Tifa's Bootleg

Install Tutorial for Bootleg Configurator

>>> VIDEO TUTORIAL <<<

First of all, you will need to BUY the English Version if you don't have it.

1998 Version

Ebay
Amazon (Europe)
Amazon (North America)

2012 Version

Square Enix Store (Europe)
Square Enix Store (North America)

Why English Version?
Bootleg Configurator is only compatible with the English Version. However, it includes a feature to Translate Text into other languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian

Which Windows?
Windows XP (32 bit), Windows VISTA (32 & 64 Bits), and Windows 7 (32 & 64 Bits).

Free Space needed:
Depending on mod selections, the free space needed is approximately 5GB to 10GB.

Other System Requirements:
A dedicated GPU with at least 512MB of RAM. Integrated Graphics will NOT work.

Do NOT install to system folders such as Program Files (x86) and etc. Instead, use the directory below to avoid any issues.

Recommended Install Directory: C:\Games\FF7

1998 Version

MAXIMUN INSTALLATION IS A MUST

2012 Version

NOTE: Bootleg will automatically detect and convert the 2012 Version to the 1998 Version in order to be modded properly.
You will lose Achievements, Cloud Saves, and the Trainer after it is converted.

Now...

Let's get going on the mods!

Step 1: Read about and download the latest version of Bootleg Configurator.

                  FILE            AUTHOR              DESCRIPTION                   INFO
Bootleg040.zip       PitBrat         Bootleg Configurator           Qhimm FILE

Step 2: Open "Bootleg040.zip" and extract here: C:\Games\FF7Mods

Step 3: Within the extracted folder, set "Bootleg.exe" to run as Administrator:

Right-Click on "Bootleg.exe"
Select "Properties"
Go to the "Compatibility Tab"
Check "Run this program as an administrator"
Click "Apply", then "OK".

Next, open "BFE.exe" to start up Bootleg Configurator.

Step 4: Select your mods.

You can automatically setup your mods by clicking on "Presets" in the menu bar and selecting one.

OR

You can manually setup your mods by using a check-box or drop-down menu.

OR

You can load my settings (EQ2Alyza) from the torrent in STEP 7.

I'm confused. What do some of these mods do?
Tifa's Package: Mod Details for Bootleg Configurator

Step 5: Now click on the menu bar "File --> Mod List" or the blue button labeled "Mod Listing" to the right.

Step 6: You will see a big list with all the mods supported for Bootleg. Each mod shows a brief description of its use underneath, along with a download link to the right.

What do the colors mean?

█ █ █ GREEN █ █ █
These are the mod files that you have downloaded and placed properly into your "Installation Tab --> Mod Source" folder.

█ █ █ YELLOW █ █ █
These are the mod files not required for your configuration.

█ █ █ RED █ █ █
These are the mod files required for your configuration. Do not press "Run Bootleg" if you have any mods in red.

Step 7: START DOWNLOADING EVERY MOD COLORED IN RED. FOR MOD DETAILS & BROKEN LINKS. USE THIS LIST: < TIFA'S PACKAGE >

OR

DOWNLOAD THE TORRENT, WHICH CONTAINS EVERY COMPATIBLE MOD:
< TORRENT >

TIP: Place your downloaded mods into the same folder as Bootleg: C:\Games\FF7Mods

Some mods have more than one different listings. Which should I use?
Choose one of them. You don't need both. Just make sure to download all the parts for whichever listing you choose.

(FacePalmer Example)

I have downloaded all the mods, but they still show as red. What's wrong?
The Installation tab isn't configured correctly.

Point "Destination Location" to the game's main installation folder.
Point "Mod Source" to the folder with the downloaded mods.
Point "Bootleg.exe Location" to the folder with the Bootleg files.
Point "Temporary Files" to anywhere you wish. The default location given is fine.

(My Setup)

Step 8: Once you have downloaded all the red colored files, your mod list should be entirely yellow and green. Now you are ready to install !

IMPORTANT: Disable any Anit-Virus and Firewall software, and close any Internet Browser before continuing.

Click the red button labeled "Run Bootleg" to the right.

Step 9: Almost done!

The first window that will pop-up will be the Final Fantasy VII Configuration v1.02.
Click the "Graphics Tab" to enable Aali's Custom Graphics Driver.

Next, click the "Sound Tab" and select your primary sound device under the drop-down menu.
Leaving this blank will cause the game unable to start.

When installing Gjoerulv's Hardcore Mod, click "Pick install folder" first. Then click the big "PATCH" button, wait for 100% complete, then click "Close".
Always select Original (1997) even if you are using the Re-release (2012).

When installing Menu Overhaul, there may be a few text documents that pop up which will give "error" reports.
These are normal and can be ignored.

When installing FF7Music, PSF is the original Playstation music and OSTRemastered is the Playstation score reworked with more modern instrumentation.
After installing, uncheck "Run FF7" and click "Finish".

Step 10: Configuring Bootloader

Here are some previews for it:

To pass the CD check, click the "Mount" button. Once a drive letter is assigned for FF7DISC1, use the drop-down menu for "Data Drive" and select it.
To get rid of this virtual drive, click "Unmount" or restart your computer.

TIPS:
Complex Shaders currently only work for Radeon Graphics cards.

I recommend two resolutions: 1920x1080 (FullScreen) or 1280x720 (Windowed)

Break Limit 9999 does NOT need to be checked if installed within the "Overhaul Tab" of Bootleg.

I personally always keep "Preserve Aspect" and "VSync" checked to prevent obscure stretching and tearing.

"Postprocessing", "Max Lights", and "Post-processing Shader" work in congruent with each other. They do NOT work when playing in Windowed mode.

What do I do if it doesn't work or something appears broken?
Check the bug report and FAQ's below. If you can't find your problem listed, please post the details here along with your APP.log file found in the main installation folder.

Q: Will this work with Intel HD Graphics?
A: No, they don't support enough video RAM. There will be consistent crashing and freezing when trying to render the new field, battle, and world textures.

Q: I have a dedicated Nvidia GPU, but it will only launch the game with Intel HD Graphics. How do I fix this?
A: Go into the Nvidia Control Panel and set a profile for ff7.exe. Then set the Nvidia GPU to run for that profile.

Q: When I click Play, a black command box appears briefly, and then closes. Nothing else happens after that. How do I fix this?
A: Open FF7Config.exe. Go to the Sound tab and choose a sound device. If it's left blank, the game won't launch.

Q: FF7Config.exe crashes when I try to open it. How do I fix this?
A: Try this: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13745.msg197235#msg197235

Careful... don't say that in front of Kratos  ;)

I receive a lot of questions on YT since Kotaku featured my video. I needed to make this so that I could link everyone here and give credit where it was due.

Well... since we are both Greek... I understand :D. Though I'm looking forward for 0039 version of Bootleg this is a special guide until then.

The game runs pretty smooth. My only problem is that the HQ Aeris does not work properly. Her character model appears but all white without any texture. How can i fix this?

Not that I know of. The ReTranslation Project is only complete up to Junon, so after that you will see original dialogue text again.

There are now two options with ReTranslation that allow you to enable/disable canon character names and canon item names.

It's recommended that you don't run Bootleg over top itself again. You should start with a completely fresh install.

EDIT:

If you're encountering the wrong enemies, then it's probably because you've installed Menu Overhaul ReTranslation with New Spell Name or Aeris Revival.
In Bootleg 0039, don't use ReTranslation with New Spell Name or Aeris Revival.

To fix broken models, you'll need to reinstall FF7 and rerun Bootleg.
