There is nothing to be done about the famous "black bar" issue you describe. It's there to account for the fact that old CRT TV's cut this portion of the screen off. Were lucky the battle screens don't do it also.

I just checked the unmodded Steam version, and it happens there too! So bascially... Square just released a game that does not display properly on 90% of computer screens, and they didn't even bother to fix it? :(

Oh, I found it, I think. The Big List of Mods is scary but this stuff is in there. Take a look.  Grimmy's AC Tifa

I don't think that's the same one. The face is totally different. Pause at 1:53 to see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1_Lq37vKe4#t=113s

I mean this

Thanks! Starting reinstallation number 11... :o

Edit: Still messed up. :(

Honestly, I really need help.   If I've missed an explanation in this forum please...... A simple copy and paste would be much appreciated.... i mean 43 pages in this particular forum to find the answer to one problem can be very overwhelming.  I do not mean to ask questions to which the answer has already been given but if I have please direct me to the proper page and I will read it.  Maybe I over looked something along my way?  I would love to be able to solve the issue and get to playing.
Thank you
Also...  if I change the settings in the bootleg screen do i have to run bootlader again to apply the changes?
I'm really not that savvy to modding games. Usually I just click subscribe in steam LOL.   The only game ive successfully modified without steam to help was AvP classic 2000 and that was 2 folders dropped into the games main folder.   This is much more advanced than my experience.

Hi,

I downloaded Tifa's package and ran bootleg with no issues. I purchased the game through steam. When I run the game through bootloader, the cmd black box comes up and then just goes away. I can't get the game to start.

I have an Nvidia GPU. I also checked to make sure auto-mount was selected. Anyone have any ideas why this could be happening?

Here's my APP.Log

This is answered in the FAQ: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13212.msg183582#msg183582

Hi there, so I ran the bootleg and everything was installed/unzipped, however, at one stage the ff7config.exe popped up and then said it said it stopped working. So I closed it down and the bootleg carried on.

Once it was done the BootLoader popped up and I made all the configurations and went to start up FF7 and the ff7config.exe popped up again and swiftly stopped working and I had to shut it down. This stopped the game from starting. I assume the reason the ff7 config isn't working is because I have installed FF7 through steam which doesn't use the FF7config.exe unlike the other versions.

I understand the config is necessary for step 9 of the tutorial. Is there a solution for this?

This is answered in the FAQ: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13212.msg183582#msg183582

Ive been reading and reading forums  on how to fix this issue and I seem to have an error that doesnt have a .dll
While running the installation process I had the config.exe crash problem but it let me configure the music files no problem.
I followed the directions listed anyway as I knew I would have to run the config again later.  I just assumed something was acting an ass due to some conflicting program being open or something like that. After installing the mods and opening bootloader the crash happened again when I clicked run ff7.  I read forums on how to solve the issue which led me to the Manager section...
Here is a screen shot of what the errors show. There are 3 counts of the same error happening as it logs whenever the error is encountered and a different error im assuming is important to mention but I will include that info. I will have to copy and paste that error as its too big to show in a screen shot. The antivirus's are also disabled but I still have the windows open in this screen shot. Shouldnt be an issue.
 Screenshot
http://s615.photobucket.com/user/Drumblanket/media/scrnshotconfig.png.html

This is the other error log
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

 My computer specs -

 Alienware X51
 i7 3770 intel processor
 Nvidia GTX 545
 6g ram  64 bit OS
 Windows 7
Steam version of FF7 and have saved it to my d drive.  It is still in my steam library but its not in a program files(86x) folder

If there are any other specs I have failed to mention please ask and I will respond right away.
The crash seems to be a common issue and I see the same error log in the screenshots provided in the forums however it seems the .dll errors
involve nvidia.  Im not seeing any of those errors mentioned in the error log so I'm really at a loss for what to do to solve the issue.
Thank you for your time and concern.

Does FF7Config.exe crash when you try to open it after running Bootleg?

Click on the Details tab and see what it says. I love screenshots btw  :)

I don't think that's the same one. The face is totally different. Pause at 1:53 to see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1_Lq37vKe4#t=113s

That is the Tifa model from Dissidia, ported and modified pretty poorly for FF7. Her legs are bow-legged because the bones are rotated backwards. This model is floating around the internet somewhere, but it would be against the site rules to provide links or support for it.

Honestly, I really need help...

Also...  if I change the settings in the bootleg screen do i have to run bootlader again to apply the changes?
I'm really not that savvy to modding games. Usually I just click subscribe in steam LOL.   The only game ive successfully modified without steam to help was AvP classic 2000 and that was 2 folders dropped into the games main folder.   This is much more advanced than my experience.

