Title: I'm in love with this man
Post by: DarkFang on 2011-07-25 21:50:50
Jay Von Monroe. One of the singers of Blood on the Dance Floor. <33
Yes he is gay.

And also Dahvie Vanity, the other singer of Blood on the Dance Floor.
He is straight/bisexual.

Yeah. lol
He's gay though, so that might have to do with his feminine appearance.

Ah, so Emofag was 100% spot on.

A Brony that listens to Emo? Two things that should never, ever mix.

There's two things wrong with your statement.

1. Emo means emotional. Evanescence could be considered emo music.
2. He doesn't sing emo music. Their genre is more along the lines of pop/techno/glam music.

And what's wrong with your definition of emo music anyways?
Care to say a few bands you would classify as emo?

I'm anticipating your comments on Dahvie.

It's real music, not some emo scene kids singing about candy and ice-cream. You must be confused by the fact that there aren't any synthesisers in it and there's no auto-tuning.

This is just one band that I happen to like. I listen to other bands that don't use auto-tuning. Here's a few for ya.

Escape the Fate
blessthefall
Black Veil Brides
All Time Low
Bullet For My Valentine
Fall Out Boy
Panic! At The Disco
AFI

I doubt you'll look up each one.

Wow, shitty generic music, what a shocker.

Mastodon
Dream Theater
Meshugga
Between The Buried & Me

THESE are metal bands you should listen to, ones with talent.  Bands that can actually perform their music and not sound like their balls are in a vice.  If you want manly metal, look up some Amon Amarth.

1. Emo means emotional. Evanescence could be considered emo music.

Emo music has become a genre that's been twisted and turned into something else, it started out as a form of punk/hardcore with emotional lyrics and some actual soul, now it's mostly anti-social crybabies with bad haircuts and bad tattoos.

There was a guy I knew from a couple of towns over that dated and a former classmate of mine, used to be a great guy, then he got into Emo about 4 or 5 years ago, turned into a recluse, wore nothing but black and even had the daft haircut. Complete opposite from when I first met him, he used to be into Iron Maiden, Metallica Motorhead and so on, turns to Emo, suddenly dismissing everything he used to be really into.

I'm not dismissive of the music, just the way the so called Emo "lifestyle" has turned out.

Then I have a song for you...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmzm3EsZTZg

and yes...  it is just conformism...  people want to fit in with something, and will sell out who they are to do it.  My own cousin is the same (not an emo but appearance change and music change etc, so same thing).. we don't get on anymore because he has basically had a switch in personality.  I don't think these guys have 1 clue what originality is.

Cause meatheads are douche bags.

Masculinity, (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704100604575145810050665030.html) can come at a high price. Women often think of high-testosterone types as uncooperative, unsympathetic, philandering, aggressive and disinterested in parenting. In fact, there is evidence that they really do have more relationship problems than other men.

Take it with a grain of salt, but this is a topic that is currently getting a lot of interest.

Ah, the old emo arguement. Where people who don't know nothing about it use it as an insult.
That's so 2004. Makes me feel old now :/

This is just one band that I happen to like. I listen to other bands that don't use auto-tuning. Here's a few for ya.

Escape the Fate
blessthefall
Black Veil Brides
All Time Low
Bullet For My Valentine
Fall Out Boy
Panic! At The Disco
AFI

I doubt you'll look up each one.

I dig that genre but those are just mainstream bands.
Not wanting to be an ass but i bet you've learned about them by watching MTV and/or myspace profiles of scene emos wannabes.

My favourite "emo" band would have to be "Her Words Kill" by far, one of the bands who moved me the most. I wont put songs from youtube here because they are 240p and make my ears bleed with such low quality. I'll leave my two songs of reference from a former member:

Luke Pickett - Blood Money (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf3QwWUNbLc)
Luke Pickett - Cruel Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Am8oCH4Rlpg)

Pure magic.

Although I evolved from emo/screamo/alternative rock, I barely listen to AFI and 30STM now. I'm more into Post-Hardcore now, with slightly variations. If you're interested here's a small list.

In Fear and Faith - Taste of Regret
Woe, Is Me - Fame Over Demise
Hands Like Houses - Lion Skin (ft. Jonny Craig & Tyler Carter)
We Came As Romans - To Move On Is To Grow
The Used - Im a Fake
Enter Shikari - Sorry You're Not A Winner
Black Veil Brides - Knives and Pens
I Killed The Prom Queen - Say Goodbye
Drop Dead, Gorgeous - Dressed For Friend Requests
Alesana - Congratulations, I Hate You
BRING ME THE HORIZON - Diamonds Aren't Forever
Chiodos - The Undertaker's Thirst For Revenge Is Unquenchable (the Final Battle)
Saosin - 7 Years
A Day to Remember - The Downfall of Us All
Make Me Famous - Make It Precious
Pierce The Veil - Caraphernelia
The Bunny The Bear - Ocean Floor

What's so 2004 is using the word "emo" as anything but an insult. Its meaning has changed over the years, and thanks to the common use of it to mean "whiny, spoilt, middle-class white kid with stupid hair" that is exactly what it now means.

