It seems true about most games nowadays sadly.

hahahaha ;)

I stand by it...  All of those games turned against what they were about and started down the path to mindless graphics and action.  Re4 is nowhere near as good as Re2 imho.

It is fanboyism.  On a place like this forum, you will notice that a lot more people are agreeing with those sorts of sentiments.  Venture out of qhimm to general gaming sites and you will notice that you are made to feel stupid by saying the same things.

The grip of final fantasy is so tight, that a lot of people lack the ability to see past their own eye balls, and realise that something is very wrong.  They lack the ability of free thought, because their fanboyism is blinding them to the obvious.

If people could look objectively at this franchise, FF13 would not have been anywhere near as popular as it was, especially with reviewers.  It seems that action and graphics are popular with a shit load of people.  They see things that are not there, see positives in clear negatives ("Oh I didn't like world map, so I am glad it isn't there anymore" etc).  They equate evolution in what is actually reduction.

Quite simply, there are too many stupid people about.  Thanks to them and the corrupt magazines that review games, we now have to suffer the consequences.

It is nothing to do with emo characters.  For a starter, Squall was sociopath.  It does not mean it is a bad story because the character has a character trait.  The reason I am sick of modern JRPG and games is the reliance on graphics instead of substance.  Liek FF12,13,14, MGS4, RE4, RE5. etc.

It is now just a graphic fest and gameplay plays second fiddle to it.  The dumbing down is ridiculous.  The stories are also getting more bloated and ridiculous.

I spoke of it in IRC and then God showed up (Qhimm) and duly fixed it.

Yeah you should not clean your ear anyway.  The wax there is usually in nice equilibrium and is for your balance. Clean outside, not in.

If it is an ear infection you need to go docs and get a check up, it may be bacterial and you will need antibiotics.  I know, cause I also have one ;)

Well that is the thing... it certainly will mean something to the author and is possibly pulled from some sort of myth.

http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Alek

One thing is sure.  It isn't wrex or rex, because if it was they would not have started it with an A among other problems.

See it could also be a pun.  They could have used the su from the areksu to become the x.  So for example Alexoul.  or somethin silly that doesnt work as well with english.

If I had to go with hand on heart, I would say it is taken from Alexander and is Alek Soul or Alex Soul or Alexoul.

yeah Alex is just 1 extra kana, I think they were just playing about with it, so I would definitely go with the above 3.  Well that was a nice diversion.  Also goes to show you how the English localisation refuse to change it even when blatantly wrong...

At least they changed Atma weapon LMAO.

ソウル

is soul for sure :)  At least.  L spiro says they definitely intended Ale at the start.

perhaps they just didnt have the space for what they intended.  Certainly not wrex though or rex.

It is no joke... and that definitely is not the correct translation.  The kana does not fit it at all.  What it is, I dunno.  That first bit could be any number of things Alek, alec, arek, arec, etc etc.

アレクソウル (Arekusouru)

アレク Areku.  Cannot be Wrex.  It is impossible.  I would assume Wrex soul would be uurekusu souru or just rekusu souru

http://www.thinkbabynames.com/meaning/1/Arek  I would go with Arek... But I can't tell what it is.

Why is that even a talking point :P

No in VII there are lots of little things going on:

Resuscitating Priscilla, driving the train to stop ir crashing, punching in codes, junon tv ratings march.  Things that brighten up the game.  In VI it is all grind and grind more.  It isn't anywhere near the same level.

8693
It is pointless conversing with you.  You manage to twist and spin everything people say into what you want them to say.  You have definitions for words, you tell dictionaries what they mean, you redefine the word "good" and you spin like a politician.  A bad one.  We have had this conversation haven't we... and it has come to an end.  I have said what I feel, and if you don't like it, I couldn't care less.

Good day  :P

Are you joking?  Lacking in game play?