Help is on the way! A lot of us generally work during the days, so sometimes waiting 24-48 hours is necessary before we can get around to everyone's questions.

To change settings, you have to start over. This is an installer, not an uninstaller because unfortunately, the file structure doesn't allow for easy reversion. Go to your Control Panel and uninstall FF7Music first, then the game. Then you should clean your registry keys with this before beginning a new installation.

I think I need to add this question to the FAQ  :)

Question - my install is working perfectly, however I was wondering that after playing, if there's something I want to change in the bootleg config, do I have to install it all again with my new changes and will doing this effect my saved games?

Thanks! And thank you for such an amazing modified game!

Hello,

I have tryed to resolve the issue I have : when I try and launch the game with Bootloader, it doesn't... There is a blackscreen as if the game was about to launch but then back again on my desktop.

I have done the solution for DLL problem, but now Windows journal gives me this problem : "A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (FF7.exe)"

I have ATI card. I am running a dual screen with extended desktop but I already tried to deactivate the second screen and I still go the same error.

What can I do ?

When you say "...a blackscreen as if the game was about to launch..." do you mean a black command prompt appears and disappears?

Oh sorry, I almost forgot. Completely delete your old installation folder as it will leave all the leftover mods. Installing back into that folder will cause a mess without deleting the junk first.

I tried the FF7config.exe fix  and I'm still getting the same error. I've gone through a bunch of reinstallations of FF7 and reinstalling bootleg. I got one to work, but it crashed as soon as I hit a battle. I think my antivirus quarantined a battle file. Still trying to install the mods. Are there any conflicts with certain mods that may cause the game to not even start?

Step 8: Once you have downloaded all the red colored files, your mod list should be entirely yellow and green. Now you are ready to install !

IMPORTANT: Disable any Anit-Virus and Firewall software, and close any Internet Browser before continuing.

Click the red button labeled "Run Bootleg" to the right.

So on the tutorial, it suggested to install the steam version of ff7 on D:\Games\Steam.  So does that mean I have to install the entire steam folder on a disc drive? Plus I assume I cant use FF7 BootLoader since the game is installed in my steam folder when it needs to be mounted.

Yeah, I realize this is inconvenient for some people because they may have lots of Steam games already installed. Be my test dummy and try installing as normal, then copying the FINAL FANTASY VII folder into D:\Games\. Make sure Bootleg is pointing to that folder for the game directory before you run it.

You will always need to use FF7Bootloader to run with Bootleg mods. It will install a desktop shortcut for it, so run from that.

I tried disabling my antivirus, firewall, and clearing the registry. I reinstalled the game and tried to do a fresh mod install as well. Everything seemed to be going well. All the mods seemed to install correctly with no errors. I made sure FF7config had my sound device selected, and Aalis custom driver was being recognized. When I start it up, I still get a black cmd box, and then nothing. If I try to run it through FF7music, it just tells me that that ff7.exe stopped working.

I read someone else was having trouble with the latest NVIDIA drivers. I don't know if that could be an issue.

I've got everything downloaded and running however I can't use the post filters without the graphics becoming a complete mess, is there a specific configuration I need to use to run these? I use a Radeon HD 6970 with more than enough memory and all to support it, I can use post processing injectors, fxaa and post processing and hd rendering in any other game that supports it so I am thinking it has to do with the textures I installed or the shaders themselves are somehow corrupted. I have tried running without any forced hardware enhancements through ati catalyst or radeonpro as well and I get the same results.

Check the FAQ about the command prompt pop-up: http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13212.msg183582#msg183582

Hello,

I tried that, but everything is selected as it should be and I got the same problem still. Just to make sure I am clear : the command prompt pop-up appear and disappear, then I can see something telling me about ctr+L (I think) for save games, then my main screen goes black as if the game is launching, then I get back to my desktop.

The postprocessing shaders don't work correctly, as far as anyone here can tell. Maybe they used to.
then my main screen goes black as if the game is launching, then I get back to my desktop.
Please post the contents of the file APP.log (it's a text file just open it and copy the text) in
Code: [Select]
tags. If I had to take a wild shot in the dark you maybe need to just run ff7config.exe and make sure to choose and test your sound output. The custom driver should be already chosen for you in video settings. Test midi too but that's probably fine, too.

Thanks for your quick reply. I went to config.exe and chose custom driver as I didn't do that before. A window appear telling me "Self test passed! You are now ready to use the custom driver. See ff7_opengl.cfg for configuration." As for the sound, the test is passed.
When I try to launch the game I still have the same issue. However there is no more new entry in my APP. It is weird and I am afraid I won't be able to play this game with the modes :(

Are you sure that you have the English version of Steam?
Please refer to in your game folder, if there a "ff7_en.exe" is splashing.
