Hello guys  :)

I'm actually here because I need your help about ff8 walkmeshes..

The thing I need is a tool or a method to obtain somehow the walkmesh into a 3D format or at least a list of all the vertices.

I read many posts but actually I don't have the skills to understand everything..

Anyway from what I know The Walkmesh Data is contained in the .ID files..

Actually the only tool I found which seems  to be able to read the WalkMesh is Deling by Myst6re (Thanks for that man  :) ) but the only thing that tool allow to do  is to see /and maybe change the triangles coordinates one by one ..

The thing I need is to have all coordinates written down toghether...or better a script/tool to import it in blender 3dsMax or Maya etc or export it into any file format (.obj or whatever)

Till now I copied vertices reading them one by one from deling but I can't really continue this way..



I'm gonna rebuild in 3Ds Max few enviroments from FF8 and I wanted to use the original walkmesh for reference but I need a faster way to import them in a 3D editor and unfortunately I'm not a programmer so I need your help.. plz  :cry:

Hey guys, are we at the stage of being able to replace the textures on any of the character models yet? If so, can someone please explain how to do it? And if not, can someone tell me how I can help? I'm a software engineer and this project really interests me!  :D
When replacement of textures and model of city/gardens will be avaiable I'd be glad to make new ones and share them :)

Maybe the work I'm doing could help you whith the Walkmesh/Texture-Overlay function we talked about..

What I actually did was:
-Open the fire Cavern entrance file
-Copy each f*kin* vertices coordinates of each point of the walkmesh one by one and placing them in 3Ds Max
-Rebuild the walkmesh Plane
-Created a camera and alligned it to the camera position showed by the editor (but seems wrong or I didn't actually understood something..)
-Created another camera and now I'm tryng to use a custom texture (positioned in front of the camera) and try to get the right position and angle for the camera manually..

here's a screen that could help to understand my method


If anyone could tell me how to export the walkmesh coordinates into a single text file (or better how to export the walkmesh to a 3D file format) I'd be very thankful to him/her..

They appear to be solid meshes without skeletons. There are a total of 33 models.

I'm not 100% sure about this but it's possible those models dont need more than 1 main bone because they just rotate the mesh and never deform..All but the two gardens (they bot have 2 rings which continuously rotatate even when the garden is not moving.

Yes i know..especially during the Sorceress' Parade..

Anyway I find out where are city textures..

after some days of research this is what i was able to find out :

The World textures are contained in the world/dat/wmsetit.obj and textl.obj files.. here some samples:

in textl.obj i found 20 textures file containing world/city textures like these:



and nothing else

In wmsetit there were a lot of textures :
many smaller versions of textl file textures like this:


the world map:

All(not sure) vehicles textures (included, gardens, airship, cars, trains and ships) like these:






In same folder there is a file which seems not containing textures and maybe containing 3d models:
-wmx.obj (30.060 kb)

If anyone has info about it please let me know.

I'm not sure about this but FF8 still keeps some secrets models hidden somewhere and i hope that what I'm about to post can be usefull somehow..

G.F. Models (Siren Shiva Eden Carbuncle.. etc) NPC and Terrain / City Models still can't be viewed or extracted whith any tool (but if i missed it plz tell me!) so I tried to extract them whith another method but my success was only 66,66666666% v.v

I used 3d ripper DX  epsx and 3ds max for this but the problem is that the what you see is just flat (there is no depth at all..)



If anyone think these flat 3D screens can be helpful to understand any still mysterious file format of the game just ask me and I'll be happy to help!

Just 1 more thing..

Whith same tool i extracted some textures from the Balamb Garden ground model (i'm quite sure) and other from battle 3d enviroments..

here some examples:








I extracted lot of things whith other tool but i'm quite sure i'd never seen these textures before..

Just a question maybe someone here can help me..

I'm looking for a tool (or a method) that let me extract G.F. models (not enemy but G.F. you don't fight like Shiva Quetzal Carbuncle etc..), NPC models, 3D world and/or 3D battle enviroments.

It doesn't matter "how" i obtain these things so even a "3d-Screen-Like" method is ok for me (if it works).