-Minigames:  Bike, sub, snowboard for starter.  3 major minigames that 6 doesn't have of ANY kind
-Materia system, and finding materias.  Each with a new ability that you can even get working with extra effects.  Mastering materia.
-Super bosses
-ultimate weapons (like venus gospel)
-Breeding chocobos
-Chocobo racing
- Fort Condor mini game
- Enemy Skills
- Mansion safe
-Riding train, secret codes, huge materia
-Wallmarket and honeybee manor
- Battle Arena
- Roller coaster mini game
- Wutai side quest

What exactly does VI have compared to that?   It has nothing of the sort like it.  It is just grind and find with VI, something every RPG does.

Some people try to pass off FF6's failings as superiorities, and it drives me crazy. They say Kefka is a better villain because he didn't need a reason, he was just crazy. No, that just makes him an underdeveloped villain. The fact is, he's really no better than the villain from Dungeons & Dragons: evil because he's the bad guy and that's his place in the story. He does horrible things, and his only apparent motivation is that the writers want to make sure you know he's the bad guy.

This isn't to say FF6 is the only game with this problem. FFIV had it in spades. The difference is, FFIV doesn't try to hide it, and more than makes up with it through some of the best hero development I've ever seen in a game.

I have heard all that too and it is so desperate and frustrating.  It is generally the same with everything.  Like with ff13, they say it is great that your control was minimised or that traditional towns "that got in the way of the action" have been almost eradicated.

FF6 had a very basic plot but let's remember what console it was on.  For its time it was an amazing game but people need to take off the blinkers.  Story wise compared to VII it just doesn't rate, and as kud said, that is wholly demonstrable in terms of dialogue and complexity.  People like to make excuses for things when they have nowhere else to run.

kefka is mad... because he is.  Someone is in love... because they are.

There is no way around it.

I was bored out of my mind with FF6's story to be frank (and all the while what faith I had in reviews was dwindling to nothing), and the reason I finished the game was because the music and gameplay were up to the standard.  The FMV added later for PSX were good too.

My position is one of not knowing.  You can wrap that up however you like.  Your position is thinking your position is cleverer.  Who is more smug in thinking they know it all?  You seem to be attacking me for not taking either position, and then accusing me of thinking I know everything.  The 2 don't go together and attacking someone for being neutral comes across as foolish in this debate.  I of course consider some things more likely than others, but I certainly don't have the evidence to start choosing either position.

You have chosen a position based on a gross absence of evidence.

8697
you falsely present yourself as a rational middle ground.

I don't think in this instance that taking a neutral stance is inferior.  If anything, it is the only correct choice because we lack so much information and always will.

If you saw an edge of a rocky surface and couldn't see over it, you could assume there was a huge drop but there might not be (in fact it might not even be a rocky surface, that could be illusion).  Your position seems to be one of thinking that 1 position is the be all and end all and that you know.

I'd say your position of thinking you know it all or will do, is 100X worse, and a silly comic isn't clever...

8698
Atheists are far more critically minded and superior in thought to a religionist.  Atheism is nowhere near as bad as religionist, although it can be every bit as bigoted.

A proper position to hold is either weak atheism or agnostic.  I think to be so closed minded to other possibilities than pure science is just as silly as not being open to science.

The world is not that simple and it is bigger than religion and bigger than science.  If anyone thinks the universe is that simple, that it can be understood by our small brains, good luck with that delusion.  As I said before kud, you are looking for disappointment and you are like 10 pin bowling... and you will be the one being hit with a strike.

I am afraid that as much as you like to believe we can understand everything, we can't and no matter what science says or does, it is never going to prove or satisfactorily answer the greatest question in history "How and why is our universe here and how and why are we here."

It can answer all the questions in the universe but it won't answer from where the laws came.  Crack pot theories of multi dimensions are just as baseless and fantastic as some form of creative force.  There is no proof and there never will be.

8699
Personally I think a lot of the theories used to explain existence are every bit as ridiculous as "man in the sky"
:P

Sounds like some scientists are as desperate as religionists.

Awesome.

On a side note, I just started playing FFIV The Complete Collection on PSP, and I really like the fact that you see the character's portrait in the battle menu, when his command menu appears. Just wondering if such a thing would be possible in FFVII.

Anything is possible but that one would be for aali.
