Figured I'd let you know before you get in trouble, don't double post use the modify button at the top of your posts to edit in new info.

I would personally recommend Blank as the name of the editor, not a main character, but he is the first to truly save Zidane, Steiner and Garnet by sacrificing himself to keep them alive.

Sorry for no updates, been down with a major sinus infection. But I'm back up and running now, picked up a new computer so I can get to work with the UDK (since the other one had crap for materials to learn the system with), and playing through FFVII again to ensure I don't leave any part of it out on my list.

Give it a bit, first upload didn't finish off properly, had a net hiccup when I uploaded and noticed the file size was wrong, almost done re-uploading it now.

Edit: Should be up and ready to go.

I think it's supposed to be raw Mako waiting to be refined.

If you get pissed off at someone and want to blow their brains out, get on a game, like Delta Force Xtreme 2, jump on a server, and imagine that one of the people there is the person you're pissed at. Then go trigger happy, you'd be amazed at how well it helps to deal with the stress.

Hosted on my site, will be able to download from so long as my site remains up your file will remain up, if you need to update and I don't have your current release then let me know and I'll upload it.

Amen to that brother, I'm a storyline gamer, if a game has no story to it, yeah I might play it when I'm just that bored, but if it has horrible story to it, I don't touch it at all (WoW in particular, killed the Warcraft storyline).

Would be possible, of course, though I was thinking of keeping a third person view for a better field of vision, and so you can watch your character. All it would require doing is altering the camera angle during play and removing the majority of your model from view so that it's not being rendered needlessly. Hands/weapon and legs (should you be looking down) would still be rendered as you could still see them, but the rest of the body really wouldn't need to be rendered.

Yes, violent video games can provoke aggression in some, but for others, like me, it is a medication for aggression. I have psychologists orders NOT to quit playing violent video games because of my history of anger issues, and this is coming from an ARMY psychologist. Getting pissed off and want to kill someone? Jump in a game and do it! There are a lot of people out there like me who self-medicate on violent video games, it is a much healthier way for one to deal with anger compared to the alternative (getting a gun and going "postal").

He's said before that there is no "release date" currently. Everyone who is working on it is doing so in their free time and when they feel like working on it. As such there is no way to tell when it will be done, now if you want it to be done quicker then come up with the money to pay them to work on it as an actual job so they can put their other jobs on hold. (joke there)

Eh, the retractable controller was what I got because that's what the Wal-Mart here had for a PC USB controller that wasn't an X-Box controller (Sorry X-Box fans, but I hate those damn things). To use the PS3 controller, you need to get some custom drivers for it, you can get them here, if you're running Vista/7 64bit you'll need to run windows in test mode since the drivers are not digitally signed, there's a tool here to make it easy to do. With the driver, if you have bluetooth on your computer, you can even use it wirelessly, but, it will remain "connected" to the PC, so if you want to use it on the PS3 again you'll have to turn on the PS3 and attach the controller to it via the USB cable to reset the bluetooth.

Actually, most countries already severely limit the type of content which goes into their games. Such as Germany banning the sales of Command & Conquer: Generals due to the fact that it contained the Battle for Baghdad while the German government was against the American invasion of Iraq. As it stands now, the only reason retarded kids get their hands on violent video games is because of their even more retarded parents. I.E. 12 year old kid wants Rated-M game, parent buys Rated-M game not looking at the content. Kid plays Rated-M game with their own limited mental capacity to comprehend good from bad. Kid proceeds to recreate Rated-M game in reality because some equally retarded bully picked on kid. Kid gets caught and blames Rated-M game for actions.

It's not the gaming industry's fault that there are kids that take games too far, and the same can be said of movies. In fact, the real culprit here would be the parents who buy their children games well beyond their mental abilities. If your child can't understand the difference between reality and fiction, then it's your fault, not the games. The ESRB clearly labels what games are recommended for what ages, that rating is placed there for the parents to read, and it's not their fault if the parent is too retarded to pay attention.

I say we all storm the governor's mansion in California and play all the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies on a PA system as psychological warfare, complete with signs saying something like "Violent video games stemmed from violent movies".

Meh, upgrade to 64bit windows ya lazy bum! Kidding, but have you tried running in compatibility mode? If not, try it, if that doesn't work then you can always add it to the registry manually. To do that you simply need to put the following in a .txt file and save it as a .reg file...

Code: [Select]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Graphics]

You may also want to check the pseudo-crash log that it gives when it crashes and any actual crash if it saved one (which it should if it gives the popup)

If you want to use familiar controls you can pick up a game pad set up like a Playstation controller, here's one I had and used forever till I got my PS3, now I use my PS3 controller hooked up to my computer through USB. Works pretty good, and you can configure it as you see fit.

