Wiki down
« on: 2012-12-20 18:37:19 »
The wiki is currently down. We're looking into it and will try to restore it as soon as possible.

In the meanwhile, an awkward workaround is to go to http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:wiki.qhimm.com , and add the URL of any link you want to view after the 'http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:' fragment. Ugly, but it will get you your content.

Update: Go to http://web.archive.org/web/20110924133226/http://wiki.qhimm.com/Main_Page instead.

I'll see if I can find a more elegant solution if the outage lasts a long time.

It is complaining about PHP so it may be that the PHP engine was upgraded or mangled in the apache server.

If the data is on a machine seperate from the web server then that other machine could be down but the error message didn't convey that type of error so ... (it complained about PHP syntax). MY guess is that a file is missing that defines T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM or the PHP file index.php may have the wrong include now (IE it was defined but now it isn't).

Sounds like a disease.....

It means 'double colon' in Hebrew, and it's a scope resolution operator in PHP.

No idea why this exception is being thrown, though. I would probably need to speak to Qhimm himself.

You can use this link: http://web.archive.org/web/20090302225249/http://wiki.qhimm.com/Main_Page (2009 snapshot). I Hope this helps.

I think i found the source of the problem. The webserver's php engine have been updated up to version 5.3 or above, and mediawiki installed version is older than 1.13.

(bug 12294) Namespace class renamed to MWNamespace for PHP 5.3 compatibility

Per user complaint on #mediawiki. It appears that "namespace" is a reserved
word on some versions of PHP 5 (even though it should not yet be). In any case,
it will officially be at some point, so the use of the class named "Namespace"
needs to be changed, as this causes "unexpected T_NAMESPACE" errors when
Namespace.php is loaded on those versions of PHP. Rather than attach a large
patch to do this, which may get out of date, here's some code to make the
needed change from "Namespace" to MWNamespace":

Code: [Select]
mv includes/Namespace.php includes/MWNamespace.php

find . \( -name "*.php" -o -name "*.inc" \) -exec grep -l Namespace {} \; | \
  xargs perl -pi -e 's/\bNamespace(\.php|::)/MWNamespace$1/'

Obviously, I'm not going to commit such a large change without discussion,
hence this bug.

It looks like your new server is running PHP 5.3, while your old one was running an earlier version.

In PHP 5.3, namespace is a keyword, thanks to the new namespace feature.

Your existing Namespace class is going to need to be renamed. The parse error is occurring as the code tries to resolve Namespace::isTalk() into a namespace name. (The syntax for doing so would be something akin to namespace Foo; it becomes confused at seeing the :: resolution operator.)

The old Caveat "Can you survive an upgrade" likely this means mediawiki needs an update. Interesting it's using hebrew, I wonder if it's hosted in Isreal.

You've spoken the truth Cyb. About T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM, the server has nothing to do with, is php engine responsibility:

Quote
In PHP, the scope resolution operator is also called Paamayim Nekudotayim (Hebrew: פעמיים נקודתיים), which means "twice colon" or "double dot twice" in Hebrew.

The name "Paamayim Nekudotayim" was introduced in the Israeli-developed Zend Engine 0.5 used in PHP 3. Although it has been confusing to many developers who don't speak Hebrew, it is still being used in PHP 5, as in this sample error message:

Code: [Select]
$ php -r ::
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM

Is there anything anyone is going/able/willing to do about the wiki?

in the meantime....

for those of you who need to look up anything which is not contained in the 2009 snapshot, have a look here.

That is the snapshot I took after the last time there were problems at 27-08-2012

Perhaps a mirror wiki should be considered if we're always having to turn back to the creator that has lost most of his interest in it.

I believe earlier this week, when the site was up but the forums down and/or already regressed, the wiki was working. But now it's in its broken state again.

With Qhimm's permission, here's an HTTTrack full copy I made of the wiki on February 16, when it was briefly back up and fully functional. Simply unzip it (it's 7-zipped), and start with index.html (it's browseable after that). It's 109MB compressed, which is decent considering multiple revisions of pages and a significant amount of images.

[Link Removed when wiki was restored]

According to Qhimm, he should have the wiki back up and running shortly (not that I'm his herald or anything), so hopefully we won't need this for long. Anyway, it's nice to have a functional offline copy.

Enjoy.

Wiki should be up again, finally. If you made any very recent edits that you no longer find on the wiki site, I'm afraid you'll have to redo them (copy-pasting from that mirror should work). Sorry about that.

What happened was that back when the server was suffering from hardware failure, while the wiki did survive and stay intact for quite a while, eventually they wiped the machine to an older backup to try to clean out the corruption. This unfortunately undid all my earlier upgrade/repair work on the wiki as well, so I had to sit down and do that all over again.  :x

Let me know if you notice anything still broken. Same notes as before apply (you know, the ones I wrote last time and now never happened...), i.e. slight change to the URLs but old URLs should redirect to the new ones so no broken links.

Problems I know of:
  • All uploaded images seem to be broken
  • Revision history links aren't formed correctly, in different ways for the actual page and for the link in the recent changes list

Doesn't seem that revision history works at all. None of the pages I've checked have them. Contributions works fine, however.

Fixed! If anyone find others character encoding problem, please let me know.

The problem is in the short url rewrite rule. History link is properly working on the original url.
Ex: http://wiki.qhimm.com/index.php?title=FF7/Text_encoding&action=history
Replace the title manualy to access.
