WIP / Re: FF7:Remake OST in FF7 PC proof of concept
« on: 2020-06-30 11:01:36 »
Could you help me identify the "chosen by the planet" tracks? For the life of me, I can't find them.

There's one version during
Spoiler: show
Cloud's Nibelheim flashback in Sector 8
and one right after you
Spoiler: show
encounter Red XIII
.
The 2nd one is clearer.
Anyway, someone already put them in a mod, its been floating around. Google "Remusic" FF7

Maybe it will give EA the right ideas this time.
I wouldn't hold your breath on EA unless you want to die blue in the face

Yes, it is technically possible, but why would you want to make more work for yourself??

WIP / Adding new music IDs
« on: 2020-06-04 05:30:26 »
Piggybacking off a request from Meteormancer early last month, I am looking for info on the method to add new music IDs to the game, with the intention of adding new tracks to certain fields/battles with Makou Reactor. I have accumulated a list of the already existing IDs:

My hope is that once the process of adding new IDs is clear and documented here for others, some research can begin on how to implement a Remake-style cross-fade of the games music, for a somewhat smooth blend of field music into battle music. I could be wrong on how this functions, but my understanding is that there is a "timestamp" value in the games field music that the engine hooks/remembers before beginning the screen whirl into battle music, which it then returns to upon battle completion. I want to utilize this value to begin battle music playback from the same "timestamp", instead of starting each battle track from the beginning. Counting on Qhimm's many and varied brain trust to offer me info on the viability and implementation of this type of music system. Thanks, all.

I've heard that speedhack is hella buggy, I would be careful with it.

You're not doing anything wrong at all. Reunion just doesn't play well with nearly anything, sometimes even itself.

the field music doesn't play from beginning with Reunion - that bug was fixed a long time ago.
You misunderstood my meaning, I was not inferring that at all, quite the opposite. That being said, to your knowledge, could the game hook that playback position from field music and apply it to battle music?

Here's an interesting thought: FF7 keeps track of field music playback in order to return you to the same sample after you're interrupted by a battle, instead of playing field music again from the beginning. I wonder if it would be possible to hook that same value in order to segue the field music into the battle versions of the track. You'll find when analyzing most of the Remake music that both the "field" and "battle" tracks are the same length so the game can switch between the two seamlessly.

The Reunion R06 (soon to be released R06f) allows up to 65535 sound effects and 255 musics. They can be added as easily as changing code in flevel with Makou for example.
But then you'd have to use The Reunion

35
They're actually not corrupted, those are the actual colors. The explanation for this has something to do with the way PSX used palette information to display certain colors, I think it was done to save on memory or something similar.

If anyone who can explain it better than I can wants to chime in, please do!

I too have wondered if extra tracks not in the original could be made to play during specific scenes. Can anyone chime in with what they know about this?

37
Shame you didn't make these from the ripped PS4 sound files that are floating around, not that the moderators would allow it here anyway

This is a great mod!  Is there any way to "swap" the B/A and X/Y?  I'm trying to use an 8BitDo SN30/Switch Pro Controller, where the A/B is swapped, and the X/Y are swapped.
There is a controller add-on in the 7th Heaven catalog.

Alternately, the game allows you to customize your controls in the main menu.

Oooof, hell yeah they would. I'll look into that, maybe I can give that some effort 😈

Hey the Remake theme is very cool but when I use it, it changes the start menu background image and the avatars revert to default, regardless of any mods I have installed. Don't know if this is intentional or not, but there's no options for avatars or start menu backgrounds in the "FF7 Remake" theme of this mod.

Edit: Also the category is under Gameplay and not User Interface. Should it be like that?

My bad about the start menu background, I had mine in there and hadnt considered that it would overwrite everyone else's. When the update for 7H is pushed, it will sort itself under your other mods

Had the same issue while creating my Remake theme with Photoshop.

For whatever reason, Photoshop is saving our transparent PNGs with a white background "underneath" the transparency. If you were to open your created image in Photoshop, got to Layer > Layer Mask > From Transparency, then delete the transparency, you'll see that your base image now has a bunch of white around it. Nothing I have tried, no alternate method of saving PNGs (For Web etc) has allowed Photoshop to keep color information for transparent pixels.

I ended up opening these PSDs in GIMP to export to PNG with that information kept intact. The problem with that is that GIMP does not know how to parse Photoshop layer effects like Color Overlay.

So you have to reduce your images to a single layer PSD with an image mask in order for GIMP to read and export it correctly.

If anyone at all can tell me how to get Photoshop to do this natively so I can skip this extra step, I would greatly appreciate it.

Remako is being updated and it will be a stand alone version.
He said on his site.
He said this nearly a year ago. Since then, this mod has received NO updates and its author has been nowhere to be found in any of FFVII's modding communities, on this site, Discord, Youtube, or anywhere else. The mod is dead and obsolete besides.

Which hext in the Enhanced UI is it that forces it to use the field font? I'm working on something myself and foresee having to disable this.

This can be used to convert nearly any texture, menu or otherwise to PNG (it's a bit iffy the other way around) but as you've said, you'll need something that supports multiple pallets to get what you're after. I've never found such a tool on here.

I'd like to note that it most definitely DOES delete things. I had an unpacked iro folder in the /mods folder and at some point it decided erasing it completely was a fine idea. I cannot find it in any backup, nor in my recycle bin. Seems gone, completely. Its very lucky that my main creation folder is elsewhere, otherwise I would have lost weeks of work.

Enjoying your 2.0 version very much. Curious, is it possible to enable all boxes (field/battle) to be transparent like the help box?

If I remember correctly, the opening cinematic has to be 15fps or the bombing run music will be out of sync but its possible I may be mistaken about this and its simply something that can be changed if you know how

Would there really be that much rust? Rust implies the presence of water or moisture. Surely that's a ridiculous danger to the stability/safety of the reactor and isn't something they would allow?

Its a good effort, a bit hit-or-miss. You're right,, you're not a pro. The field textures look pretty good but the text is killing me  :-P. I want to fix it for you but I cant see myself putting the time in to retexture the whole game so I'm not even going to start.