Working on all of that in my list still, but to answer your questions...
Are you planning on starting the game like it actually started?
Yes, keeping the same story the way it was originally done.
Will the world map be an obsolete way to get from town to town? If so, have you considered what to implement instead?
No, you will still have the world map.
Will all towns/feilds be the same (recreated to look like the original)?
Yes, though due to the fact that the maps are not fully 3D it will require quite a bit of imagination to flesh them out into a fully 3D environment.
Are you planning on implementing any new areas?
Not currently, no.
What will moving around be like in The Highwind/ The Tiny Bronco/ Chocobo/ Hovercraft be like? New or old?
I was thinking of using a "cockpit" style view when moving around in the vehicles, showing you actually moving through the glass and such. In the case of the Chocobo, more or less showing the same as it is now, you riding it. I was also entertaining the idea of riding a Chocobo in battle similar to the way you do in Final Fantasy Tactics, increasing your movement speed.

Like I said, I'm working on compiling a list of all the aspects of the current game and how I'm seeing them in my head. That's the first and easiest step, but with how many different parts of the game there are, this alone takes a while of typing, especially when it comes to attempting to put my thoughts into words to describe them.

IF you have the original, and have lost one of the disks or it has become too damaged to read, you can download an ISO of that disk and that disk alone from torrent files legally, I won't tell you where to go, but you will want to find the original FF7 torrent and only download the files you need. I also recommend making ISO backups of the other disks to ensure that this does not happen in the future with any others.

Here's what I have wrote down in regards to the combat system, the way that I see it in my head. Mind you it's not entirely complete yet but it does cover some of what you were talking about.

General Battle:

AI Role options for secondary party members, which can be changed via Ally Orders during combat, or set through menu. Basic AI pre-battle would include:
Front Line: Getting up close to them and attacking, to draw the enemy attacks.
Artillery: Attacking with long ranged attacks and drawing back if an enemy closes in.
Support: Primarily uses non-damaging actions to "buff" the party or "de-buff" the enemies and heal damage taken, such as haste, slow, barrier, cure.
Defender: Moves to defend weaker allies, engaging enemies that target them.
During battle the above commands could be changed and the following would be added:
Focus Attacks: Focus offensive actions against targeted enemy.
Retreat: Similar to Artillery, but would fall back in an attempt to flee the battle.
Defend: Toggles a defender role for targeted ally.

Item and Spells can be used by a system of split "quick bars", twelve options on each quick bar (first six slots containing spells, second six slots containing items). These can be switched to the next series of quick bars one side at a time or both sides at a time and the order of each can be changed before battle. Each one spell or item can be set as "active" for easy use, or each item could be used by pressing the corresponding key.

While in battle the PHS system would not be accessible however should the main controlling character be KO'ed, manual control would be switched to one of the remaining, conscious, party members chosen by you.

Targeting controls would be able to cycle through enemy or ally targets, one command would cycle enemy targets while another would cycle ally targets. Spells or items used would take effect on the active target (ally or enemy).

And yes, I was thinking of game pad support, here's what I was thinking for one possible configuration.

Gamepad Battle Control Layout:

The following commands use a Playstation 3 controller layout as an example, this would be the default control layout.

L1: Cast active Magic                         R1: Use active item
L2: Defend                                         R2: Attack/Limit Break
Up: Previous full quick bar                 Triangle: Target next enemy
Left: Next Spell                                  Square: Target next ally
Right: Next Item                                Circle: Ally 1 commands
Down: Next full quick bar                   Cross: Ally 2 commands
Left Analog stick: Movement              RIght Analog stick: Camera
L3: Unused                                         R3: Unused
Select: Both Ally Commands               Start: Pause

Second Edit: Corrected myself on the quick  bar, used for spells, not materia.

Double posting is against the rules here, I'm no mod but just letting you know. You could copy the FMV files from your disks to your hard drive to where they're not being read from the disks. You'll just have to make a slight edit to the registry entry. To do this goto Start > Run > regedit > ok then look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII and modify the entry MoviePath to point to the directory on your hard drive where you moved the movies. Say if you moved them into C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\Movies you would change the entry to point to there.

If it still hangs up simply look for the FMV file that's hanging up and attempt to view it in an external player, if it hangs up there then you have a corrupted video file and need to either find another to replace it with or create a "dummy" file to skip it. If it comes down to the dummy file, simply create a .txt file, and change the name to whatever the video file was, for example if the bike video was the one causing the problems you'd rename the .txt file to bike.avi and overwrite the original. This would create a blank video in place of the first and allow you to more or less skip the FMV sequence.

Hence the reason for using a battle system similar to CC, you can stumble upon them and get the preemptive strike, or they could ambush you and give you a good slap on the behind. However, I was still going to make it real time, meaning you can chain attacks and cast spells without worrying about an ATB or anything like that, Slow would actually slow your movements down and Haste would speed them up. Outside of battle you could use non-damaging spells as normal, but adding in a few extras in that such as Haste to get around quicker on foot. When I get my table of the way I see the various game parts playing out in my head I'll post it to let others see a little more clearly what I see in my head.

Oh, I love the game, and what I'm talking about is based on a third person perspective using hind sight as I've beaten the game more times then I can count and have almost memorized everything in the game, but it's still fun to play for me and is a lot like watching a favorite movie again and again when you already have it memorized word for word, scene for scene (I'm guilty of that as well).

How many people do you know will actually read through those?
