In my opinion I second that vote...remove the logo and give the dirt a little more "realism" also give the swords a little more contrast. again my opinion.

I dunno how I'd go about making the dirt look more "real"... Is it the color or the texture that looks unrealistic?

Here is with +25% contrast and no logo:

Easy...cracks in the dirt, and give it a darker color and maybe increase the visibility of the handle.

Dirts perfect. I'm thinking maybe add a tad more light so more of the masamunes handle is visible. at first glance (on the thumb nail) it looks like it's hilt then floating gold piece.

Honestly though, I like

My idea for this submission is to incorporate it into the credit video that plays before the menu, capping it with the following (rough mockup animation)

http://www.swfcabin.com/open/1266625249

the flash would end the video, and the still highrez background would be present inplace of the original.

Thoughts?

Yeah I was playing around with Aali's drivers the other day trying to get it to read APNG files but to no avail I failed...I know of a couple of great programers personally but they won't give FF7 the time of day.

oh i was gonna put the animated part in the movie file that has the credits playing with the prelude, and have it cut to the still highrez image

I don't think the credits are a movie file, I think that sequence is hard-coded into the executable...

I'll tell you what it is. The dirt texture is fantastic, but it looks like it was applied flat. It should be distorted, put at an angle, to simulate some level of perspective.

Test render using APZ's buster sword., any thoughts, should I get rid of the stones or maybe add some more?

Larger without the stones.

Much better without the stones. Maybe if they looked a little more natural and less symmetrical it'd be okay. Also, have you considered having a softer edge on the light?

Yeah, shouldn't be too hard to tweak that.

just a note, if you guys are trying to match the original, its not actually in the ground, kinda just floating.

I know, but it looks odd just floating.

Softer edge on the lighting as per Covaar's suggestion..

I like it Dragonninja.
Re render to 1280 x 960 for me? :)

Also, i dunno if this is an option for rendering. But render with the highest amount of anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering. it should enhance image quality (though it looks great as is)

Format of choice?

In case you use an older version of Max as I'm using 2010.

Also, 1280x960 for Hellbringer.

I like this spark of new submissions  ;D they all look fantastic!

How close to the original are you trying to get?  I still like the idea of the masamune there but as far as I know there aren't any redone textures for it.
I suppose an artist could add it for the final cover.

EDIT:  Garrr I can't remember who made the cloud weapon mod, they're working on remodeling and retexturing all of his weapons.  Their buster sword looks closer to the original though it's slightly less detailed according to what AC showed (though it's definitely high quality).  Not sure how that would look sticking out of the ground.  Here's an image of it from the folder (no build, release, or artist names in the folder anywhere).

millenia is who you're thinking. Has a minor quark as the holes aren't aligned right. But otherwise i LOVE it
