I'm not familiar with wine or ubuntu.

The Game Converter is a self-extracting rar archive.
You can unpack it with an appropriate decompressor.
The batch file 'FF7_GameConverter_0.11.bat' must be started with admin rights.
However, I do not know if all the commands under Wine work just like in Windows  :P

DONT EVER START WINE WITH ADMIN RIGHTS! EVER!

please run the program from the command line (wine <program> ) and report errors here.
chances are you are missing some dependencies for the program (like perhaps unrar-nonfree to extract or a windows component needed to run it )

Ok Ive gotten the Bootleg to run in both GUI mode and CMD mode using the CMD method:

cd /????/????/Bootleg040
/????/????/Bootleg040>Bootleg.exe    (CMD version)
and
/????/????/Bootleg040>BFE.exe          (GUI version)

Im not sure if the FF7_GameConverter_0.11.bat is doing anything "what does it do when you execute it in a normal windows environment?" I've executed it both from CMD in (win98 mode so as to have no UAC needed) and I've also tried running it from within the Wine version of Task Manager... It upsets me to be able to view the bootleg mod GUI but not be able to apply any of the mods.

Has anyone successfully converted the FF7_GameConverter_0.11.bat to FF7_GameConverter_0.11.exe and (Im not talking about the already existent FF7_GameConverter_0.11.exe.exe) if so please post the link. Also is there a way to Run As Admin under wine without having to sudo wine as its dangerous?

What files does the FF7_GameConverter_0.11.bat change/add and where are they changed/installed?

Thanks

there is not way to run as admin that i know of in wine. im pretty sure the UAC stuff would mean nothing to wine anyway.

if you open the bat file (its just text after all) you can see exactly whats happening and possibly convert the script to a sh script.

I am almost sure, bootleg does not work with Windows 98   :o
My Game Converter I have in this respect not tested, but can not rule out that he would actually run with Win98  :D

Ultimately copied the GC everything from the folder 'data, lang-en' in the 'data' folder, integrates the 1.02 patch adds a Aali's driver and sets the registry correctly.

Bootleg also has its own Game Converter.
If you have the English version of FF7 and the UAC is not active for you, you can dispense with my GC.

I've tried opening the .bat file with a few different text editors and it always comes up empty can anyone post the contents of the .bat so I can sh.

I've tried it all the way up to win8 mode I get a red CMD screen saying that I need to run as ADMIN...I just thought win98 may have been new enough to run it without restrictions.

Ultimately copied the GC everything from the folder 'data, lang-en' in the 'data' folder, integrates the 1.02 patch adds a Aali's driver and sets the registry correctly.

when I extract from the exe.exe I just get a .bat and a folder called sprinkles this has a directory in it called ff7_1.02_eng thats as close as I can find under that directory...

Just realized my extractor errors out and the .bat ends up there but is 0kb as opposed to 63.8...lol all this time still...But I cant get the .bat to extract if anyone can post the .bat thatd be awesome...I have a feeling that if I can just run that .bat that it would be possible to mod FFVII STEAM under linux..

Yes, I also have the presumption that your unpacker not working properly.

FF7_GameConverter_0.11.zip

The query for admin rights located between line 27 and 38 inside the bat.

Just as the picture looks, the script does not work with Wine.
Since I can not help you.

@ sithlord48

Are you able to rewrite the script so that it works under Wine?
You have my express permission for it.

(Maybe it would be better to pack the package in a self-extracting ZIP archive, rather than in RAR ...)

zip might be better some distros don't have rar-nonfree support (not sure if self extracting rar falls under that..)

can you use NSIS for the script? that works really good in wine. i don't know if a linux script would be helpful as i really can only do the file changes the reg changes would assume wine and should work with your current setup . i think the issue is maybe how the bat is accessing the reg? i only think this because those calls seam to return empty strings.

edit: yes i know its not really an installer but i think you can do this mostly with nsis scripts.

Unfortunately, I have not yet dealt further with NSIS.
However, I fear that some commands can not be transferred to NSIS.

i think the best i could do is a script that runs in the install dir and converts it to 98 . basicly your script is really correct as ff7 will always need wine. i am really not sure as to why it fails. on my wine (1.7) it fails to read a version . if i go look in the wine reg for that location the script is looking for i see "Microsoft Windows Xp". the script returns "".

to be more specific my wine is pretending to be XPsp3 with its system root in C:/windows (its real path is ~/.wine/drive_c/windows) i have nothing installed other then FF7 and QtCreator/Gcc/Minigw in wine (yes i build windows binaries with wine). Does it work on a clean windows install ? maybe i need something like VisualC++6  Runtime or some other componante for it to work in wine.

Code: [Select]
REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /V ProductName
returns

Quote
! REG.EXE VERSION 3.0

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
    ProductName REG_SZ  Microsoft Windows XP

Maybe need to write

REG QUERY "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /V ProductName

Does it work on a clean windows install ?
I have an earlier version of GC (I think 0.9) with a fresh XP version tested, without additionally installing anything, there it worked.

maybe i need something like VisualC++6  Runtime or some other componante for it to work in wine.
All commands (except CHOICE) are included in the basic version of XP ...

ill try that can you come on irc? im on now and it would be quicker then checkin here alot were over at #qhimm.com on esper.net

edit:: that does not change the "" for my version. also i have to remove the check for admin part could be part of the problem like i said before i don't know how to do UAE in wine. i would assume it is not an issue as all wine programs run under my user and my user owns the entire wine "drive".

first error is get is : Can't recognize 'CHCP' as an internal or external command, or batch script.  seams to be line 40 or 41

Obviously Wine processed the commands other than MSDOS.
Someone who is familiar with both would have to be able to port the script.
Unfortunately, my knowledge about Wine is NULL  :(

If there is anyone here who is willing to port the script, I do not mind as long as I'm mentioned in a footnote.
