Note, the "Final Fantasy VII XP patch" was not released by Eidos, and it is also neither recommended nor supported on this board (see the FAQ).

Up now, ISP issues I suppose.  :-P

[Edit]
Nevermind, the DNS record for aaronserv.dyndns.org is gone.  Use aaron-kelley.net instead.  I'll look into this.

[Edit 2]
Looks like they decided to spontaneously delete my account.  Back up now.

Completely Unrelated / Re: The best linux for starters?
« on: 2007-11-02 23:56:16 »
I personally think Ubuntu is (currently) the best for a Linux beginner.

 - Pretty good hardware computability out-of-the-box.
 - Good package manager, finding/installing software is easy.
 - Installer is a "Live CD" – You can boot from the CD and run the OS without having to install it, to get an idea of how it'll work with your machine.
 - It is very popular, they have a lot of interesting "how to's" on their wiki and it is easy to find support if you need it.

It does a lot of things for you, so you don't have to worry so much about the "underlying Linux" and you are more free to just experiment with the applications and with the system itself.  You can dig into the guts of it if you want.

Just my opinion.  :-)

1. Don't post the same request multiple times.  It irritates people more than it makes them want to help you.  I have deleted some of your posts.
2. Don't post several times in a row.  If no one has replied since you last posted in a thread, use the "modify" button to edit your post instead.

Thanks.

I had a similar problem with Microsoft's softsynth on my laptop.

In my case, the problem was caused by the CPU power management.  Most laptops these days change the CPU speed based on the current load.

If you are running Windows XP, go to the Power Options control panel and set it to "Always On" (CPU will be at 100% all the time) or "Desktop" (CPU will be at 100% when on AC power and scale down when on battery power).  Which power profile you select affects the dynamic CPU speed and settings for these are not exposed.  After choosing a power profile, you can change the rest of the settings (time before display off, sleep, etc.) to your liking.

In Windows Vista, these settings are exposed.  Go to the Power Options control panel, click on "Change plan settings" for the plan you are using and then "Change advanced power settings."  Look in here for the CPU speed settings (I can't give the exact location because I'm not on my laptop) and make sure the minimum and maximum are both set to 100%.

Probably ROM hacking, there are some nice level-editing utilities out there (specifically for SMW).  :-P

Did you install the movie patch?  (See the FAQ)

Generally, this CD problem is caused by you installing the game from one CD drive and trying to run it from another.  You must put the CD in the same drive you had the install disc in when you installed the game.  (The drive letter it expects can actually be changed in the registry.)

General Discussion / Re: This is Horrible
« on: 2007-09-10 23:29:54 »
AFAIK, this patch has not really been changed since it was released.  So, yeah.

Elsewhere on the Eidos site (a little harder to find), I believe is still a direct link to the chocobo patch, hosted at www.qhimm.com.

First point in the FAQ.

Quote from: Me
First point: You shouldn't install the AnimeVamp "FF7 XP Patch" / "1.04 Patch" - here's why.  The newest patch you should be using is the 1.02 patch from Eidos.

Presumably, you are looking for a save file for FF7 or FF8, but no one can help you if you don't say which.

It's an official pirated version of the game.
Pirated / downloaded copies are not supported.  Thread closed.

Archive / Re: XG Midi
« on: 2007-08-07 17:31:20 »
While I don't think you can use it and XG MIDI at the same time (without some custom work, anyway), there is a soundfont included with FF7 that includes the vocals in "One-Winged Angel" that can be loaded if you sound card supports it.

Troubleshooting / Re: Crash in FF7 During Cutscene
« on: 2007-08-06 13:10:20 »
There is an updated codec included in the "upside-down movie patch" which you should install if you haven't yet (see the FAQ).  In fact, that's all the patch is.

If that doesn't fix it, it's possible that your disc is bad or something.  You can try moving the movies to the hard drive (also in the FAQ), and then replacing that movie with another (good) one to try to get past that point.

Otherwise, you can have someone play past that point for you like Synergy Blades suggested.

FAQs and Tutorials / Re: STICKY: FF8 Enhancing
« on: 2007-08-04 02:24:17 »
here's a question. how much work would it take to convert the FFVII high-res patch, to one that will work for FFVIII?

I know The SaiNT spent a lot of time making small changes to FF7 to get just about everything to look right and be positioned correctly in FF7 high-res.  It wouldn't be a simple "port."

« on: 2007-07-30 03:49:35 »
I think it might be talking about the regular fuzziness that appears when videos are playing...  It's silly, but normal behavior, has to do with how FF7 downsamples the movies to 16-bit color.

There's this new thread about fixing it with ffdshow.

Troubleshooting / Re: Problem with FF7betap1 >_<
« on: 2007-07-29 19:24:28 »
ff7betap1.exe is a self-extracting zip file.  It doesn't work in 64-bit version of Windows, so I extracted the contents and posted them here (the link used in the FAQ) as a regular .zip file.  Inside is the actual installer.  (Even if you aren't running a 64-bit version of Windows, this should still help with your problem.)

You can switch to software rendering in FF8config.

« on: 2007-07-24 15:34:54 »
The problem is, you didn't pay for it or acquire it in any official or semi-official means, and we don't support pirated copies.  Not to mention that many problems people have are caused by how pirated copies are packaged/modified.
