Hey i was curious, what are the main projects on the board ? i have seen a list of them but choose to ask because most of them required a few pages of long reading so i thought it would be easier to just ask.

So I see there is many projects, Final Fantasy VII Phoenix Rejuvenation Project, FF7 voice project ect ect

My main question is how do they all tie together ? if they even do so. Are they all linked together to make a fan based remake or the game or are they just for in game mods specifically created for their own sole purposes.

I am very new I have many questions because this site is so vast and i am very far behind in knowledge of the past and current projects. Which project is the main REMAKE of the game. I also see many people posting up skins for the game ect, has it already been reskinned and remastered once before by this sites mods and they have choosen to do various new edits or different takes on various skins for the game. Shine the light please i am confused i see many videos of people playing with sephi on youtube and many cool skins are these all just in progess works for the game ? HAS THERE BEEN A COMPLETE REMAKE which is completed by mods on this site ? if there already is i will assume all these new skins are for a NEW mod of the game.

I do not understand really everything is so split apart on the board its hard to tell if there is one core project or not especially when reading for my first time here that some of the sites projects are DEAD ect ect or that certain skins and stuff are just fan made by modders on the site. Is there a core team working on a main project that is a direct fan remake of the game. Please give me knowledge this game deserves a remake since Square is full of blockheads nowadays i came to the board in light of a worthy Fanbased community and it seems I have found it :). But like i said i need to get caught up with info, the old the new and the current Aim of the board( I am mainly targeting FF7 here i know there is ff8 & 9 projects also ect ect.

Sorry for any spelling mistakes ect its late. I wish to discuss this topic with long time members on the board. I plan to stick around on the site now that i know about it I would love to get involved with the sites projects and board members, I am not much of a modder but i have money and a good imagination & a kind heart so hopefully I may be some help to the board in the future.

Well the closest thing to a "remake" mod, is team avalanche, (last forum on the list). we are remaking all the visual assets of the game at higher quality and resolution, while maintaining the style of the original game. there is /a lot/ to do, so dont expect things too fast from us, we arn't very numerous. As to mods in general, there are a number of editors to modify the game as you see fit, you'll find them in game tweaking, such as wallmarket, proudclod, whitechoco, etc (thers a ton, n i dont really use them so you'll have to hunt em yerself). The pheonix rejuv project is rather dead right now as far as i know, and it involved modifying field characters to look more like characters in battle. (correct me if i'm off).

The other mod of particular note is Aali's custom driver, which can be found in tech related, and allows you to play ff7 at higher resolutions, and does a bunch of other magic things too...

hope this helps!

Quote** we are remaking all the visual assets of the game at higher quality and resolution, while maintaining the style of the original game.

so your actually remaking them ? so i take it would be the same as re skinning the game but to look close to the original as possible. You said "ALL the visuals" does this include the world map+ingame areas and battle visuals**(sprites+weapons+monsters, and clouds world map character sprite ?, and what are your plans for the games videos ? I will assume magic+summons were first priorities.

you said phonex project is dead for the time being and they planned on doing re edits of the games monsters ?? your team has no plans for this currently ?

Sorry to be so bold with my questions you answered almost everything but i want to get a more clear indepth idea of what your team is doing with the game. Is there any progress or screen shots ? & thank your for clearing most of my questions up although i am sure i will have more as people start discussing this topic. It is very interesting what team avalanche is doing.

i never said nething about monsters for the prp.

Most of the magic effects have already been fixed up. summons, not so much. those are 3d models, and therefor take longer to make. re-skinning ff7 doesnt work that well, because there arnt many textures to begin with, so you'd need to make uv maps for the existing models, so why not just make nicer models :P.

As to the movies, we are slowly redoing the background images, and when those that make up an fmv are done i intend to reanimate them... :D

As to our progress, i told you to check the team avalanche forum. Its right under the ff7 voice forum. now do some research for yourself.

Finance? I am not sure you understand our reasons for doing this. But if you feel like throwing away money i could use a nice dual xeon workstation for rendering  :-P

All of these projects are done by volunteers for free. Bringing money into the equation could lead to a quick C&D from Square Enix.

and how much would that cost ? and what would it help accomplish, i would also not consider it throwing away money on my end.