I know this maybe could sound like a sort of weird request but.. it's possible to extract the walk mesh in any 3D format (.obj?)..
They could be really usefull for my project..

I decided to start re-modeling them by myself  :evil:


Here my first attempt about Quetzal (remember it's still WIP!)



I'm a newbie in 3d-modeling (just start a week ago) but I hope to learn soon how to produce good 3d models  :-)

Hello Everybody  ;D

I just started to play ffvii and I decided to try to make a new version of FFVII intro using some scenes from the Tech demo and then share whith you but I have a problem..

I can't find an HQ version of the Tech demo for ps3.. someone got that video in HD? 720p or higher quality for example?

and even i saw some videos whith cloud on a train in CG but I don't know where they come from.. ( http://www.gamefront.com/files/New+opening7z/;13753102;/fileinfo.html )
I'd like to find the original scene in HD..

I hope someone can help me ^^

I'll use After Effects for the editing and i read somewhere that the video should be 1280x960 and 15 fps according to the (Aali's?) patch for hd movies.. if not right or incomplete plz tell me (I'm not sure about codec..)  :roll:

TimViewer (NOT TeamViewer) can view every texture into an executable. Credits goes to Colly.
the problem is that I'm looking for the models and I dont need the textures  :'(

I already extracted backgrounds from ff8.exe

To my knowledge the GF models that you don't battle against (like siren) are contained in the .exe
Which tool should I use for extracting files from ff8.exe?

We'll start whith a Demo and if the Demo will be appreciated and other ff8 fan like me and my friends will join the project we'll probably make a complete game..

You extracted the archive before right? I am working on a similar project too but because of (lots of) issues like this one, I almost gave up. Until someone help me out. Well, no matter at all.

No, it's pretty good, but what is your native language?
italian  :-)

And yes I used unmass or garden for extraction.. i don't remember atm  :-P

I'm having trouble with NPC models too..

I googled a bit and it seems to be depending by bitrun version.. the best version should be 0.86 alpha 1 but i can't find it anywhere..
I noticed that depending on the version I use i can preview different files.. no sense XD
But now I've found Texture (no model obviously) for Siren and other missing G.F.  8)

Anyway what's your project about? I'm curious  ;D

Hello guys I'm new here.

I'm developing whith some friends a little project and I found in this forum a lot of wonderful stuffs.

I succeeded in exporting most of the combat model and all the background images from the game and movie clips..and last (few minutes ago) NPCs..

my problem is whith G.F. models.

I found for example the Ifrit boss model and model from all G.F. you can fight before obtain them..
what about other GFs? Where and how can I extract for example Shiva , Siren , Eden etc..(I'd like export animation too if possible..)

The only thing i found are those files from folder battle:
mag184_d.dat (99kb)
mag184_e.dat (56kb)
mag184_f.dat (1kb)
mag184_g.dat (1kb)
mag184_h.dat (98kb)
mag184_i.dat (1kb)


in mag184_d.dat (99kb) i found these textures(seems to be texture for the model):
texture 0
texture 1
texture 2
texture 3

and in mag184_h.dat (98kb) i found these:

Text1
which are supposed to be textures for ice effects of Shiva's attack

well.. i guess in mag184_e.dat(56kb) there is something interesting but I was not able to find out what and I hope someone in this forum can  :|

Aniway i found similar groups of files which seems to be related whith G.F. animation:
mag186.. .dat should be Odin
mag190.. .dat should be Doomtrain
mag217.. .dat should be Gilgamesh (not sure)
mag325.. . dat Odin and Gilgamesh (i guess this is related to Odin's death animation..)

I found even Quezacotl textures but no model or animation in files related to mag115:

mag115_h.00(65kb)
mag115_h.01(66kb)
mag115_h.02(9kb)
mag115_h.03(34Kb)
mag115_h.04(17Kb)
..until..
mag115_h.20(13kb)
mag115_h.21((33Kb)
mag115_h.22(96kb)

but i found something only in files .00 , 01 , 02 ,03 ,04 ,06 , 09 , 11 , 13 , 14 , 17 , 18 , 21 (the following textures)









even in this case some files have a mysterious content for example mag115_h.22(96kb)


I hope someone can help me  :'(
