Hm, I begin to wonder what happens if there is only a limited amount of air in front of the plane... does it create vacuum? Will the plane take off? Or will it start dancing Macarena? :P
Okay, enough of the jokes.

I agree with Jari's, Okotoshi's and Ooine's view.
Initially, I thought that the plane would not lift up, too. However, as you said, the belt does not affect the air, no matter how fast and in which direction it moves. Therefore, I see no reason why the plane should not take off...

I would like to hear (/read) halkun's view on this topic, as he has been working on an aircraft carrier some time ago...

Completely Unrelated / Re: Do you read?
« on: 2007-01-02 09:41:31 »
I do not read much - well, and it's a long time ago since I read a book.
I really enjoyed Ken Follet's books - although I just read Eye Of The Needle and Jackdaws. I also have The Third Twin lying around on my book shelf, but I never managed to start reading it.

I think my favorite book is George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four.

As for my time when I was in school: Bernhard Schlink's The Reader was a quite interesting book, too.

 - Edit -
Maybe I should also mention the most boring book I have ever read (in school, of course):
Bertolt Brecht's Mother Courage and Her Children...

« on: 2006-12-23 13:51:16 »
Well, if you think that you are able to do this...

The problem is that FFX/FFX-2 uses a completely different model format - they are skinnned, and not cut into pieces as the FF7 models.
If you really want to cut the FFX-2 models into pieces, then you may have a chance to import them.

Good luck. :)

Yeah but I was talking about stamcell research in General, It's usually legal (like australia) and then the babies arent snatched away. I do not agree with the mob in the article or any of those ways, but I am FOR stamcell research.
Now this is something completely different.

We were discussing the special illegal case that (most probably) happened in that hospital.
There's a difference between "babys who are made for this purpose" and stealing someone's children.

Somehow, the topic reminds me of Prey.

I'd don't see the problem, they don't even know they are alive or dead, they pretty much know nothing anyway

Hm, now it seems to make sense:
Maybe they have also "homogenised" your brain in the hospital after your car accident? :P
</flame>

<opinion>
Well, I'm not sure in what condition your kidneys are, but let's assume that yours are okay.
Image when you go out some night and get kidnapped and got one of your kidneys removed... (Note: This really happened to a friend of my dad a few years ago)
Someone who has cancer would be (probably) saved. But you may die.

Now imagine, someone who has much money is blind. Since you are able to read the posts on this forum, yours seem to be okay.
You get kidnapped and got your eyes cut out.
Someone who was blind is now able to see. But now you are blind.

The thing that you mark as "okay" is also called Parasitism. It is not like healing someone - it's like taking away from one person and giving it to another person.
Of course, it's okay for you as long as you are the one who receives, and not the one who gets slaughtered.

Quote from: ChaosControl
Wow, I didnt'think there where babies who could think on that leven instead of just living instinctively.
I don't really care about babies being murderen so we can (possibly) help older people who have a concious and are developed enough to think.

I'd don't see the problem, they don't even know they are alive or dead, they pretty much know nothing anyway
Well, you're right. The baby does not care about if it was killed or not.

But there's one important point you forget: The parents. They do care about whether the baby lives or not.

If I was a father whose baby was slaughtered like this, believe me, you don't want to imagine what I would do to the hospital staff.
And to the rest of the mafia who is responsible for this.
(...hm, if you take all the mafia members, who are responsible for that, and kill and cook them - that would be enough meat to save hundrets of thousands of starving children in Africa...)

Quote from: ChaosControl
I'd don't see the problem, they don't even know they are alive or dead, they pretty much know nothing anyway =/
Hm, your life theory seems to be "Kill yourself and you won't have any problems anymore!".
That's a nice idea, but it's the wrong way.

I suggest that everyone calms down a bit. I know that this topic is a quite ugly one, and I know that (almost) everyone (including me) disagrees with ChaosControl's option, but:

Oh hell...
As if GOD himself/herself/itself would come down from heaven to sit in front of a PC and write some code or write some more character descriptions as the one halkun posted above...

I personally *love* when people say things like "let's pray for this and that". Instead of sitting around and praying that things will get better, one should better move his/her/its ass and do something about it...
(Yeah, you guessed it - I'm atheist)

Oh hell, I really hate when discussions turn into something like this...

Quote from: Forum Rulez
  • Try to understand what people are trying to say if they have a different opinion to you, or are trying to give you some friendly advice.  Shouting back at them really doesn't help at all, you just get less respect and chances are your opinions will be ignored in the future.
  • Everyone interprets things differently than others depending on their culture, life experiences, and many other factors. If somebody posts a message that could be considered insulting or offensive to you, don't immediately flame them.

