I also think the threat of future torture or indirect methods of torture play a role.
But in any case, for 99.9% of cases, torture should never be an option.

So you are saying at no point through history has torture ever worked or saved lives? That simply isn't logical. It probably works in many cases and has saved lives. I don't know the figure of success and I suspect nor do you.
DLBP you suffer from what I like to call "what once works always works" syndrome. Like your "gay" argument, it is very flawed. We live in the age of youtube and cheeseburgers. Bosola is correct torture does not work.

It doesn't matter if religion is not the only or even the biggest cause of the killing around the world. It's one of the major ones, and that's enough reason to oppose it.
Do you really think that killing these people will solve anything?

We all have our own opinions, and it is good to share them. Now, we don't share them, we try to defend them because we think this is the only good one. I'm sorry I started that way. It's my fault...

They wait until they're outside the church/mosque/whatever before they start doing the killing. Most of the time.

A lot of the time people spend in places of worship is spent thinking of ways to kill people.
People are much more ready to kill when they believe that the death of the infidels is the will of God.
It hasn't killed a single person.
this is essentially my point I made in the other topic on religion. My arguement however is that we should not pretent to know something that is unknowable at this point. We could easily function in a society that acknowledges the existence of higher beings
Perhaps we've been brainwashed to think that science is greater than the path to enlightenment
At any rate, the idea that humans are hard-wired to think religiously is no more an argument in favour of religion
