Hey everyone I am new here just joined today so if this post is in the wrong section or someone has already posted something like this I apologize. This post applies to The FF8 Laucher as well as Aali's Custom Graphics Driver

Okay so I decided to play Final Fantasy 8 again for the millionth time and I wasn't satisfied with the graphics of the PS1 version and I got the PC version installed with FF8 Launcher. I found out really quick that it was going to be a pain in the butt to set all buttons and axis for my 360 controller the way I wanted. It started when I realized that the Left Analog is extremely sensitive along with not being able to change any button that was mapped to something that was analog. I will explain how to set everything up to make your 360 controller or any controller fully customizable.

All you need is a keyboard to gamepad app. I use Pinnacle Game Profiler.

 1. Open up the file named ff8input.cfg
 2. Rename all the numbers under "Joystick" to 0
 3. Scroll down to the bottom and delete everything with the letter B in it (for example B11    234) including the up,lt,rt,dn this is what it should look like

1. "Select"   32
2. "Exit"     45
3. "Misc"     30
4. "Menu"     17
5. "Toggle"   16
6. "Trigger"  18
7. "RotLt"    44
8. "RotRt"    46
9. "Start"    31
10. "Select"   33
11. "Up"       200
12. "Down"     208
13. "Left"     203
14. "Right"    205
Joystick
1. "Select"   0
2. "Exit"     0
3. "Misc"     0
4. "Menu"     0
5. "Toggle"   0
6. "Trigger"  0
7. "RotLt"    0
8. "RotRt"    0
9. "Start"    0
10. "Select"   0
11. "Up"       0
12. "Down"     0

 4. This next step is very important, it took me a while to figure this one out, but if you just simply save the file and quit it won't work right so you need to right click on the the file you edited after saving the changes and select properties and mark the file read only and click apply (do the same thing to FF8.exe). The reason for this is if you choose to customize your buttons in the game after you have set up your keyboard to gamepad program it's more than likely that more than one function will be applied to the same key and that just makes you want to pull your hair out. After having done what I have put here you should be able to map your gamepad keys to your keyboard without any problems. If you need to set ff8input.cfg back to default but didn't back up the original you can restore it by simply changing FF8Config.exe and ff8input.cfg back to read/write then setting your keys in keyboard and gamepad back to default, this restores the ff8input.cfg back to it's original state.

This problem with multiple functions being applied to one key or button is there because the FF8 Launcher and Aali's Custom Graphics Driver automatically changes or overrides the FF8Config.exe settings to Controller even if you set it on Keyboard. Anyway that's all from me for now. I hope this post helps someone out.
