Releases / Re: [FF7PC-98/Steam] New Threat Mod (v2.0.94)
« on: 2021-02-28 21:21:52 »
When going into a character's upgrade menu, you have to pick one and then use the Sources it allocates for it. As a failsafe against players that might have maxed their inventory out using a tool or save editor (or for whatever reason may not want to use certain Sources given), it does allow the player to continue out with unused Sources but will give a warning beforehand:

Mr. Smile
%u201CYou can't take 'em with you!%u201D
{CHOICE}Use remaining Sources
{CHOICE}Discard and continue

If they discard and continue, then the unallocated sources are lost permanently. The reason it's like this is because the game doesn't really have a way to check through its field script what the stats/sources used by a character are, and if Sources escape out of this menu and remain in the player's inventory then they can be allocated to different characters instead.

Also, there is no reset currently on a player's choice of Source upgrades but you can choose whichever of the 5 options each time you have an upgrade; you don't get locked into taking the same one each time.

One way to fix this is to use a save editor to go into Cloud's stats; you'll see he has 2 separate sets. One set is his 'base' stats, and the other is his Source stats; these get added together to make his final stats that you see in-game. You can reset his Source stats to 0 and then set the ones you wanted to pick manually. His Source options are:

Code: [Select]
{CHOICE}Ex-SOLDIER: Str+15{, }Mag+7{, }Vit/Dex+8
{CHOICE}Mercenary: Str/Vit/Lck+15
{CHOICE}Makonoid: Mag/Spr/Dex+15
{CHOICE}Duellist: Str/Mag/Dex/Lck+10
{CHOICE}COMMANDO: Str/Vit/Spr+12{, }Mag+6

So if you wanted to pick, say, Makonoid instead of Ex-SOLDIER you'd set his Source stats to 15 in Magic, Spirit, and Dexterity while setting the other Source stats to 0 (make sure to change the Source stats, and not his base stats). After that he'll be where he should be and you can just use the Source system in-game as normal when you get the next upgrade unlocked.

Thanks so much! Figured out how to get it working using Black Chocobo. I'll make sure to remember there's no reset. Gotta think how to get the party setup now.

Hey Sega_Chief, got a quick question. Got to Costa Del Sol, and I unlocked SP upgrading. Thing is for Cloud, I couldn't cancel out when I clicked his name. So I picked Ex-Soldier, but I didn't use any of the sources. The smiling guy said, hey you didn't use any, so I said cancel and continue. He took the sources back. But Cloud is still at level 1 of the SP chart now. I can't go back and use those sources, or pick another job class. What's going on? Did I glitch the game? Am I out of luck on using those sources?

Also, is there a way for me to reset my job classes in the game? Let me know. Thanks! Awesome mod by the way. I love the new additions.

5.24 update on first page:
-Updated FFNx for some minor ingame optimisations.
-Added help for special shortcut (speedhack, random battle...).
-Added an option to get better shadows under models in battle.
-Added an option to hide mouth from 3d model to get them like in psx version.
-Corrected a bug if the steam's ff7 account is not created properly by steam..

5.24 fixed it. Thanks!

No FFVII installation found
I found the last log file to be strange. I wonder what that one is all about. Of course I have a Final Fantasy VII installation. Huh.

Edit: Ok, so I just tried playing and now it works. What the hell?! Lol. That was weird. Yeah so the 60 fps battles are working. Even the FMV skipping works now too. I skipped the intro FMV, had a lack of music in the beginning but that's to be expected. You mentioned that the FMV skipping can be glitchy, so that's ok. I don't know what you or I did man, but thanks! I appreciate it! :D

I do have the latest Steam version, 1.0.9. So I reinstalled the game from Steam and the mod, and still the same crash. When I first installed the mod, I checked all the relevant boxes, but the 60 fps battles did not work, it defaulted to 15 fps, but the game did not crash. I reinstalled the mod, knowing that it would use the default files in the backup folder, so I didn't have to uninstall first, and this time applied the 60 fps battles. And the crash occurred again, so I'm at a loss. Well thanks again DLPB. I'll look forward to your R06 release, hopefully it'll fix the issue.

