I'm not entirely sure signatures entirely need disabled. While I agree that sig images are pointless and signatures in general can be unwieldy, I also feel that length-limited (250 chars, perhaps?) text/link only signatures CAN be beneficial. Off the top of my head, people could link to their own mods/tools. This would be particularly handy for people whose projects are not frequently updated, as some really good stuff can get pushed back a few pages never to be seen again. If wasted screen space is really a concern, a smaller default size could also be used, and the size tag disabled.

Note: to be clear, I am absolutely not advocating or requesting signatures with images or any other stupid self-indulgent nonsense like that.

An example of a tasteful yet useful sort of signature:

My Projects:
A useful tool | Game mod | Another thing

i agree with corvarrs suggestion for text only sigs...makes it easy to link members of from the same projects, as well as listing projects you have worked on. It makes it easy to find more work from a particular author if you like their style. Of course this could be easily negated with a better search function.....

*Sighs*

When I can figure out how to fix the search function I will (remember I am new at this)

As for signatures, I dont know. Here is what I forsee if enabled: Some very few members will actually have something useful there. Most will have some sort of random crap. So do we allow the crap? Do I allow signatures and then remove the ability for the people that abuse it? That is an awful lot of work for the potential gain.

I agree with Kudistos, no signatures.  If you're looking for a certain Tool, there's only 2 pages to look through.  Mods come and go so quickly it's hard to keep track of who's doing what and is much easier to look through the first few pages of the Mods forum.

I was wondering, would it be possible to change the link of the search from http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?action=search to http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&hl=en&q=site:http%3A%2F%2Fforums.qhimm.com%2Findex.php ?  That way if someone clicks the search button they will immediately be linked to google where all they have to do is type in what they are looking for after the .php.   There is probably some kind of script that could be ran instead, or probably a better link to use, but my homework has left me too drained to think properly.

SL1982 There are many mods you can install to SMF Like:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1930

Not familiar with SMF layout but it should let you upload an .xml file, its just that easy. Make sure you do a cache clean up afterwards :)  Just do some searching around the CP you'll find it.

I do not have access to upload files to the server. So no adding mods. All i can do is mundane stuff like modify boards and usergroups and such.

so this is kinda obscure but in the member's list. How about a way to organize member's by post count. Can't really come up with a good reason why this would be useful right now, I'm tired...but it might be. Anyone wanna back me up? Haha I'll keep thinking

Yes, it would be great if you could just click on the word post and have it arrange the list by post count in descending order. Even better if you could click a second time and arrange them by post count in ascending order. That way, we'd be able to see who has the highest post count and therefore the biggest penis.

Yeah, that's a nice feature. It would be great if we already had it.

I've no idea why I didn't post this here, but here it is.

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11582.msg160542#msg160542

Although I really like FF7, 8, and 9 having their own reverse enginnering, mods, and tools boards, I doubt that anyone really wants to crawl through every message and dump it in the appropriate board.  Forced prefixes - where every new poster has to specify which game they're talking about before they make a new topic - is a decent stopgap measure, and could make game-specific searching easier.

You can't see it, but there's a drop down box with different options under the word prefix.

This would be a mod...SL1982 can't grant this wish :/

Why not?  I'm curious.

EDIT

I do like this idea, but good god that is a ton of work.  There are currently exactly 8051 threads and 108,070 posts (not including completely unrelated).  There's just no way without dozens of people working on it and an extreme level of organization.

Would be helpful though... people looking for help with FFVII High Resolution Patch could be deleted, and other posts like that.  It's just too much work for very little benefit.

On a somewhat related note, I have always toyed with the idea of no longer having post counts or stars even.
Why don't you ask for volunteers, and post topics at other modding forums (like ffhacktics.com), to see if anyone's interested, and to ask how other forums deal with these problems?

Why not?  I'm curious.

He doesn't have access to the server. He is only an admin with access to the control panel, ffhacks has people that have this access.

yarLson, beat me to it.

If you don't have access to the servers, who does?

I would imagine that Qhimm himself does, along with whoever maintains the physical server I'm sure

Does qhimm still come here?  And if the admin can't add mods, can he rearrange the boards?

I'm pretty sure even moderators can rearrange boards so why do you say probably not?

Nope, moderators can't rearrange boards or that would have been one of the first things I did a year ago.   Seeing as sl is asking what we should rename Tech Related to, I think it's safe to assume he can edit them as well

I can modify boards, add boards, rename them. Pretty much everything to do with them i can do. Anything short of access to the server itself I can do (within the limits of SMF)
