Yes. However, Steam achievements are simply a bunch of things you get anyway while playing. Cloud saving wasn't present in 1998 and the character booster is a much less versatile way to hack your savegame, Black Chocobo is miles better.

The increase for newer hardware/OS is provided by Aali's custom graphic drivers, which is installed with Bootleg.

Here are the advantages of having the game ran through Steam and not stand-alone:

- Cloud saving
- Nothing

I am fairly sure you can manage to live without cloud saves (that are limited to 3 computers at any time!).

Oh, I certainly can. In fact, I have more problems with the cloud saving feature than anything. I've had to stare at my screen for a good 10-15 minutes at times waiting for it to try to download from the cloud, and fail to do it. Definitely not helpful when you need to rush to save because something came up IRL. You've answered my questions though so, thank you!

I'm going to go ahead and sum what Steam users should do to mod the game:

You need to copy (or move) the game contents into another, non-system folder like C:\Games\FF7 to be able to mod it. I got 6 help requests email regarding Bootleg in the last 24 hours, 4 of them were because the game was installed in the Steam folder still.

You honestly lose nothing by downgrading the game. Downgrading is simply moving/copying it into another folder.

I reply to all the help requests mails I get to the best of my knowledge.

~Vgr

Dont you lose the ability to gain steam achievements, use cloud saving, and use the booster instead of hacking a savefile?

And what about the supposed increase for newer hardware/OS's and the extra filtering option? Is any of this affected at all?

Ultimately I'm going to try this mod setup as it's intended to be setup, but I'm trying to understand the hows and whys of the above questions.

I'm interested in knowing if this project will attempt to preserve the new wrapper on the Steam version, in the future? I assume the main reason why this is setup to "downgrade" is because of when this program was made, but I admit my knowledge is limited at best.

As a side question, do these 'updates' that SE seems to be enjoying make it easier, harder, or have no effect on the progress of the project?

Q-Gears / Potential Plugin?
« on: 2007-06-29 12:33:46 »
I had an idea recently while thinking about Q-Gears. Now, technicly if  I remember correctly, this is an emulation of the original emulation and without using any original work this makes it legal. With that being said... I wonder about the legalities of a seperate yet pluginable program that could utilize the FF7:AC soundtrack. Now I know there's some programs that toy with this already, but I haven't found one that does it easily. If i'm correct, making a backup of a soundtrack and utilizing it for personal use is completely legal. Now that being said, if the program also relied on the disc that should also add credibility to the program and would be a nice boost to what Q-Gears can do.

No, I am not asking the Q-Gears staff to do a thing. Rather i'm asking what the thoughts would be if another took up doing this said program once Q-Gears hits some stable beta releases. (I know this is extremely far off, and i'm -still- trying to learn the programming languages behind it to help. *9,000 years later*)

Thoughts?

"Measure twice, cut once." A precaution, however stupid it may seem is good. That may just be me, but regardless of flexibility, if it can be more efficient in the end as to getting things to run properly i'd use it.

But i'm just a spectator.  8-)

Yeah, the walkmesh is what I ment. Regardless, it's really good. The elevator for example seems PERFECT with the walkmesh. It's very nicely done. This seems to be a major step in the development of Q-Gears, and i'm all over being a fan.  Yes, it's true, I like to look at pretty graphics rather then the code, but this is great none the less. Keep up the good work! I'll keep bouncing some FF7 fans to these forums, maybe a few will actualy know something and offer help.  :-o

*claps* Very well done, now we have some graphics to have fun with eh? ^_^ The only thing I noticed that doesn't seem to be working correctly is the density of certain areas. Regardless, this must have not been easy ey? *huggles the 0.09 version*

I actualy have a question for you. In the end of all plans, are you going to be changing on how certain systems work? For instance, the battle systems lighting effect VS the overworld and such? I'm just wondering since I have noticed some people complain about such systems, lol. It may be too early for this question but eh, my curiosity gets the best of me. -_-

Edit: "No, as it stands right now" is the first thing in that area. Things change in time, hence why I asked, and I mean EVER. Not at the end of this project, but the end of all plans. >_> I mean, that document talks more about the PS version then the PC, and look what we have here.

Edit 2: Okay, apparently then enhancements will never, ever, be done. It seems that way from the replys.

Edit 3: The rules here are WAY to restrictive. You wont be seeing me too often for that reason, it feels like someone is on a power trip.