8
Hey thanks DLPB,

I am using R05c, if it makes any difference, this is the md5 of the executable: 9b45ff8d70a417d807566d9be2a88812. I understood that speed up was limited to the monitor's refresh rate. That's fine, I understand that. I wanted to also test out the slow down, that wasn't working. So I was thinking, that whole section about new limiters is not working properly. I could try to redownload R05c, from the first page, see if I get a different checksum. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, if that helps. I bought Final Fantasy VII on steam during the winter sale, about 2 weeks ago, give or take a few days.

9
Hey DLPB,

I'm having an issue with your mod, with the steam version of Final Fantasy VII. Just recently bought it, great mod by the way, and I used your mod before, once, with the retail pc version of Final Fantasy VII. Regardless, I'm having the same issue as the person that responded one page back. It's where, if the 60 fps option is checked, the game will crash. It complains about an unhandled exception occurring. I have no idea how to debug this, there doesn't some to be an error code. Music continues playing, but all I see is a black screen and the game crashes. Pressing ok to exit the dialog box for the unhandled exception, causes a generic windows error that says the application has crashed, and would you like to close it. If I uncheck the 60 fps option, everything works out great. I can't seem to find any other issues with your mod, the translation works, as do the new models. Also, the 60 fps option is a subset of the general new limiters option. None of that works either. I can't skip cutscenes with start and select and I can't slow or speed up the game with the specific button combination. I thought I should let you know, since maybe there might be others having this issue. Your mod did work great with the original pc release though. Do you have any suggestions? I appreciate any input, thanks.

IIRC, iso is byte-for-byte. bin/cue includes some of the parity information. They're both either compressed.

Huh well if that's the case, those hashes did not match what I posted on redump. I don't know if either my or that person's game was dumped incorrectly, or if its a different revision altogether. Anyone else have any hashes to compare?

here are the md5sums for the PC discs in iso format

installer:48df624df62c3fc2c6869e7090a9b276
disc1:1d724d2208c17ec10aae407b38f81311
disc2:b6b603a659b0da2fbbf57f7b6020395f
disc3:bc0d3f3ab217e96ab2d5d1bbf9a80732

all of the iso were made with k3b.

Hmm any way you could dump those in bin/cue format? I'm guessing the iso format for CDs cuts out some data where as bin and cue would be the raw image.

You've come to the right place; there's probably more people here with legitimate copies of the 1998/2000 PC versions of these games on disc than anywhere else on the internet, in multiple languages, no less.

I can't be of much help myself, as my discs have been misplaced on the order of a couple years now (I think I know where they are, but I sure as hell don't feel like digging through my garage to get to them), but I would not doubt for a moment there's people with good, usable discs that can get the hashes you need.

Hey thanks Covarr! I'm hoping someone will respond soon and submit those dumps to redump. I know it can be cumbersome, since the redump group seems to request specific information about the discs. I know I can be lazy at times in getting all that information. I recently bought this game from Ebay and I knew it would have some scratches, as the description stated so, which besides having said scratches, I didn't encounter any read errors with my dumping. I just like to have the verification that I have dumped a game correctly. I know its possible to dump incorrectly so its always good to have verification.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to make some dumps of their copy of Final Fantasy VII for the PC. I recently submitted my dump, however I was the first one to submit the original PC copy. This means I have no way to verify if my copy matches with others' dumps. Here's the link:

http://redump.org/

If you need help dumping, check this out:

http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Dumping-Guides

I thought I would ask on this forum, since it appears to center around Final Fantasy VII and VIII for the PC, so there are bound to be people here with copies of the game. Thanks for any contributions that anyone can make!
