3 general Tweaking questions...
« on: 2005-10-14 05:39:04 »
Hi, I've been searching and reading for a while, and I have 3 very general questions in terms of tweaking.

1) Can sound EFFECTS, like a slash sound, be edited?? I think it wound be under the "sound" folder, but its an audio.dat file, so i dunno how to approach it...

2) If I wanted to play around and edit a patch, let's say the Sephiroth patch, I know there's probably a lot to know about the process, but where do I begin? the char.lgp file?

3) About the char.lgp file, there are tons of files in there and I have no idea what they relate to or what they mean since the filenames aren't explanatory. So is there a map/key out there based on this file stating what each extension means and what the filenames refer to???

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help me or direct me to a specific FAQ or thread (which i didnt find...damn), frankly I have an interest in this, but I'm quite a newbie in terms of editing these things... >.<....

I'm still new to this myself but I can tell you this much. .lgp files contains the animation, skeletons, textures and models.

3) char.lgp contains 3d models for the game when you walk over the maps or world.

File extensions should go like this:
TEX - textures, pictures
P - 3d models, parts of the bodies
RSD - 3d body part description, points to P files and TEX files
HRC - model skeleton description, points to the RSD
A - animation files

There was no list for char.lgp ... but I found on my disc some archive with models splitted by names (ff7_models_1122810965.zip) ... i'll make a listing of it, here:

1) Cosmo has an audio editor to replace the sound effects; unlike the rest of Cosmo it's reasonably reliable, too... ;)  Although it's not amazingly user friendly, the sounds are listed by number (not name), and you need to make sure the WAV file you want to replace the sound with is ADPCM compressed yourself, Cosmo doesn't do it for you.

does it have to be the same size/bit rate/sample rate etc?

Certainly doesn't have to be the same length (time), and the "bitrate" of ADPCM is always 4-bits.

I'm not sure about sampling rate and channels (mono/stereo); try it and find out, is all I can suggest ;)

Oh I forgot to ask, but Mirex, would you happen to have a list of the battle.lpg files too? Or would u know where I can find one? cuz i know its a huge list and all too, so if u or anyone else can direct me to one i'd really appreciate it. How did you find out what each of them do anyway?? can you actually view them somehow...?
Anyway THanks...

Don't thank me, its not my work, it was done by someone else (dunno who).

mine - http://mirex.mypage.sk/FILES/monsters.txt
alhexx's - http://www.alhexx.com/descriptions/other/battle_database.txt
those two letters starting the line are first two letters of the files in the archive

Yea by viewing them probably :) There are few viewers available on the net, I will ofcourse promote mine ;) Biturn and also see this thread with list of other software: Compilation of Programs

Heh yeah thanks again...although looking through some of this stuff has partly destroyed my level of confidence...I guess basically what I'm trying to figure out, is how do I figure out what parts one character is comprised of? For example, the reunion patch replaced the models for all the characters, but how do you figure out what parts go with which characters?? There are thousands of files in char.lgp, even just for ".p" files alone...

It would be great if there was a program like Mirex's Leviathon program that shows the model, but then also lists all the parts that the model uses...wait is there..? Mirex..? Anyone?? ...ahhh my head hurts......

See its easy. You want to find the files for Bugenhagen - you find him in the list, there is note: Bugenhagen 2 - Normal (gwcc) for example.
So you go to the file 'gwcc.hrc', open it with notepat - it is a text file. Inside you see list of the .rsd files which are needed for the model. And inside every .rsd file you see list of files needed for the body part.
Simplier, if you sort the files by the name, files from one .hrc file to another .hrc file belong to the one model. For example files from 'aaaa' to 'aagb' do belong to Cloud (if i remember correctly). Files from 'aagb' to another hrc do belong to Tifa.

Its even easier in Battle models. See the list, for example:
bc    Hedgehog Pie
bd    Smogger

so all files starting on 'bc' (for example 'bcaa', 'bcab', 'bcac' .... ) belong to Hedgehog Pie model, and all files starting on 'bd' ( 'bdaa', 'bdab', 'bdac' ) belong to Smogger model.

ohh...im beginning to see how it works...sort of...but this is with hrc and rsd files right? So how do you know which ".p" files go with which character? I opened an .rsd file but it listed some other filetypes...Let's say if u wanted to switch Tifa's and Aeris' models for example, then would u deal with .hrc, .rsp, or .p?? or all of them?? Mad respect for you guys who figured this stuff [email protected]@

Edit: Ok I was playing around with things, and to be more specific, how would you switch the models of 2 characters with a different number of bones?? Cuz i tried and im guessing it looks screwed up because the animations are designed for a certain number of bones? How do you edit that sort of thing??

There are several models there for minigames, so is it possible to change who goes on what minigame from there?
