Here is a beta of the 4.0 version of my sound effect replacement mod. The mod now uses the FFNx SFX engine.
What this means for the mod is now you get;
  • A single, consolidated mod for SFX+Shuffler. Shuffler is now built in to the base mod and doesn't require extra software (Ultrasound) to run.
  • Looping sound effects.
  • Higher quality sounds.
  • Easier and faster development
This project started out in 2018 as a little mod to just replace the FF7 UI sounds with the UI sounds from FFXIII. Since that time, it has evolved into something far more... After following the community and modding the game for several years, I noticed the graphical and musical mods were growing and advancing but the sound effects department was totally stalled. I mean, it's an entire 1/3 of what your senses are taking in, besides the visuals and music! I wanted something to match the beautiful/advanced graphical and musical mods provided by the very talented authors/creators of this community... So, I present to you most complete sound effect replacement mod currently available!

The goal of this mod is to give the sound effects of FF7 a complete overhaul/update with carefully chosen, professional quality, accurately timed, equalized, and edited sounds; on a scale previously never achieved.

Main Features:
  • Replaces/updates ~630/724 sounds including battle, magic, enemy skills, limit breaks, summons, world and ambient sound effects.
  • Shuffles battle impact sounds as well as other select sounds randomly so you never hear the same exact sound twice in a row.
  • New Ambient sounds for every field in the game (currently up through Kalm, including the flashback)
  • 7 different selectable UI(menu) sound sets; Vanilla, Final Fantasy X, XII, XIII-A, XIII-B, Dissidia NT, and XV. All sounds outside of menus will be from the same base set.
New in 4.0 beta:
  • New Ambient sounds for every field in the game (currently up through Kalm, including the flashback)
  • 3 New UI sound sets; Dissidia NT, FFXII and FFXIII-B (XIII now has 2 because XIII uses different UI sounds for regular menus and battle menus)
  • UI sound sets now include unique exp-gain, menu-heal, purchase, save-sphere, item-get, char-lvlup, equip, materia-lvlup, materia-get, and GP-get sounds for each set, instead of just cursor, ATB, error, back and sharing all of the aforementioned.
  • 130 new sounds for a total of about 630/724 replaced sounds (not counting extra shuffled sounds)
  • ALL sounds up to Temple of the Ancients has been replaced including looping and ambient(background) sfx.
  • Re-replaced/fixed existing sounds
  • Added Chocobo Summon sounds
  • Added more shuffled sounds like jumping, landing, battle swirls which weren't possible before with Ultrasound.

This will stay in 4.0-beta until EVERY sound in the game is replaced (currently at about 630/724) and 7th Heaven/FFNx can run it out of the box without having to edit any config files. Until that time, it will stay out of the catalog and be manual download only for those who want to test-drive.

Planned features for 4.0:
  • Battle "grunts" (character voices when attacking)
  • Replacing sound effects in FMV's (pre-rendered cut scenes)
  • Obviously, finishing the remaining 100 sounds

IMPORTANT
-This new version of the mod REQUIRES FFNx 1.8.1.145+
You can download the latest FFNx here : https://github.com/julianxhokaxhiu/FFNx/releases/tag/canary (use the 1998 with 7h)
You'll find instructions here : https://github.com/julianxhokaxhiu/FFNx/wiki/How-To_Install look at "7thHeaven 2.2.3+"

-You MUST edit your FFNx.toml file and set (use_external_sfx = true) and (external_sfx_path = "data/sfx"). Make sure you remove the hashtags before each setting, as well.

-Delete old versions of Bonez' Sound Effect Suite and Bonez' Sound Shuffler Add-on

-Adjust your music volume accordingly depending on your music mod selection. I recommend 50% music-volume and 100% SFX-volume with Tsuna Arranged and EDMusic.

Since the FFNx SFX engine is still semi-experimental and this is a beta, it's good possibility you may find bugs. If you experience any, please let me know.
Ambient sounds have not been fully tested for every field yet. You may find bugs with it. If you do, the option can be turned off and please let me know what you see.

Lowering/raising the SFX volume in the game's Config menu seems to disable the SFX sounds altogether (menu cursors, engine sounds etc.). I'm using FFNx-v1.8.1.140 and I've set the correct settings in the FFNx.toml file during installation.

You're right. Thank you. I've never had a reason to lower the SFX, only the music; as the SFX are already a much lower volume than any of the music. I likely would never have found this. The next FFNx canary will likely have a fix.

FFNx v1.8.1.144 seems to have fixed this issue. That aside, would it be possible to turn down or adjust the SFX that occurs during the transition to a battle? I've always found that to be louder/longer than the rest of the SFX. Other than that, it's a great mod for what it has been so far.

I'm currently having problems getting the music to play after installing the updated FFNx driver 1.8.1.13+.  I've set the settings correctly on the FFNx.toml file and removed the "#" as mentioned.  The sound effects suite all work but only the default music plays.  The music mods I use are the the Tsuna Arranged and the EDMusic, and I used to use the Symphonic Redux mod before this, now they don't load at all even by themselves.  I also get the black screen blinking throughout the game.  Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong?

This isn't related to this mod, but to get music mods to work with the new FFNx, you need to enable external music and set the path for external music to "music/vgmstream", similar to how you did for the sfx. The next 7H release will not require all this, btw...

The black blinking thing is apparently an AMD issue. I don't know anything about it as I use intel... I do experience blinking if I use the program Borderless Gaming to make the game borderless, however. But that seems to be a Borderless Gaming issue.
