If I personally gave anyone a bad impression, I do apologize. If it's not what I want I just won't buy it - I believe speaking with my wallet is far more effective than speaking with my words in situations like this.

I mean I AM anxious about it due to being a huge '97!VII fan but I more or less said my piece and won't be bashing it or anything - Like I said, there are people that are going to love it even if I don't like it and I don't want to make them feel bad by ragging on something they like. There are unpopular things I love and it gets pretty upsetting seeing it constantly ragged on by others sometimes.

My gut has been in a very unpleasant knot ever since the announcement. Before E3, I figured it was just another rumor... but it turned out to be true this time. strawberries.

I'm hoping we get something of the overall quality of the VI remake(s, although the only one I've had more experience than screenshots with is the GBA one) just with pretty graphics and a proper translation. I enjoy the action in AC so as long as I have my turn-based battles and they limit it to cut-scenes, I'll actually be quite pleased with that... although I'll be just as fine without it. ...and honestly there ARE ways to make real time fights work and fit in with VII. It could avoid being a deal-breaker depending on how they implemented it.

Final Fantasy's two biggest competitors (in Japan) are Dragon Quest and Tales Of. Never been really into Dragon Quest, but Tales Of has huge plotlines with gorgeous worlds and a strawberries ton of voice acting (skits. Just... the skits alone). I love Tales Of. If you want traditional JRPGs in gorgeous 3D, the series is worth getting into. If they make a Final Fantasy VII that can stand up to the Tales Of franchise (which I'm a HUGE fan of its my favorite JRPG series - Tales of the Abyss is actually second/sometimes tied with VII as my favorite game EVER)...

Anyways, I'm not expecting anything but "its pretty" out of it. I have what I hope it is... but I also have what I expect it will be. If it ends up being what I hope for though... I'll buy a PS4. I will buy a PS4 for just this. In fact, I will fricking write a letter to Square-Enix of America thanking them (I'd write it to S-E of Japan but my Japanese isn't good enough for that). I will buy three copies of the damn game. I'm not kidding in the least. If this is the remake I'm hoping for I will literally buy a PS4, write a gushing letter to Square-Enix, and I will buy three copies of the game. I have the savings to do this and I will do this if I get the remake I've always wanted. I don't think my bank account's in any danger, though... But I will totally take photos and share here if it happens.

If it's what I'm expecting to be, I won't even buy one (and I'll know without buying it cause I have a friend that is going to buy it who understands my tastes, expectations, and can be trusted to report the game to me properly).

ALL THAT SAID... All my love and support for those of you that end up enjoying it. No matter how I end up feeling about it, someone is going to love it as the best thing ever, and I'm very glad for those that do. No fandom is mindless regardless of their tastes as far as I'm concerned - including the oft-harassed CoD fanbase. You like what you like. And everyone could do with more happy, regardless of the source (...unless the source is killing people, causing severe harm to oneself, or anything along that vein. Then maybe you should get help. :P )

Every digit crossed, I guess... Still stressed though.

Troubleshooting / Re: Final Fantasy VII PC-98 FMV Question

Thanks everyone! Especially you Covarr, I don't like mucking around in my registry manually if I can avoid it (I've had to do so ONCE because of a particularly stubborn/nasty virus.) :D

This can be closed now imo.

Troubleshooting / Final Fantasy VII PC-98 FMV Question
« on: 2014-08-22 19:01:45 »
I was wondering how I could go about setting it up so the movies would load off of my hard drive rather than the discs? In a way that would be compatible with the Reunion mod ( ), to be precise. The specific mods I'm using of that are Beacause, Menu Overhaul, and Model Overhaul. I've also got Anxious Heart installed. I want to have the retranslated FMVs that are part of Beacause run in-game so I need to make that adjustment.

I've got Aali's most recent driver, so no worries there, and I'm running Windows 7 on a PC.

Found an visual error that seems likely to stem from your patch, Aali.  It's two out of place red pixels at the Chocobo Ranch, I've positioned Cloud just above them so they're easier to spot.

EDIT: Oh gosh why did that quote the post above me I'm so sorry! I took care of it!  Extra apologies to you superneko!

I'm not an expert at music.  I don't generally hear major differences.  Even with this I've only heard a few (although fixing that annoying midi problem in later versions as window is honestly worth the price of admission with this thing).  But I have to say, Aerith's theme sounds SOOO much better with this.  I personally can't wait until the final battle, because One-Winged Angel was completely fail with the midi tracks.

No, I really mean to use it as a patch. It should install everything which is needed (the 1.02 ff7.exe and the FF7Config.exe)

Oh! Haha, I'll have to remember that cause it's gotten old enough (and what with Steam, considered out-dated enough) to find online.

@Covarr - Oh good, that makes me feel a lot better!  I've always admired modders actually, some of the stuff that's considered standard practice for them makes my brain go spinny.  I remember having a similar experience the first time I looked at Photoshop and now I'm so good at it I have trouble teaching it to people (I'm generally a horrible teacher overall), so I get it's definitely a study/practice thing, but wow. XD

@ - Kaldarasha Converter? I'm using the original '98 PC version, not the Steam one, assuming that's what you meant.

@Leonhart - It can be a bit tricky to find, so sure.  This is the link I used:

You have to fill out the stupid questionnaire to get the download link but it doesn't really ask you for personal details, although it probably wouldn't hurt to run a virus scan after just to be on the safe side.

Oh my gosh guys, I feel like a complete and total idiot.  I did a complete uninstall (like five times now in troubleshooting this). You know what I was doing wrong? I FORGOT TO APPLY THE UPDATE PATCH. IT WORKS GREAT NOW.

I knew it was something simple and idiotic

Thanks for all your help, guys, and I am SO SORRY my brain fart caused you problems.