IMO this is the greatest game ever made the music is good and the story was a classic the only thing close to it IMO is ff6 which is right on its tail.

I am willing to help out if you need someone to read the script and fix spelling ect i can do easy jobs like that but i cant help graphically i have no knowledge of how to mod things like that and would have to start from scratch. I would definitly be willing to fund for tools for the project or anything like that.

The only issue i have with funding is a future dead project which i hope does not happen in this case. If you can find me job to help out with i would definitly stick to the task, if there is ever a in game issue i could do test runs or something like that. I can not think of much else to help with you guys would have to assign me a role if there is any i could fit.

It was a joke. We do this because we enjoy it. Unfortunately right now i cannot think of anything in the overhaul that is non graphical for you to assist with.

I started the Avalanche overhaul in august. The eventual goal is to redo or enhance all graphical aspects of the game.

i am happy to see the progress so far its a shame more people wont help out i am considering learning graphical elements what programs could i get to begin, and out of advice you said you did not know anything when you started where do i start.

If its graphics that you need then count me in atleast once i get the hang of things with some practice. Of course there is no rush since this project is probably going to take a long time.

Cloud looks great in game, the text boxes in game and materia  look good so far. When do you guys plan on doing the monsters & are there any summons done yet ? I looked through all the screens i could find so far and everything looked good.

I am not sure how to play the beta yet i will look into it more tomorrow, does it play on PSX or PC ?

TA is for the pc version. We have no summons done yet. A custom tifa model is currently in the works by xenobond. Monsters are near the end of the list as there are so many. this holds true particularly for unique monsters. Monsters which share models can be retextured with relative ease, and thus have a bit more value for being done first.

If you want to help out, I suggest you pick up blender, or another 3d ap. (blender is free, the others cost lotsa money). Once you have installed blender, proceed to go through this

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro

It will prime you on blender, then practice, practice more. If you want you can pick up something to model right off the bat, and just keep working it til its perfect. We'll always be around to provide criticism and suggestions. 3D isnt quite as hard as it seems, particularly when you have help around. For example, SL1982 just started what... a few weeks ago? and he's got this done:

If you want to contribute what you can offer is your time and effort ^^.

So how exactly are you guys editing the game ? u just download the pc version or buy it and take our random files and edit them ?

I assume ur just dragging backgrounds out of the games folders or such ?

It won't take you half a year.  Maybe two weeks, tops, to get a good grasp of what's going on and learn your way around various editing programs.

You will definitely need to buy the PC version though.  You won't be much help to anyone without it  :P

I have the pc version on a disk some where around the house i will look for it.

I find it hard to believe it will only take a few weeks to grasp the idea of how graphics work especially since if i start getting into the kind of modding FF7 needs i will definitly probably get into more of the games side projects and get caught in a shit fest of modding :P which should be fun.

Tomorrow I am going to take my first run at blender, My next question is .... what tutorials are already on the site for working on THIS game specifically since i will eventually move onto the game after i am done practicing and learning the blender tutorial that timu posted for me

i made a short vid back depicting the modeling of a face, but thats both poorly done, and insignificant to ff7 in particular. just learn blender, n we'll take it from there.

I've been doing the tutorials the last 2 days, I got to a part with lighting but I never got it to work and going through google looking at pages didn't turn up anything, I think its a problem with my computer, basically I place a light then I choose all the options ( color , intensity etc ) but it never appears, even when rendered. The only way I was able to get any lighting at all was in the options at the top there is "Solid OpenGL Lights" but those light up everything. All the other tutorials so far have been without a probably and very fun to go through, I spent hours making landscapes!

This is my first time doing 3d, I think its very fun, I google'd a few pages and read up a bit up Maya / 3ds max, Maya is out of my price range and looks too advanced, 3ds looks more user friendly, there are many tutorials, Lightwave seems popular also. I might pick up 3ds max for fun, will need to read more about it.

Anyways, thanks for getting me started in 3D!
