Okay, i went to see the new prince of persia movie yesterday, and I must say, it wasnt that bad. However, I do have some beef with it and feel liek rambling it here.


so, the movie maintains a similar feel to the game, and has lots of awesome references, such as rediculous camera movements that look at where the action will take the prince (as is done in the game), as well as a joke about the prince's rediculous acrobatics. the list goes on, and i was happy to see these things there.

now to my beefs... for some reason, the prince got a useless morsel of backstory that - he is not a prince o.O he's some street orphan who ... saved his street friend frmo getting killed for stealing a fruit or something, and the king thot he was kool so he took him in. I'm not partial to the underdog story in this case, firstly cuz it is so weak and unnecessary, its mentioned numerous times, but not to further his character or the plot. the movie could've nicely done with out it (to the point i'm tempted to make an edit that just cuts out all the references, and the flashback scene... its so non-integral it would really just be a few clips here n there.

next bit  - bad guy motivation. This doesnt bother me as much, but in the game, the evil vizier guy was trying to get the sands of time so he could gain immortality and power n shit... kool beans. in the movie (although its never comfirmed by the bad guy, but everyone says its the case so we'll roll with that) he wants to go back in time and not save his brother the king so he could be king for his lifetime.... a bit... dry o.o.

The game opened and closed with a monologue about time which went something liek this " Most people think time flows fast and steady like a river, constantly in one direction, but I have seen the face of time. It is an ocean in the storm." followed by him saying something bout how he's gonna tell a great story. in the movie they have some text in the opening and the closing, again the same line beginning and end, except its some cheezy overused hollywood shit about some ppl getting connected through time cuz of destiny... or something... they should've used the original :P

CONSEQuences ... the movie haz none, but it likes to think it does! okay so, bad guy wants the sands of time so he can go back and be king - KOOL. however, doing this will unleash the wrath of the gods and cause a giant sandstorm that will destroy earth. when the bad guy gets to open the sands, the sandstorm comes... except... the characters involved do go back in time... before the sandstorm.... so effectively there is no consequence, because you just dodge the sandstorm by summoning it. in the game, you could go back in time n shit, except opening the sands tended to turn everyone who wasnt protected by sands of time artifacts to TURN INTO SAND DEMONS. NOW THATS A CONSEQUENCE!

oh yea, last thing, the prince randomly spits at the end.. wtf that and jake gilanhall or however u wirte his name, did a decent job, but he rlllly doesnt look the part ;P

One of the things on TA's todo list is to have a nice classic style upgrade of the main cast, Thus far Millenia n I made a barret, though stylistically i'd like to alter it a bit. I'll be keeping progress here as the project advances.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Ultima weapon

Could anyone explain to me how the recoloring of the ultima weapon works? as how cloud's health goes lower, the blade becomes blue.
I imagine the vertex colors are based on % of clouds hp, but I was wondering if this could somehow be applied to textures in some way? I doubt it, but i figure its worth asking.

it just me, or would a spinoff of ffx have been much more interesting if it followed braska's pilgrimage instead of yuna's angels. I know its touched upon a fair bit in FFX, but goin through the world as auron/jecht/braska i think would've been significantly more exciting.

Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Sound workings

Firstly, I know very little of programming or the following, so bear with me.

Midis, call for the soundcard to generate a given midi sound based on the track, for x duration (and some other settings i beleive) based on each track. Using this data, would it be possible to call on higher quality audio files that represent each respective sound and pitch? The thought just crossed my mind today and I was wondering how this would work. would it lag down the computer loading so many files so quickly, take up too much space to store em all, or even possible to use midi data like that? (kinda of like how ff7 music calls on mp3s, just at a micro level). If something like this were possible (i'm not even sure if it would sound good) it would at least allow for propper midi looping and cues (not sure how much ff7 uses cues).

Guys help me out with this... i'm trying to figure out what the grunt enemies are in FF7. You know the ones you fight in the bombing mission - blue guys that use beam cannon or particle beam or something like that.

ne ideas other than guys in blue spandex with claws n a gas mask?

Okay I've nearly got barret completely in game... well i do... except any gun makes him run the punch animation instead of the shooting one. ... help?

Here I will start posting all my work, as i'm somewhat tired of going a few pages back to update a slightly older model, however, those pages which i've used will be kept linked below:





Note: the Red XIII model was started by Hermoor, and I modified it to its current state


Now, for my next model!! *drumroll*

Cait Sith! - nobody uses him, nobody likes him, but alas, he's the next character we get after Red, so here we go. I have currently finished the cat portion, and the moogle body should be done fairly quickly. The legs i made somewhat split.. largely because making topology to accomodate them would be somewhat troublesome, and it would get deleted anyways when i split the model (other places like the arms keeping proper topology helps make them properly)

yes... i still call her aeris. She tends to be my least favorite of characters, with her quirky attitude and short life expectancy, but alas, i'm trying to go in order (srry aeris fans that red came first :P). A lot of it doesnt look right, but hey thats what C/c is for. Being a character i'm not that fond of, i'll have more margin for error so please correct me people!

And i know... she has no pony tail yet...

I've spoken about it before, and i finally got around to ripping out a battle scene.

epicing it out + hi resolution textures and inserting back into game is imminent.

if anyone has any reference art or conceptual art that was used for any battle scenes it'd b nice to see, as a lot of things in the scene are kind of vague and i'm not sure what everything is :P


okay before i start making a high poly model of this, i need some suggestions/ input.

the flat ground has a bajillion polies in it... n it makes me wonder if they're for something... i would've just made one flat square... cuz thats all it is. any ides on this?

in this shot we see on the edges of the main area (not the sky ring) these shadowy areas, with.. building side? windows? chunks of train? they're only in the middle of each side, and i have no idea what they are supposed to be. I'm not quite sure how they look ingame.

wait, looking closer i can tell they're walls, with a wire along the middle, but the issue is, why are they only shown in some parts, and not entirely circling the battle scene? If somebody can grab me some ingame shots it'd be great (my ff7 isnt working atm, and i dont have a psx copy onhand)

Okay! now that the barret model is more or less done (minus importing it ingame) the next character that players of FF7 will find themselves recruiting is Tifa.

Progress is going a little bit slower than i thought for her, and I'm having trouble deciding how exactly to execute her hair, right now i'm modeling it as seen in AC and the ff7 10th anniversary render


other options are something more along the style in kh2, or just like good ol ff7 (nomura artwork, with very spiked bangs)

note: I know her face looks kind of funny, its not quite done yet.

I started a custom model thread many months ago, but alas zombies are evil...

This work is largely inspired by APZ's cloud model. To continue his style and idea, I whipped up a barret model in a few hours and voila!

I know, he has two hands (its mirrored atm) and untextured... millenia may help me with that. Nor is it chopped up... i'll leave that til later.

criticism is appreciated (i'm not an expert on barret's design so any help would be great)

I was just curious if its possible to insert custom models for thte battle scenes? I havnt' noticed any mods that do this, though i have looked through all thte tools available for these files. If people could just inform me as to if its possible, and what the parameters i might need to follow are?
