7th Heaven / 7th Heaven crashes and every time I have to redownload the mods?

Is this normal? I followed the instructions very closely but when the game launches, I see the opening Squaresoft scene and then the moment I hit anything on my controller, the game crashes. I look back in 7th Heaven and the 7+GB of downloads I had are gone. Every time.
