog Box" and the "FPS Limiter" patches.

Is there a way anyone can give me a step by step instruction on how to manually install these?

What I do know is, is how to open the cmd screen. The only thing on it when I first open it is "C:\Users\James>"  James is my name btw.

And the game is installed to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII"

Where do I go from there? Any help would be much appreciated.

If I do this will do you think it will work?
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher

Disabled UAC might explain why it's greyed out.

As for the solution, run it from the non-protected directory - copy the ff7.exe and all the YAMP files to (for example) "D:\YAMP" and run it from there. Also, check if ff7.exe isn't write-protected (it usually is).

@dziugo

I use GYPT and works very well. My suggestion is that can you make GYPT or a version of it not require you to press CTRL+D to turn the lights on.
CTRL+D works fine and I even tried pressing it even when there's no Blackout. So those who doesn't know that you still have to press CTRL+D won't need to be told.
Since it doesn't affect the game anyway. It will seem more like a No more lights out fix. :-D

After researching quite a little I've finally found an Always Run patch so Final Fantasy VII is not so frustrating when running around.
Tho this patch has a problem when, for example trying to sneak from Aeris house.

So is there no way to make it work differently? Like instead of inverting the whole thing (space pressed to walk) isn't it possible to make it work like a toggle? Press once to walk, press it again to run?
Title: Re: Yet Another Multi-Patcher
Post by: dziugo on 2009-12-30 07:02:47
Yeah, a toggle is possible, but the core of the patch must be done correctly (and tested thoroughly) first. The "always-run-mode" would have to be disabled before certain events otherwise, and if it's to done manually, it would still be annoying. Thanks for the idea though!

It seems (that without _any_ other patches) that it just doesn't work consistently.
I have to press Ctrl+S about 30 times before it even does anything, why would this be?

Death Force grants immunity to sudden death spells (one time), but I have sucessfully died from many death spells even under Death Force protection (mostly from death Sentence since it has bigger chances compare to instant death spell). It is really weird and annyoing since I remember that DF Eskill worked perfect on PS1 version of the game, played it few times and do not remember such bug.

The bike game runs at the desired FPS, whatever I patch, but the rollercoaster ignores it for some reason. Disabling / enabling the framelimiter / vsync of ali's driver / my GPU bears no difference at all

So I know the latest message in this topic is 4 years old, but the topic itself is 12 years old so since my question is related to it, I thought I could ask it here anyway, I hope I’m not wrong.

So basically, since we never get to deal negative damage (since the game handles healing with a flag) and since we never get to have negative HP/MP either, I was wondering why we were capped at 32767 HP/MP/Damage with dziugo’s 9999 Limit Breaking mod, and not 65535 ?

Thanks for answering! :)
Title: Re: [FF7] Yet Another Multi-Patcher - YAMP
Post by: hay on 2018-01-23 08:14:38
Since dziugo is an immortal legend, this is not considered necromancy.

I'm gonna blame it on 16 bit signed integer which caps at 32k. It might work if you convert it to unsigned(if using disassembled C) or you'd have to scan for asm instructions which deal with it and change them(if plowing raw asm). It's managable and can come in flavors. If you feel hardcore enough, slap it with 8 bytes instead, rearrange sh!tload of other things and try to deal No Man's Sky of damage.
Title: Re: [FF7] Yet Another Multi-Patcher - YAMP
Post by: samourai23 on 2018-01-23 08:32:43
But there’s something I don’t understand : dziugo made it so that it’s normally capped at 30000, but we can change it to whatever we want ! For example, for damages, we can go up to 262144, then it does the overflow glitch.

The only thing is it shows messed up numbers. So since the damage can indeed be applied, can’t we just make them show what they are actually doing ? So that if you deal 45718 damage, you see 45718 and not mis91;”1 or something weird like that ?
Title: Re: [FF7] Yet Another Multi-Patcher - YAMP
Post by: DLPB_ on 2018-01-23 09:06:08
Yes, you can.  But it will take a great deal of work to recode it in assembly - which is why no-one has bothered. Not to mention damage is just a number... it's irrelevant to good gameplay.

You'd need higher level abstraction then. I'm not sure if there's a tool which wraps around low level assembly using object oriented language in comprehensive manner, though I've seen it done for other games like HoMM3. Would be super sweet though.

I'm having issues trying to get several of these patches to work.  I have the patches I want in the "Patches" folder and I have the install.bat and the skerb.ex_ in the final fantasy vii folder.  When I try to run the installer, it comes up saying:

So I have no idea what I need to do to get this to work.  I'm not sure why I'm missing the temp.bat or the other .bat files.  I did a full install and it didn't work, so I tried it again and I yield the same results.  If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it.  Thanks.

I had the same problem, but with a different patch.   You're solution was to apply the patch to the ff7.exe on a different computer and it worked.  The topic creator told us the all you need is the the patcher, the patches, and the ff7.exe.

Instead of moving it to a different computer to to patch, my solution was to just take the ff7.exe from the final fantasy folder and..

put it in a new folder on your desktop, along with the "Yamp Patcher" (instal and skerb.ex files) , add a "patches" folder WITH the patches you want inside of it.

Why does this work?  I don't know, but the patcher did not work in the final fantasy folder, once i moved it to the desktop folder it patched fine and I did not get the message that I quoted.  I'm guessing windows don't like to edit the files around the programs files area.

I made this account to tell people this because I was having trouble with the patch and wanted to help some one else.  Now that I got the patch installed, magic defense on armor works now.  (MDef  on armor fix)  Thanks for the help/patches, have a nice day and see you guys on Runescape   OS

I can't seem to get this to work with 7th Heaven v2.0.3.406.  Game version wise I'm using the original install discs and the 1.02 patch.  Trying to use the 9999LB patch.  The patch says it's successful and if I run the game directly using ff7.exe, the values change as expected.  But if I run it via the play button in 7th Heaven, even if I select Play without mods, it reverts the HP and MP values to default.  I tried removing the 7H2.0-BACKUP folder (thinking maybe it was pulling a copy of the pre patched EXE from there, especially since I noticed that if I run it via 7th Heaven then run direct from EXE the values are still reverted to default until I run the patch again) but that didn't change the behavior.

7H won't accept edits to the original EXE. It's not safe and breaks things. Instead, run your patch, then rename your ff7.exe to something like ff7_mycustom.exe. Then open Settings>General Settings, and point the ff7 exe to the new exe you want to use.

Can you use this same trick of renaming the .exe file with a difficulty mod like new threat? From what I understand new threat is specifically looking for an ff7.exe so I could try looking in the new threat files to change which .exe file to look at or will that just start a rabbit hole of broken things?

I cant get 9999LB to work no matter how hard i try, I've changed the name of the EXE ( a copy ) and put that exact name into the patcher, (replaced the name in the notepad on main file) and it's still not working, i've even tried locating the game exe with 7th heaven :/
