[FF7-FF8] Skipping non-FMV story scenes
« on: 2019-07-04 10:59:59 »
Has anyone ever worked on skipping story scenes?
How hard is it?

I only play FF8 but I guess this is wanted in every FF game.
Especially the most boring scenes (when replaying), like the orphanage flashbacks in FF8.
Having a skip button would be invaluable.
Frame skipping / emulators' speed up are not really the same.

I've done it a bit in FF8; the difficulty depends on the complexity of the scene. When skipping ahead, you need to make sure that a) the player ends up in the correct place (may involve field changes), and b) all related variables that are altered during the scene are updated as necessary. Some kind of option for whether to skip or not tends to be a good idea as well.

I still want this, ahaha

I don't know how you guys can endure manually going through the dialogues when e.g. you only want to test a gameplay mod. Speeding up the game is not the same, and it looks ridiculous, visually.
