Version 2.0 is now up! (It's "only" 34MB now.)

Damn. What a nightmare translating a game is! Just one sentence can be so tricky!!!

Hmm. Personally I think the "where I left off" bit is a real mouthful. Unfortunately I can't think of another way to getting across the information without drastically rewriting it.

Hmm.
Old
“I traveled around a long time…”{NEW}
“And this town has the most beautiful
   ocean I've ever seen.”{NEW}

Revision 4
“I travelled the whole world
  before I realised the most
  beautiful ocean is right here,
  where I left off.”{NEW}

Suggestion: "I've travelled the whole world, and this is still the most beautiful ocean I've ever seen."

I might just tag it 1.0, I have an updated version ready too, will post tomorrow at some point.

Awesome!

I'm all ears for questions / suggestions, just make sure you RTFM!

This all seems to be working fine for me. I guess this would be v0.8 once it was all compiled?

Air taxi is surely the right name for this? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_taxi

If "Skiff" is the model name, then it should be capitalized to make it clear to the reader.

General Discussion / Re: FFVII steam release
« on: 2013-09-27 18:49:10 »
That only mentions a PC release, not specifically Steam (don't forget, for a whole year FF7 was only for sale on their own Store and not Steam), and it only mentions Japan. The SteamDB page shows languages: "english, german, french, italian, spanish, japanese" as well as is obviously specific to Steam. If nothing else, you can see update logs, so you know that they're actively working on it, and some details which may not have been made public.

Gotcha.

If they were comparing it with the official CD releases of the soundtrack, they are flat out wrong.  I doubt they were.  They are identical except the CD is higher quality.

I doubt they did a comparison. If you read the petition, I don't think they even mention the CD. They were just in a fervour that it wasn't the PSX music.

The Steam Database (I think Valve changed the name when I wasn't looking, it totally used to be called Steam Registry) is unrelated to the Windows registry. It's an internal database of absolutely every product, bundle, DLC, etc on Steam. This page explains a bit more a bout how it works, but in short, it's often an easy way to see information on updates and sometimes even products that haven't been made public.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. My bad.

Not to mention inferior...  The quality of PSX simply isn't up to the standard of a professional OST release in this case.  And I am really shocked they would mess about using PSX emulation to achieve this result.  I suppose they couldn't get rights to using the music through official OST or... found it harder to do somehow.

I'm pretty sure it was the fan petition on Steam that caused them to make the changes, and the fan petition insisted that the original PSX music was the best. *shrugs*

I'd assume they did it themselves, otherwise it wouldn't have taken so long. The game has received quite a few changes in the Steam Registry before the update was actually pushed out, so I think they've been working on this for the past month or so.

Changing the music doesn't require any registry changes. Weird. Are you sure they've been making changes?

Did they burgle mine per chance?  :-D

No. Your files are from the OST. Theirs is literally converted from the PSX music (which is slightly different).

The experiments were an attempt to create a "super soldier" who had the powers of Sephiroth, right?

Sephiroth type is certainly better than clones being placed into the game...   :-D  But I will sort something out, at the least, the clone error won't be there.

Maybe you could refer to them as "Jenova experiments"? Something along those lines? :-/

You can do as he just said, or just use "Sephiroth-type" etc.  That above quote  you have used from the original game is already pretty badly worded as is anyway.  And using clone there is completely erroneous to begin with.

I can't see how "other Sephiroth" works in that situation, nor "Sephiroth-type". Seems very tricky to me.

This seems easily enough worked around through careful wording.

So how would you reword these to make it clear that he's not referring to clones, but that whatever he's talking about were still based on an attempt to make them "like" Sephiroth?

Hojo
“I have been waiting for the Reunion to start.
Five years have passed, and now the clones
   have begun to return.”

Hojo
“I thought the clones would begin
   to gather at Midgar
   where Jenova is stored.”

Wow. So how are you going to make this "copy" issue clearer in the text? Sounds tricky.

94
Just fyi you can specify the files to extract directly on the commandline without copying to a temp dir

md textures
ulgp.exe d battle.lgp textures [files...]

There's also a newer version of ulgp (command line only), doesn't really change too much though, just easier to use once you get the hang of it.

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12831.msg196790#msg196790

So there's a switch that just extracts the textures? I wasn't aware of that. Thanks!

Kind of makes the whole "tool" pointless now :-/ Lol!

Edit: Oh wait, do you mean that you can place the texture file name instead of extracting the whole lot? Yes, that would be better.

Edit edit: Not complete sure what you meant, but I've changed it and now it's uber fast! Thanks.

FF7 Tools / Re: Loveless - a FF7 text editor [v2.5]
« on: 2013-09-26 10:03:36 »
It makes dialog changes very easy that is true, but it was totally eclipsed by Makou_Reactor. MR has the exact same abilities plus so much more.

Actually, Loveless is much quicker and has some more abilities than Makou Reactor (for example being able to search and replace through the entire .lgp with one click -- although obviously you can do more with MR overall). It also gives you quick and easy access to all of the markup shortcuts, and has a better interface to boot.

There's definitely some jobs where Loveless still wins, even if there's more jobs that TS and MR do better.

Here's a list of the files inside magic.lgp etc if you didn't see this already:

If you include Alyza's, they've all been done.

She didn't retexture them, she just upscaled them.

Troubleshooting / Texture Locations
« on: 2013-09-25 16:47:11 »
Thanks to EQ2Alyza I understand where the Battle Scenes textures are stored, but I was wondering if people could direct me to the location of:

- Spell Textures (i.e. the effects you see when you cast spells)
- World Map Textures (i.e. the textures used when you're on the world map)

Thanks a lot!

EDIT: According to the Wiki, the World Map is stored in WM0.BOT and WM0.MAP -- perhaps the textures are stored in world_us.lgp? :-/

Hey Thunderpeel there are some battle scenes Team Avalanche released too here:
http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13943.0

Sweet! Thanks for letting me know. I've updated the spreadsheet.

I believe there's only 19 scenes that haven't been retextured at this point!

100
This is a simple tool (actually just a glorified batch file linked with Luksy's ulgp.exe) that allows you to quickly extract all 583 textures from battle.lgp. It saves a lot of time for anyone who wants to start re-texturing the battle scenes.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzZG8hMrQocwSGNWYzQwSkU0Z0E/edit?usp=sharing

Instructions
1. Extract the three files into a folder.
2. Place battle.lgp in the folder.
3. Double click "RunMe.bat"

That's it!

Then just use IROS TEXTOOL to convert all 583 files to PNG.

0.2 UPDATE: Now much faster, thanks to Lusky.
