Might be off topic but this is what i remember of my past.
Well, I've had four pc's throughtout my PC life. My first was am XT with those 3 colour displays. At that time, it was wow, 3 colours. It's one on those PC's you have to boot with a boot disc and with 640k of RAM. Then, came my 486SX PC. It had a 1X CD Drive. Now that was power. Next came my Intel 166Mhz Processor with the all powerful S3 Virge Video Card. Hehe, I played FF7PC on it in software mode! 2nd time playing FF7PC, i used a AMD 300Mhz processor with an Nvidia TNT video card. Of late, im using my new 1000 Ghz Athlon with the same TNT video card. Intending to get a geforce later though!

16.
My birthday is on Pearl Harbor Day. That's enough for me. (Who cares that I was born almost 40+ years after it actually happened.)

 Well, if you're going to go for something that extreme, of course your PC will die a fiery death.

I'd do the same with my one and only PC (P166), except it's a laptop/notebook.   Don't even know how to open the thing.

The SaiNt: Oh, old computers. I've had few of those myself.  :)

http://gamma.nic.fi/~mikkohoo/peijoonit/svi728.htm" TARGET=_blank>Spectravideo SVI-728 MSX
Lots of cool games by Konami. Very good Basic (if compared to C-64). 3.58 MHz.  :)

http://www.obsoletecomputermuseum.org/amiga500.html" TARGET=_blank>Commodore Amiga 500
Nice comp, but troubled by massive piracy. No less than 4096 colors, although usage of so-called HAM graphics was very rare. Has some excellent games, like Stunt Car Racer, Dungeon Master etc.

My 1st PC: 386DX@25 MHz. 4 MB's of RAM and 52 MB hard drive with 19 ms seek time (it was really fast). 256 KB SVGA graphics gard. Sound Blaster added later.

2nd PC: AMD 486@120 MHz. 16 MB RAM, 1 GB hard drive, 1 MB S3 Trio 64. Same Sound Blaster. 4X CD-ROM added later.

3rd PC: P200MMX (overclocked to 250), 96 MB RAM, 3.8 GB disk, Hercules Dynamite 128 and later Matrox Millennium 2 + Voodoo. SB 16 and 4X CD-ROM. SCSI CD-ROM and CD-R added later. Used as server nowadays.

4th PC: Celeron 300A@472 (or 495), 128 MB, 18 GB, cheap 8 MB TNT, later GeForce 2 GTS, SB Live!, same SCSI stuff except DVD-drive added.

Amy, you obviously havent tried one of those 3d accelerator cards have you? If you try the nvidia patch and play in hardware mode. You'll see fast. Now the motorcycle game is too fast to play on my system.

Amy: Okay, well my mistake!

Anyway, I don't find why FF8PC requires more processing power than FF7PC. I mean their both based on the same system, right?

BTW, Qhimm you still havent told us your age!
Come on, no harm done right?

The FF8PC FMVs will choke slower computers ( stuttering problems etc. ), I've experienced it myself. FF7 FMVs is on AVI format, so not too much processing power are needed.
Hmm, my computer is nearly the same as Amy:-

256MB RAM
GeForce2 Ultra 64MB
40GB x 2 Maxtor HDD.

No, i meant in normal play not the FMV's
I meant like in the world map.
Actually, FF7PC's world map looks better and is not blocky unlike it counterpart FF8PC. The worldmap for FF8PC also runs slower too.

Well, here's what i have now,
256 MB SDRAM
50X Aopen CD Drive
ABIT KT7 Raid Motherboard
AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1000Mhz @ 1150Mhz
20.4GB Quantum AS20(7200 rpm)
8.4GB Quantum Fireball ST(5400 rpm)
2.1GB Quantum Bigfoot(5400 rpm)
Asus AGPV3400 TNT (TNT chipset) 16MB SDRAM w tv out
SBLive Value

FF8 World Map is slow! I notice it too. It's due to only one thing; bad programming.

Couldn't really do anything about that. Eidos do a better job than EA, so I do think that Square should let them make the future FF games for PC at least.

Actually, if the quality of Square's games begins/continues to deteriorate, I'd rather a company with a rep for excellence (like Blizzard) took over the actual FF series (not the ports).

Edit: Something wasn't clear.

You simply don't get it, do you? (sorry, but this is a question that just keeps on coming)

EA and Eidos have nothing to do with the programming, they simply publish the game. FF8 was ported to PC by a team of Square programmers.
