and also the Xbox lacks DVI (most TVs dont have a VGA port) and HDMI to DVI adapters are easy to obtain.
Which you can plug in a DVI to VGA converter :P

You do lose the digital in digital video interface, DVI is selfconfigurating, only thing you need to set is brightness and contrast, no auto adjustment or size adjusting etc.
You get a cleaner crisper "true" picture over DVI then VGA, and I know that for a fact.

Hi, I did fork out a bit of cash for the Dell 2047 and got it this Friday.
I have posted some pictures on my Flickr account here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/theskillster/tags/dell/
I think in DVI and VGA it is great, abit larger then life! I need to find a bigger desk for it now!
Although I have noticed something of late, the PS2 has the worse scalability over component then any other input (gamecube PC etc) and scales horribly to widescreen on this screen and on my Samsung LCD tv.

I dont have any normal 720p sources to test with though so I can't comment on that.
By the way the landscape on my desktop background was created by me using a nice piece of software called Terragen.

I didnt see the same kind of uproar when sony updated their PSX with the PSone, or when the made the numerous revisions to their PS2 systems (i think they had 12 revisions before the slimline ps2 came out). Neither when Nintendo revised their Gamecube and scrapped their Digital out on the EU systems (I got mines early so I got the digital out, and I use it with a component cable :) ).

Microsoft are progressing their product - so what, they need to compete with Sony and they will.
HDMI has only 2 advantages - it contains soundchannels so you dont need seperate audio outputs if you are plugging into a TV, and also the Xbox lacks DVI (most TVs dont have a VGA port) and HDMI to DVI adapters are easy to obtain.
Only downside is the HDCP.

I think someone needs to make a stand against such sites, views and opinions can be easily swayed by biased sites like these.
It really does bend the idea of "free information" on the internet so far that companies can use sly tactics to pollute the net with biased views from apparant 3rd parties.

Abit like a few years ago when toms hardware were thought to be biased towards intel, of course if say anandtech had been paid shedloads of money by ATi to write a amazing review about their new card then people would be in an uproar if they found out.

Same thing should apply to thise "3rd party" sites. They should be stamped out!

Sorry to go off topic:
Lately I have been listening Rolling Star by Yui, which is also the opening track to Bleach.
Sometimes I listen to stuff from Yamashita Tomoshisa, Kat-tun, Arashi,Tokio etc just depends what I hear and then what takes my fancy as far as jpop is concerned, but there are also some really bad stuff out there from those same artists...

Tell you what, I hate the site of her. She seems to pop up everywhere, she has her own show and does a bunch of commercials.
And I hate her songs...

Hey Qhimm, you sure chose a good screen.
Yep, the 2407FPW has support for HDCP over DVI, the supported HDTV modes are as follows:
DVI: upto 1080i (dunno about 1080p but I think you need something HDCP compliant)
Component: uptp 1080i
VGA: upto 1080i/p (although 1080p is mapped to 1900x1200)
Has the USB and media card business. They have dropped the Grey to Grey timings to 8ms, while Black to White remains 16ms.

Im upgrading my 17" Hyundai LCD and am looking for something 22"+

I am really keen on getting the DELL 24" 2407 Widescreen for around £500
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-4335

or an Asus 22" Widescreen for almost £300.
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Productinfo.aspx?ProductID=15713

Any folks have bought Large LCDs and have something to share about them, any recommendations?

Money is not an issue, Overall quality, response times, connectivity and warranty are important issues - I would have had the DELL by now if I wasn't 100% sure about it's response time.

Thanks

Use of a modified ROM is illegal.
It is Sony's Proprietary code and if someone has to edit/patch/hack/reverse enginner it then using it makes it illegal and in breach of your EULA (There must be one in the box...).

Of course using an exploit to hijack the system and then play PSX PoPS wouldn't be illegal since sony are allowying you access to run unsigned code (heck that is what a loophole/ security hole is, and there isnt anything in your EULA about evading security..)

So there you are.

FFX/X-2 models only have alot of polys in the face area for their "talking" other wise the texture and poly count is pretty substandard.