Businesses run in a very person VS person fashion. If you have to step on someone, even if it be an entire company to get you farther in life then do it! Now if you have a very annoying concious... your stuck. But people don't get rich by handing out money to everyone! And so the saying goes, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Take the opportunities at hand before they aren't there anymore. This is my overall opinion.  :-)

I ment for something as small as your tests not opening up in certain OS's/Configurations and that stuff. Every bit of information can be important to the final product in the long (depending on your sense of long) run. I find it better to learn about an issue earlier rather then later. Am I wrong on any of this?  :?

Akari pwnz  Another great fix for the Q-Gears project. I feel Q-Gears 1.0 being in the midst of fog. :) I'm learning the basic HELLO WORLD C++ thing so, maybe -eventualy- I can help with the project. lol.

(P.S. [PLEASE] STOP DELETING MY IMPORTANT POSTS!)

### MOD COMMENT ###
It's my job to decide what's important. If you have noticed from the mutiple stickies, some of our rules here are a bit "tighter" than your typical BBS. I just ask you use common sense when you post and don't rise the ire of the mods. We are quick to anger. Because you are new, I have shown tolerance. I simply ask to play nice, and engage the brain a little. That's all.

I corrected your last sentence up there in green. I would appreciate it, however, that you didn't tell me how to do my job. It's getting really annoying....
-halkun

Edit: Forgive me, i'm just a mod on several forums and a game designer. I'm nothing important and my topics on critical things don't matter. I don't mean to be rude but that's exactly how it looks to me. Do what you want with the messege, I can't stop an mod from doing something.

Q-Gears / Re: Help with the Q-gears website.
« on: 2006-10-09 01:56:59 »
Well, here are my ideas for the Q-Gears website. If you guys/girls (dunno, and i'm not checkin!) can do it really good by all means, shoot for it. I'm trying to compact this as much as possible!

(Navigation) -=News=- -=Forums=- -=Screenshots=- -=Downloads=- -=Links=- -=Support=- -=Contacts=-
(News) The basic first page the the RSS feeds and such.
(Forums) Need I say more?
(Screenshots) For the behind the scenes look at what you are not downloading :P
(Downloads) All Q-Gears versions [That are available] or only the latest.
(Links) Links to other FF7 material or other things but categorized
(Support) MySQL database using a Tech Support feature that submits 'support tickets' straight to a singular e-mail for checking. I'd do the checking if you want, I sooo have nothing better to do and I can make sure only important bug reports will get through.
(Contacts) The Q-Gears staffs e-mails and such.

I was also thinking of getting a nice smooth interface, where if you hover your mouse over a menu item you get that FF7 'hand noise' and a little 'hand' animation :) Of course, I wanted to make a flash intro but that would require help. I can do flash, but I can't do animations very well, lol. So, any thoughts on the layout or such? Feel free to add and always have fun creating!

Q-Gears / Q-Gears Topic/Reply Restrictions
« on: 2006-10-08 14:57:15 »
Since this section is as closely related to the topic, I am posting it here. I noticed that in the read me thing it says do not complain about errors unless you are a developer or willing to put in time for the Q-Gears project. Well, I believe that errors are a VERY important step to developing an engine. If the creator does not find the error, yet someone else does it really -needs- to be reported. However, I also believe it should only be reported ONCE. Perhaps we can get a Q-Gears Bugs topic? I think that would relieve some of the much built up stress going around the forums and also encourage others to pinpoint the issue and possibly correct it. =/

If I don't have to mess with models, it's all good. lol. Though if you 100% figure things out send me a PM, I would like to still upgrade how good they look >_> such as using the Vincent model from FF7:DoC

It's official, RAM has broken into the GHZ wars! For all you overclockers, this is a must see!

DDR2 1,066MHz - http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=30976

DDR2 1,250Mhz - http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32276

DDR2 1,333MHz - http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34375

*XDR DRam 4,800Mhz (HOLY CRAP!) - http://www.stargeek.com/item/306998.html

* - Xtreme Data Rate

Notes: DDR3 will be hitting us between 2007-2008, I wonder what THOSE speeds will be like ^.^. XDR DRam is projected to hit 8,000MHz by 2000? (Not sure where in between 2006-2009 it will be). WTF kind of motherboards will support those monsters!?

Note 2: The most common ram i've seen is DDR-SDram 333 (mhz)

That makes no sense though. In the movie people had the geo-stigma which is what happened when your life force was 'tainted' with jenova's cells. I just said life force for lack of better term. Anyway, Kadaj had the jenova cells in him which is why he 'became' sephiroth in the end by takeing in a bigger piece of Jenova. The question is, if Jenova can have this effect on so many people by just tainting them and Aeris can apparently somehow slip out of the life stream and help Cloud in the fight with that big ugly monster, what else can she do?