Don't open the old config file (chocobo icon) after using the registry file that came with the driver. The old configuration file is outdated. If you run it, it will overwrite the registry changes from the registry file and cause the game to crash.

1. Run the old config file (chocobo icon)
2. Set your sound driver (Custom driver will NOT be available for the video)
3. Run the registry file
4. Start the game

Same results, game opens without crashing (as always - well, when I don't have any mods installed it did crash when I had Anxious Heart and Reunion applied) but the program refuses to open in windowed mode.

EDIT/UPDATE: Okay so I tried with 7.11 and it's not working now either! If anybody knows what could be causing it, do let me know, but I think it's probably some super simple idiotic thing I've done rather than anything else. OTL I'll continue messing with it, I've got a great tech friend I'll pester about it when he gets on again.

UPDATE: Welp, attempted again.  Deleted the junk in my Virtual Store folder beforehand, too.  No luck. I actually have the APP log after this failure (finally found it) if anyone think that would be useful, although I don't know what parts count as 'relevant'.

Custom Driver is STILL not coming up as an option and the window thing just won't work, no matter how many times I uninstall, remove registry files related, and install.  Highly frustrated at this point!

Yeah, I meant ff7_opengl.cfg

The thing is, by default, Windows won't let you edit anything in the Program Files folder. If you try to, it'll silently save a copy in its hidden "VirtualStore" and leave the original alone. The only problem is, the driver reads the original. If you run notepad as administrator, it'll allow you to save the real thing instead of the VirtualStore copy.

I did, and no dice. Twice as a matter of fact, although I ran Notepad as an Administrator from the Start Menu, I'll go try to find it's actual source and do so from there. I will note I didn't have these problems with the 7.11 version I was using previously.

Same results, and the changes seem to be there no matter how I open the cfg file. Feel free to suggest other fixes, I'm willing to try anything at this point.  Wondering if applying the registry changes manually would make a change, although I'd definitely have to ask Google how to go about that.

I suspect it's a UAC problem. Don't open the config file directly from Windows. Run notepad or your text editor of choice as administrator, and then open the config from there. Apply your edits as needed and save.

Long story short, it's Microsoft's fault. :P

Um well, I tried opening the config file as such and I got a ton of gibberish (for the most part, there was a handful of actual readable words)? Unless you meant the opengl thing and it just didn't do any good. I tried opening the registry editor one too, and while the words made sense I'm not sure if there's anything I can do with it.

Windowed Mode works correctly for me, but I have also inserted the correct registry keys (see above)

I'm gonna try a few more things, but in case I don't hit the right solution, mind telling me how? I double clicked and "ran" the registry key "program" after setting my stuff up in the config file, which I was pretty sure was what you needed to do?

Do forgive my noobishness, as I have a feeling it's responsible for the majority of my problems here.

Windowed Mode doesn't seem to be working for some reason.  These are the only variables I've changed, and I've run the registry files:

window_size_x = 960
window_size_y = 720
preserve_aspect = yes
fullscreen = no

EDIT: I'm not getting Custom Driver as an option in the config upon a second look, so that's probably why but I'm not sure WHY I'm not getting it.

Releases / Re: FF7Music Installer
« on: 2014-01-20 10:27:00 »
I have no clue what I'm doing wrong, but the music still cuts out right after the intro segment, in the bit where Avalanche is beating guards up (although the SFX are intact.  The only thing not working is the BGM).  I'm using Aali's 7.11b (which I presume is the most recent update?) and I moved the .exe and plugin.ini files into the ficedula folder like the readme in there said I should (not sure if I got the right .ini file, though), and I'm still having issues.

Possibly caused by an incompatibility with the Reunion mod collection, although if that's the case is there any way I can prevent the midi issues and still use the Reunion? DLPB said something along the lines of the most recent driver from Aali should prevent the music issues - if that's the case is it possible I've got something in the config set screwy? The only changes I've made to the config is turned full screen off (window size set to 960*720), the vsync is on, and the framelimiter is off.

This is installed with the installer in this thread, so there shouldn't be any associations with bootleg present.  I'm using the most up to date version of Windows 7.

PS - Do hope this is the right thread for this!

Oh, okay! ^_^ Didn't realize it was gonna be that soon. I'll probably still play at release though haha. XD

I doubt you're going to want to play the game and look at the text at the same time.. what's the point?

Also...  I've been sat here 6 hours straight now fixing things that decided to surprise me.  But it is getting released before I go to bed tonight.  I am not going to sleep until it is released :)

Yes but it would be nice to have after we watched the FMV (although I do want to be clear it totally isn't necessary I just kind of wanted it if possible. XD)

Just don't kill yourself! XD

Future update and separate due to size.

Would it be possible to release the translated dialogue so we could refer to it while we played?

Yeah the coat issue is something that comes up with a lot of characters actually. It's the limitation of rigging character models as separate pieces, they tend to move through each other sometimes. The pieces can be cut and attached to the part that's moving through them, but with Rufus for example than the bottom of his coat will move with his legs.

You see this problem from time to time in new games even now, so while it's not a bad idea to tweak, it's certainly forgivable in my opinion.

I'm sure whatever you guys finally decide on will be great, all of you guys seem to really know what you're doing (certainly far more than me as I'm mostly clueless at this point). I look forward to seeing what you end up with! :D

I could see those working, although I'd have to play a bit with them to be sure (the intro bombing mission would be plenty for me to get a feel one way or the other).

It sure is the 1st but there is gonna be a delay.  This will prob be released at some point in the next 12 hours though.  The work and testing stage is quite abnormal and I didn't expect it to be this bad.  Still...  it isn't much longer to wait, is it ;)

Good news is when I have all this in place, any future releases will be much easier.

Oh, that's fine! Don't mind my excessive stalking of the page lulz. XD