Some of you know that you can download a handful of PSX games from the playstation store via your PS3 right?
These can then be uploaded to your PSP via Memory Stick.
Some guys have hacked the propriatery format used for the game "isos" and put it into a custom firmware for the PSP.

Thats right you can play all PSX games with Sony's own emulation (possibly in the latest update they have included the same PSX emu as the one in the PS3?) all you need is the original CDs/Isos and you can dump them to PC run them through a packer and upload them to your PSP and I did see a video of CSOTN running just like it should.

CAUTION: This involves flashing your PSP with a custom (non sony) firmware and is only for those PSPs that can either play homebrew already or can be downgraded.
Again this process can brick your PSP so don't waste your £179 if you don't know what you are doing.

To find more info go to digg.com and search for "PSP PSX" and find it.

Fighting Ruby weapon is like going in to the Boxing ring with just Cloud and that big mother...
With Emerald it is possible to fight a good fight and use your own tactics (depending on the strenght of your team), but when you fight Ruby you are most likely to follow the one pattern (w-summon, Hades, KOTR).

I have been keeping my eye on GP32 for some time (reading reviews, checking on the latest models) and it probably gets revised more often then any other handheld (recently they upgraded the CPU speeds - there are 2 models to choose from now).
From what I gathered is that it is great for "homebrew" software like  emulators etc. But dont expect it to play FF7, It has the power of a mid range PDA and thus emulating a PSX is tough, but if you like SNES or Megadrive then your in for some fun.
Due to the fact it is so "open Source" there wont be a lack of software or lack of development in software on this machine.

Mighty hard to beat Emerald Weapon though, you have been warned.
But if you do beat him, most of your materia will get mastered.
If you had been reading all the posts correctly you would have already realised you can come back from the Northern Crater
You can go pretty deep into the Northern Crater and go back. Just don't go fight Safer Sephiroth.
Correction, when you sit down on the ledge (when you can speak to the characters) thats the farthest point, after that you decend to fight Jenova (down the big stone blocks) where I dont think you can get back up from.

Hi
It is a location deep inside the north crater.
As you go deeper and deeper (the last level before you fight the last boss etc) you will have to split up the team, one route takes you through a dark rocky terrain and the other takes you through a brightly lit lake area. That is the "golden lake" I referred to - I have no recollection of the area or the items in that area to help you out im afraid.

The magic pots are usually located in the gold lake area just before you meet up with the other team before fighting Jenova (I think), it is pretty hard to find movers in my experience, but they are usually located in that area.

That is not so funny, I am sure people have "tried" simply walking into it to start the fight and it didn't work so in the next 2 paces they encounter a fight with one of those dragons and get slaughtered, so they forget to press X, so what :) ?

Completely Unrelated / Re: What consoles do you all own?
« on: 2006-12-17 21:16:41 »
In order of purchase or accrument:
Acorn Electron (Yes it does play games),
Commodore 64,
Game Boy,
Bleem! (Yes I paid for it and was well worth it to play GT, MGS, Xenogears and FF8),
Playstation 2 (Never thought I would give in and give Sony my money),
Nintendo 64 (ISS98, Mario 64, Goldeneye, Mario Kart - No comment!),
Gamecube (So damn cheap for a new console I thought I would give it a go).

Possibly get a Wii in the new year, but no way am I getting an Xbox and I will try and avoid the temptations of the PS3 (Damn you Pro evolution Soccer...)

Kazaa - I wouldn't trust that with my P2 machine anymore.
I did get hooked on Ranma/DBZ/Inuyasha while using iMesh which was still bad for adware.
That was till I moved to edonkey and emule.
Now its all BT...

Well you can do the editing in WMM and mess around with the encoding on Window Media Encoder or Windows Media Studio (beta I think), they offer more control over the whole encoding process.

« on: 2006-12-17 20:12:33 »
For a start what kind of irresponsible father would put a $600 machine in the reach of a infant?
I have a 2 year old and I try to keep everything out of the way and out of reach.
But enlighten me, did the infant trip on a cable or knock the xbox off a shelve in order to "break" it?
