JFF, What do you call your computer?
« on: 2011-03-02 03:36:11 »
I've known a couple people that name their computers. Me and my best bud have. I'm just wondering if anyone on this board does and have background stories behind the names.

My current computers are
Adjutant SHODAN: Themed after a mix of the Adjutant on Starcraft II and SHODAN from System Shock. A newer 2009 laptop from Vaio. Named it this because it's version of windows 7 was back in the days when W7 had alot more hiccups and clashes against programs.
Alma:Old Laptop converted into Desktop, Named after Alma Wade from FEAR due to the whole resurrection theme, and that it is a red toolbox housing the remains of the laptop. Besically the laptop was overheating too quickly and on the verge of dying so I popped it open and fixed it up with more ventalation.
Jenova:My newest Emachine Desktop. Mostly just cause the look of the think reminds me of a mako reactor and mako green eyes. Plus I experiment on her all the time.
Suigintou:An old Dell Computer my uncle had. Just like Suigintou from Rozen Maidens, she was broken, needed a little repair and a little love. But heck she's a beastly gaming computer once she was fixed up. At least for games like MWS Oblivion. Can even play Starcraft II with graphics turned up high.

Basically I go in, make the backgrounds, themes and sound/voices match the characters they are named after.

I call my computer: Daniel's Laptop.
I don't think it needs any further explanation.

Currently I am using a Toshiba laptop, consequently I named it 'P.O.S.'

My good computer, is currently out of commission.. I started building it a little while back, and have yet to come up with the funding for better cooling, so I had a couple crappy fans. Well sadly it stayed on for almost a full 24 hours and well, we all know heat is not good for electronics, but I digress. The name for this computer is 'Simba' because lions are known for strength and also Lion King was my favorite movie when I was younger.

Well, my friend Kristen said she always wanted to name something Captain Zippy, so I let her name that laptop.  The Protomen are my 2nd favorite band, and Commander is a good name for a computer, and Crazy Diamond is for Syd Barrett, one of the founding members of the best band to ever walk this earth.

Actually I recently had that problem with an old laptop. Got it back in 2008. Cracked it open when it started overheating to find out that it looked liked someone tried to do the laundry and drag a beach into it. So I dusted and cleaned it, put it into a mastercraft toolbox and taped the monitor to the lid. Had a well made external laptop fan under it and I set up a house fan next to it. So basically it blows all hot air up and away from the board. True it's an open case laptop converted into desktop. But I close the lid when I turn it off. This is my Alma.

But simba's a cool name. Planning on doing a custom art case? Lion King themed?

Actually that is a pretty cool idea. I dont have the money for it now, but the case I have now is both sides 'open' (sorry lack of sleep means lack of being able to think of what it really is called) so I could send it out or whatever to someone have and something etched in. Of course if I were to go with this I would have to get rid of the blue leds and get an orange or yellow, to go with the whole lion theme.

EDIT: Oops, meant to edit this and accidently double posted ]= All fixed though..

and Crazy Diamond is for Syd Barrett, one of the founding members of the best band to ever walk this earth.

I have never seen a statement so true in all my life. I have listened to all of Pink Floyd so much that I can pretty much just play the songs in my head whenever. Good way to pass time at school/work  :P

I refer to mine as baby, as I'm super protective of it and refuse to let anyone  but myself do any troubleshooting/repairs and some people say I treat it like my child...plus baby can also be interpreted as a girlfriend of sorts, the interpretation changes depending on my mood, in other words, I love my computer in more ways than one.

In six months' time, you'll swap those names. HP = bad! :(

Nah, he'd still be calling the Acer the same, but he'd start calling the HP words that cannot be repeated in a public space.

Touché ;D

Actually, I have a four-and-a-half-year-old Acer laptop that works perfectly. No complaints from me. It's a dedicated porn laptop.

I keep it on a little desk beside my bed (next to my head) and I have a little mouse that works on my bed. It's a really great setup and there's no risk of sticky keys.

Okayish other than the crappy hinges, screens, disc drives, and keyboards.

Really, you're lucky if it doesn't fall apart.

I call it "Hal"  the harddrives are named:

Main - Kasparov
backup 1 - Newton
Backup 2 (broke now) Feynman
Backup 3 (broke now) Einstein

Sometimes different names but usually those.

Desktop - Dr. Cool
HP Laptop - still hasn't proven itself to me. It won't be an HP for long. I'm gonna wipe it clean and make it a Linux beast!
