All I'm saying is that we, as in everyone in this forum, havn't the slightest idea how the battle animations are stored, and finding them would be a major breakthrough.

Au contraire! phaeron essentially figured all that out 2 years ago. What's annoyed me is that no one with the skill has bothered to release an editor. Sure, a little hacking and futzing around is still necessary, but the hard part's already been done.

Archive / Using the high quality Cloud model in game?
« on: 2004-04-16 23:08:58 »
You need Alhexx's Battle File Database, a copy of Ficedula's LGP Tools, and a lot of patience. Basically you'll have to find the original Cloud's model data and the high-res Cloud's data. Then you swap them.

(although i want to know what tifa says to cloud.......>.<)

If you just want to know what they say, fire up Cosmo and view all the text in ghotin_2, gldgate, astage_a, astage_b, bigwheel, bwhlin, and chorace2 (in that order.)
Some of it won't be in order (since they revisit some of those scenes in between the drama) and you'll miss some videos, but it's better than nothing.

Yeesh, can't you take a hint?! It was more like a flat out command.

Next time use the Edit your own post option. Do not multi-post. Ever.

Welcome to the Forums Anakin. We will be watching your career with great interest...

Please don't bring back dead topics like this if you don't have something to add to the discussion. It's in the rules.

Yes .lzs files are compressed. If ficedula's app isn't working for you (makes sense--it's designed for files from the PC version), the only other one I know of is a tool written by M4v3R. I can't find a working link, though, so you'll just have to hope he posts one (no whining/begging, please. I don't have it.)

the highly detailed Cloud and half-Jessie models are never used in the game.

Quote from: Contra
that model was used in the scene where you and Jessie are standing in front of the monitor, and she explains the Midgar rail system to you. I've seen it in the PC version, using I believe Ifalna. There is one of Cloud in the same scale.

After a quick Techdoc consultation, it looks like Contra is correct. Here's proof:
The train monitor location is rootmap.
rootmap loads the following two 3D models:
clgd.hrc -high res. Cloud
cmde.hrc -high res. Jessy upper torso

Not a bad idea. If doing so didn't bring up all sorts of legal red flags, I almost would. =D

Archive / How to run the bike chase scene at normal speeds

Isn't it possible to cap the frame rate of the .lgp archive for the bike scene?

:erm: Unless I've missed something big, the problem is that there isn't a single frame rate cap *anywhere* in the entire FF7 engine. Besides, you wouldn't be likely to find something like that in an archive.

I found a neat little app called CPU Killer

I'm pretty sure someone here figured this out a long time ago. Still, bringing it up again probably doesn't hurt. I'd recommend trying Turbo (completely free) instead of CPU Killer, though.

what is nv17??

Now there's a question I haven't seen in about two years.
The short answer is this:
nv17 == all nVidia chips in the GeForce 4 MX series
nv25 == all nVidia chips in the GeForce 4 TI series

So you have an nv25. Which is a good thing, since nv17 cards aren't as good as nv25 (no nfiniteFX-engine, no directX 8 support, etc.)

Based on this info, when you hear people talking about nv30, I trust you'll be able to figure out what cards they're referring to.

Phew, that's a relief. In that case, if you want, you can send me another save (from a little before the crash) with Tifa and Barret in your party, and I can send you a new save with correct stats.

Thanks, that one's fine. We may have a problem, though. I didn't realize you were using a French copy of FF7. Most of the save structure is the same, but my version of ff7.exe is different (U.S.). I had to jump through all kinds of hoops to get my game to recognize your save without crashing. I eventually did it, although now I have a hunch my new save won't work with your version. =/

Assuming it does somehow work, stats for all your characters, except for Cloud's, shouldn't be the same. Sorry, there wasn't much I could do about that.

What we *really* need is a save editor that can edit international FF7 saves... Then we could fix whatever's wrong.

Troubleshooting / FF7 - Editing Monster HP/MP
« on: 2004-03-24 03:19:38 »
Why not memory hacking? I have no idea if there's a "program of choice" as it were, but back in my day we used gamehack.
It's a little app developed by a pair of guys from Germany. It was discontinued about 5 years ago, and now some unknown Spanish person is mirroring the site.
Heck, if memory hacking's good enough for Terence Ferguson...

90
Well, good luck. I'm certainly not going to stand in the way of anyone who wants to try. =D

AFAIK, that's because there aren't any. =/

I've taken a look at this forum, but i can't seem to find any topic regarding this matter. Would it be possible? Have other people talked/discussed about this? Has it already been done? If so, probably only for the PC version since it looks easier to manipulate?

Most anything of this nature is theoretically possible. It doesn't mean it's worth doing or will happen, though. If you were going to do it, a PC mod would be much easier since there are already crude editors/means of converting. Still, you're looking at an insane amount of work.

You're also looking at problems of proportion... The field locations are all scaled to fit the little hobbit-sized super deformed characters. If you somehow stick in the more accurately proportioned battle models, they're going to look like giants (sort of like Gandalf in Bag End.) There's ways around that, of course, but all of it just adds up to being too much work.

is it possible to apply a texture to it though?

If the battle files have some sort of resource file in their structure, than yes. For the field models this is ridiculously easy, but I have no idea if it's possible with battle models--I've barely worked with them.

i mean, most models i could probably make slightly higher poly and put them in-game, but i hate vertex colouring.

...which is probably why you haven't seen anyone else do this, either.

Archive / Immortal - Sephiroth Patch
« on: 2004-03-13 02:13:45 »
Yeah, ok, I *thought* you hadn't made it. I think the guy's name is in the readme that comes with the file. Anyway, all the Sephiroth patch does is swap the Sephiroth/Cloud data in char.lgp and switch all text instances of Sephiroth<->Cloud. That's it.

I don't know why The SaiNt doesn't want to release his improved version (swaps the battle models), but he doesn't.

EDIT: sorry for resurrecting an old topic. >_<

I have old docs and stuff from the forthcoming FF7PC Techdoc I can dig out. I can't do it right now, but maybe in a few days.
But yeah, the Script was what we never figured out. Cosmo handles Dialog, backgrounds/Palette, and music, mainly.
The SaiNt's figured out some more (not sure if he wants them made public), and I've done a little with another section.
Trouble is that, IIRC, the PC field files are mostly different than the PSX ones. For instance, isn't the way backgrounds are stored completely different?

You too? I beat Jenova-Synthesis on Level 51, no Accessory, Bronze Bangles for everyone, as well as initial weapons. It was a verrrry close shave though @_@.

Yeah, the first time I beat the game, Cloud was 52, and everyone else was in the low 40s. Sephiroth took *hours* to beat. And then the game crashed during the second ending movie. =P So I just watched it from the disc. Only problem was I missed the last Cloud/Sephiroth fight without knowing it.

I think the timer updating really slow thing is CPU-related, not video card. Running in software mode, I've experienced this on the following machines: P3 Win98SE, P3Win2K, and P4WinXP. It makes timed events really easy (like the 10 minute countdown on the first mission, because it becomes more like a 2 hour--real time--countdown.)

Edit: Oh, forgot to add: In FF7 menu texts were in .exe file. Try to search for them there.

So there. =P

Sorry, no update on bug testing yet--I've been busy with some other stuff.

Yeah, guess I'm an "access of evil" or something.

...and I'm sure you know, but if you don't want people crawling your server, an index.html isn't going to be enough. That just stops the script kiddies.
