General Discussion / Re: STICKY: FF7 Customising
« on: 2008-06-25 20:13:01 »
Hey guys, just a head's up:

My site (ff7-universe) is down indefinitely.. my host is being unreliable.  If anyone has wiki access, please remove/replace any and all links leading to ff7-u.

This has probably been going on for a while, but i was just made aware of it recently. =(

...when the f*** did i post this?  Was I drunk or stoned or something?

[edit] oh god 2004?  Thread necromancy wtf?!

53
Have you guys tried cranking up AA and AF in your video card's control panel?  How about turning them off?  Playing with other quality/performance settings?

All I know is my FF7 works great... without grid lines.  *shrugs*

54
Dziugo: Not for me.. my antivirus keeps screaming bout the rar and patcher.  But not the patched version of ff7...

*shrugs*

edit: oh, wait.. i thought you meant ff7.exe was the file being identified by the anti-virus for you, not that it's the only file that gets patched.  *headdesk*

SO i did a marathon gaming session for HL2: Episode 2 and Portal.

Wow, Portal is GREAT.  Short, but oh so very sweet.  The Orange Box game package is worth it for this game alone; very original, and refreshing.  Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2 are also pretty spiffy.

Anyone else play it yet?

56
What, no feedback?

*bump*

At the very least, could someone tell me which game files are patched so that i can pack those up and distribute them?  I'm getting tired of these e-mails...

Troubleshooting / Re: Saint's High Res Patch Help
« on: 2007-10-09 05:30:20 »
Turn off your anti-virus program, and then try again.

I know, sounds fishy, but everyone on this forum can assure that the program is safe; however, anti-virus programs lately have been identifying the patcher as a virus (Specifically, an unspecified, generic trojan), due to the fact that it's a program designed to change the code of another program.  Sometimes it blocks the program fm running, otehr anti=virus programs will simply delete the file on-sight.

Once the patch is installed, you can delete the installer and rar file, and turn your anti-virus back on.

I would suggest disconnecting from the internet as you do this, though.  Don't want to leave yourself open to attack.

I decided to make a separate thread for this instead of stuffing the high-res patch thread with more nonsense, but...

Anyway, as I'm sure everyone is aware, AVG anti-virus, and now other anti-virus programs, have been identifying the HRP (both the .rar file and the patcher itself) as being infected with a generic trojan.  Presumably, this is because it's a program to change a program.  People are wondering if their systems are in danger, and i get e-mails and see messages on boards almost every day from people worrying that their systems just got h4xx0red.  I can think of 2 solutions:

1: fix the program so it appears as a legitimate patching tool that is is instead of a malicious over-writing utility... I have dozens of game patches stored on my system, and not once has any of them been confused for a virus.

2: Simply distribute the patched versions of ff7 and ff7config, ala the 1.02 patch.  Would this work, or does the patcher patch other files, too?

....

I might get this, just for Mr T as Barret  XD

They already made a FF7 dating sim.

It was called "Disk 1" =P

61
It is not.  The Geforce 8800 will not render ff7 correctly, as it is too dated and Nvidia dropped support for some of the older rendering technologies =(

If you have Windows, you should have "windows movie maker".  Maybe you can use that to edit the movies down to a 10th of a second?

63
Yeah, the AV programs all show the program a a generic trojan or something =/

Either that, or the SaiNt isn't much of a saint =P  (I keed)

I really don't like this album. Some of the songs are worth listening to; the others are self-indulgent crap that has very little to do with the source material. I recommend "Son of Chaos", "Golden Fields" and "Daydreaming Again" - basically anything that isn't psuedo-electric-hip-hop-trance bullsh*t. For some reason only the quiet songs are decent in this project.

... That's why they're called "Remixes" and not "covers".  In fact, the rule around OCR is "the less it sounds like the source material, the better (as long as the original is recognizable, of course)".  I mean, if you don't like dance music, then that's your prerogative =)  Though since they all make better music than you probably can, i really don't think you have the right to declare that the music is "bullshit".  I mean, what would you rather it all be, bluegreass?

A quote from a topic I started in 'Programming Feedback'.

Quote from: Henkäys Ikuisuudesta
High Resolution FFVII PC (trouble with Norton... WTF?!!)

Yeah, I don't even know where to post this, but well, nevermind.

This is the "trouble":
I open a folder containing the 1280*1024 & 1280*960 patches,
then my 'Norton Internet Security Center 2006' just removes the second patch cause it "thinks" its dangerous.

So, my questions are:
WTF is going on with the patch/with Norton???!!!
And, why it "thinks" the 1280*960 patch its dangerous??!!
And even, why 1280*960 yes but the other no??!!

I'm using the 1280*1024, but I just need to know what is going on with those things!! Grrr!!

Thank you ^^U

I think there is something strange with that patch...

Look harder =)

The high-rez patch comes with a  sub-patch for long-view screens, like on a laptop.

Have you guys tried taking the file out of the RAR folder before executing?

That's where a "trouble" movie is supposed to play.

In ff7, there are several movies that the game has trouble reading for any number of reasons.  That's one of them (it's a very small clip of a side of a building exploding).  Try the "movies to HD tweak" ( http://www.ff7-universe.com/Downloads/FF7Movietweak.txt ) and it should work flawlessly.

Oh, i see you're using Vista.  Make sure you have admin access to your computer, or you may not be able to run the registry hack portion of the  movie tweak.

(late disk 2)

"Cloud and Reno, sittin' near the sea, f-u-c-k-i-.."

*is tackled!*

I mean, unless you WANT the slashy overtones =P

70
Some movies have sound; some movies don't.  The ones that don't have a midi that plays over them.. however, with ff7music, i think it sees the gameplay "stop" so the movie can "play", and it issues a "stop" command for the music.

*shrugs*

Or are you saying the FMVs are entirely silent?

71
There are some videos which i believe are written on "bad" parts of the disk, or rather, in a hard-to-read area.

What i used to do, before transferring the movies to the harddrive, was I'd play the movie in winamp a few times, then load up the part in ff7 just before the movie plays; it would be in memory, and play fine.  I've had to do this for the exploding tunnel, Junon, The Tiny Bronco landing, and a couple others.

I think the problem also lies with FF7's ability to play movies.  Like it's not powerful enough to absorb and display the information. *shrug*

... waaaiiit a second, it shouldn't be doing that on the world map /=.

It does this in the field because the pre-rendered backgrounds are cut up into squares and re-compiled in-game.  But i think you photoshoped that picture you have there, as the world-map is 3D and not stored in chunks /=.

this person:

http://www.youtube.com/user/Scorpicus

has several ff7 in game videos on his account.  They play at a decent framerate, i suggest asking him =)

Personally, i would suggest:  Don't use the high-res patch, play it in 320x240 mode, windowed, and use a program like Camtasia where you can record just a portion of the screen.  This may help your fps.

Heh, Barret's dialog there is funny if Cloud is KOd: He's all "I dunno what's going on, but... it don't look good.  Let's see what happens if I attack when its tail's up!"