Believe me, I hate closing threads because of offensive discussions, so please do us all a favor and calm down, all of you.
What happens in this topic is nothing more than pissing at each others legs - it won't help anything to argue here any longer.

In German, there's a idiom named "Der Klügere gibt nach.", which should be "The smarter one gives way" (translation by Google™) in English.
Therefore, I give you the chance to show who is the smarter one here, and I'm leaving this topic open. If the flaming continues, it will be locked.

If you released something then don't get butthurt if someone wants to add your stuff to a megafile.

Oh, I guess this is called piracy.
(Athough it's freeware in this case)

So, since noone explicitly said that (s)he did refuse to give permission for reuploading files, I see no reason to lock this thread.
As for Srethron, I didn't see and explicit "no" in your post, so therefore, I'm leaving this thread open.

This will be reason enough to lock this topic.

As for the PStwo issue:
I have one of those things standing in my room (if I remember correctly, it's a Rev.12 model - the first "small" PS2 model).

When I bought it I have been thinking about modding it, and after reading dozens of forum entries about modding the PStwo, it seemed to me that the laser of the DVD drive burns when you remove the case and start the console. Unfortunately, I do not remember, what exactly was the reason for this, but I think it had to do with wrong voltage supply for the optical laser or something like this (I'm not an expert at this).

However, my PStwo is still unmodded, and I never had any problems with the laser or something. :)

Your fetish for resurrecting topics is going on my nerves.
This has been the third time.

Quote from: Forum Rulez
Don't resurrect old topics. When people stop posting in a topic, it's usually a sign that everything of value has been said. Thus, if nobody's posted in a topic for more than a week or two, consider it dead and don't post in it (unless you have an important follow-up or question exactly on-topic, and the topic is still recent). If you post just a comment on something somebody said ... chances are no-one will care because it's been a while since everything was posted.

Before you tell me that your answer is "exactly on topic", take a look at Boolean algebra, and figure out what "(A v B) ^ C" means.

Is there a way to get FFVIII to go to atleast 1024*768? or even stretch it?  ( instead of having a huge border with the res. )

The utlitiy Garden - Downloaded it looking through it.. got confused. not really a real readme.
Garden is not a readme - it's a source code!

Quote from: Spre
What was used to create the source files?
A text editor, I guess.

Quote from: Spre
and what is the best way to compile?
Using a compiler.

Quote from: Spre
I can;t just toss it on ym  *nix box n compile, as It most likely wont run in a windows enviroment that way.

I think that what I'm posting here is a "question exactly on-topic, and the topic is still recent" (...)

I didn't say that your question was off-topic, but the topic has been dead for several months. Besides, this topic already has 5 pages, therefore most people will not remember what is written on the last 4 ones, and even more are not willing to read those pages again.
Therefore, if you have to add something really useful (and in this case you have) then you should post a new thread and post a link to the old one.

Quote from: miracle.flame
We should focus on the problem and not add useless hassling posts like these.
If you think that a moderative post is useless, well then... I'll create a new topic for you  :-P

Quote from: miracle.flame
Searching through the forum is quite difficult because there are too many threads on the same subject and you can't be sure what you've missed if it's not in the main thread.
As I stated before, do you think that it's easier to find it in the last 5 pages of the main thread?
Like I said, simply leave a link to the original topic and everything is fine.

« on: 2006-11-08 16:25:40 »
First:
You should at least say what game you are talking about.
(Well, taking a look at your problem description, and thinking about that I had the same problem, too, I guess you're talking about FF7 :D)

Second:
Yes, you are missing a codec.
The reason why the screen stays black when you start the game is that your pc is not able to play the Square® intro. The reason why it stays black after selecting "New Game" is that you pc is not able to play the game intro video.

Unfortunately, I don't remember which codec you should install...
Use the search function and search for "codec".
Good luck.

Well, I just remember the Resident Evil 4 situation in Germany.

First, when the game came out exclusively for the Gamecube, the german version was cut (it did not contain those nasty mini-games).
That's why my friend bought a british copy from eBay :)

But then, when the PS2 version of the game came out, it was uncut...
This is not directly a cross-platform issue, but the problem, that made many gamers in Germany unhappy, was the difference between the PS2 and the GC version.

I haven't read James Pond's post completely, so I missed that this issue was already mentioned...
