FF7 Reactor 1 field BGs resized (fractals)

(1/4) > >>

darkken:
I've seen people mention fractals as a good method to resize the FF7 backgrounds, but I haven't seen many (any?) in-game attempts, so I thought I'd experiment with the Reactor 1 backgrounds at 2x the original size.

If you want to give it a try: Download
- Requires Aali's custom graphics driver
- Replace the appropriate field files in flevel.lgp with the ones in the zip
- Place the 'field' folder in the 'textures' folder

Yeah i experimented with fractals a while back. Looks too blotchy, backgrounds need to be redone from scratch.

secondadvent:
those look pretty much like the backgrounds after smartbloom is used, though slightly more smoothed. wouldn't be too bad with fractals until they are redone correctly for those who can't/don't like to use smartbloom (or any bloom for that matter :-P).

still, redone backgrounds would end up 100x better than just the originals with fractals, just saying it wouldn't be too bad for a simple little side mod just for the originals enhanced with fractals.

I agree having a full fractal mod would be great in the mean time.

Any side by side comparisons? Looks pretty good to me.

darkken:
I agree with all points, obviously this isn't supposed to be in competition against remade backgrounds.

Here are some comparisons, Timber (compare to the 1st and 4th links in the first post):
