so I installed the roses and whine. but when I go to check in the soundtracks I click next and it tells me this
'a valid final fantasy VIII executable was not found did you select the correct location'
the final fantasy I purchsed was ffrom steam so I'm not really sure what that means..

See help file. You have to chose the correct location.  You also didn't install Roses and Wine - because it won't install until that message doesn't appear. It should find the correct location for you - so it's weird it isn't (either you did not install the game properly or you pirated it).  Do it manually. Find the folder that contains ff8_**.exe and select that folder in the installer.

Finding a folder is a basic operation with an operating system.  You need to learn how to do it to use any number of programs.

I know where my game is located at. I know which folder its in but for some reason when I try to select the soundtracks it keeps telling me the same thing. So Im really confused myself. I tried it with the steam folder, the game folder, wherever my game is located at but still nothing.

Go back and select the folder manually inside the installer.  You have to point the installer to the correct folder. On the "Select Destination Location" window.

its actually ff8_en.exe (or whatever you language is) and not actually ff8_**.exe the ** is where your language goes. Also its possible that UAC is getting in the way, in Steam Verify the cache then go to the root of the ff8 folder and you should see ff8_launcher.exe and ff8_en.exe and various others (depending on language), if these files are there then install RaW into that folder and make sure you are running as admin (right click the RaW installer and click "Run As Administrator")

I installed this and everything was working fine for a week. I haven't messed with anything but now no music plays when I load the game. I remember this happening a few years ago with ff7 too. Is there a reason why this is happening?

There is no way to tell, but it is not caused by this mod.

Hi, to be honest, I've no idea how to install this mod, it's the first mod I install.
I have the Steam version of FF8 downloaded and installed the raw.exe program, copied everything, replaced the .exe, deleted the original music, but the program just gets paused. I've instaled and uninstalled several times, but it still doesn't work.
Does anyone have any idea on what to do?

Read the help (you can read this on the license page after opening the installer).  Read the posts here.  You shouldn't be deleting anything. It's one installer - on the first post in this thread there is a link to it.  Download it - use it. That's all you do.

Trying to install this mod and the installer looks like this:

I can't get any further past this screen, even with tabbing and hitting space bar / enter. Any fix for this?

Not sure how to resolve the GUI, maybe compatibility mode, however... you can use keyboard to get through the settings as required.

start installer> enter > tab > up arrow > enter > tab > enter > navigate to your ff8 root dir > tab > tab > enter > tab > tab > tab > (/select your options!) enter > enter > wait for it to finish, then enter.

You can also reduce your DPI to 72 (previous page reply by DLPB)

I have a question that I can't find the answer to and can no longer remember the solution spite knowing I've resolved this in the past...

When I start the game I have two sets of audio playing, the music is playing twice. Pointers?

edit:

Figured it (somewhat out) and I'm taking a complete guess at what is happening with your installer, but it should non-the-less help you resolve the issue.

Basically where I had installed a previous version of RaW, I had a dmusic_backup folder already.

I believe that maybe when your installer attempts to create the backup folder, it fails that section as the procedure because the folder already exists and therefore does not proceed to move the sgt files out of dmusic and into dmusic_backup.

Because (for what ever reason) I had the midi files in the dmusic again, spite the backup folder (perhaps a steam verification check) both your music and the midis were playing.

Yeah it's the dpi issue.  I have no idea how to resolve it but clearly I need to do somehow.

Hi there, I noticed you fixed the issue regarding the final boss music, and I have a theory about why that was the problem. My guess is that the track was two parts (like in FFVI) in the PSX version. That might explain (in theory) why the song might not have played because it was programmed in the port.

EDIT: I also wonder if that Balamb Town bug was due to the song being in another number, like 44 instead of 42? It's another theory.

The sound effect part was handled differently in the PSX version - it was in 2 parts, yes.  But not as a music track. PC port did not handle it at all.

Is "Eyes on Me" supposed to echo itself during the Ragnarok cockpit scene?

Delete the RaW version of the song if it is already being played by CD drive or Steam version. It's echoing because both Steam/2000 game and RaW are playing it.  I am sure I put this in the help file too - see the license page in the installer.