My friend has been on this band's dick for about a year, and I just have to say the following

they suck, they suck, they fucking suck.  get the fuck over them, they fucking suck donkey dick

Now, most of the other bands you mentioned suck, post-hardcore is a pretty shitty genre.  the only good band, imo that you mentioned, was Enter Shikari, they happen to kick ass.

Is all of their "music" like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F30n1ucCfx4)? If so, your claims about them seem to be accurate. At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, that's just a bunch of kids shouting. There's no tune!

Also, there are some lulzy comments for this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gzt0iJ0cUxA) Blood on the Dance Floor video. It seems that most of their fans are between the ages of 11 and 13, with 12 being the most common.

The first video seems to be jeffdamann's band. I was most amused by the line "It's a brother and a sister kinda thang". No wonder they all have six fingers on each hand over there.

The second video was uploaded by an arsehole who decided that Britfags weren't allowed to see it.

Yes.  Now, I can appreciate the whole hardcore scene and all that.  However, that doesn't mean I like it; even as far as bands I do like, in that genre, they don't even come close to being one of them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mwgv7WjPK4  Try listening to that for some good metal.  For those who aren't aware, Dream Theater is a Progressive Metal band comprised of some EXTREMELY skilled musicians, just to illustrate, their new (as in, they just announced he joined the band a few months ago) drummer was a professor at UC Berkeley, and their keyboardist went to the Juilliard School Of Music pre-College division at the age of nine.  This song is a medley of various instrumental pieces and solos they've recorded/performed over the years.  See how they can do this thing called perform them, with no issue (forget how they make all of them flow into each other so perfectly)?  That's called talent, it's something most bands lack these days.

People need to stop trying to define "emo" cause everyone uses they're own definitions to slang words, and as such, it means something else to everyone.  It's a word, and to me personally it designates whiny, stupid, posers who have the same generic haircut.  They're all a bunch of pushovers who try to defend themselves, but have no real redeeming qualities, so it just makes them look like the sad excuse for life that they really are.

I find it rather funny when people say "XX sucks. Listen to YY, now that's good".
Seriously, you need a sandwich of good old sense.

Just because you find a music genre more appealing, that doesn't mean EVERYONE will like it, otherwise there wouldn't be hundreds of music genres. There is this diversity for a reason, people have different tastes. Or else we would all be hearing Mozart, Beethoven and Bach.

It's like saying "Barcelona is the best football team, let's all cheer for them instead of cheering for weaker teams".  ;)

Or else we would all be hearing Mozart, Beethoven and Bach.

J.S Bach comes from the baroque peroid of music(very imbeilished), and wrote on secular music  as music in that time was only for god. Bach was one of the first people to have eye surgery. (many of his childen were composers too.)

Mozart (being older then beethoven) was one of the first "classical" peroid composers. this peroid was the first where you could write non secular music publicly.

Beethoven was beated alot as a child (because his father wanted him to be like mozart) . as a result later in life he lost hes hearing. because of that lots of hearing aids were invented . when he died the classical perioid was over.

Mozart, Beethoven and Bach are completly different music genres indeed. However...
Quote
J.S. Bach [...] wrote on secular music as music in that time was only for god.
That's not true, non-secular music have always existed, and Bach didn't wrote solely on religious theme.
Quote
Bach was one of the first people to have eye surgery.
If I'm not mistaken, eye surgery is not that late either.
Quote
Beethoven was beated alot as a child [...] as a result later in life he lost hes hearing
Oh? I thought the lead water canalisation were to blame, are you sure of that?

For my part, the only music I enjoyed in this topic were Kudistos' first two Russian, especially the first one.

Meshugga <3

I find it rather funny when people say "XX sucks. Listen to YY, now that's good".
Seriously, you need a sandwich of good old sense.

I'm just going based on "this band can actually play what they write, they must be at least somewhat talented."

I hope you realise that the negative reaction to BotDF isn't because of their sexuality; it's because they're such giant douchefags. Indeed, some people argue[citation needed] that people like this do a great disservice by re-enforcing stereotypes.

Think that explains it all right there.

Indeed. Not all gay people are faggots and not all faggots are gay (in fact, I can't help but wonder whether the word "faggot" will eventually lose all connotations of homosexuality and end up being a generic insult).

It's like the difference between black people and niggers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3PJF0YE-x4).

Before anyone starts whining, I'm black, so I'm allowed to say "nigger"

There's two things wrong with your statement.

1. Emo means emotional. Evanescence could be considered emo music.
2. He doesn't sing emo music. Their genre is more along the lines of pop/techno/glam music.

And what's wrong with your definition of emo music anyways?
Care to say a few bands you would classify as emo?

I'm anticipating your comments on Dahvie.

just have to correct your idiocy, as common as it may be I cannot stand it. The word "emo" actually first derived from a genre of music called emotive-hardcore which began in the early to mid 80's. One of the first bands of this genre was a group called Fugazi. People just made the assumption that "emo" stood for emotional (just as most uneducated individuals tend to resort to assumption) and proceeded to destroy and desecrate the entire message of what these people were trying to get across. In short; This modern "emo" movement is just another washed up, kashed out, piece of shit, that stems from no legitimate philosophy, ideal or scientific system and means absolutely nothing. These people just like to get fucked up and dance. I have nothing against gay people, what I hate is uneducated moronic behavior.

the description pretty much covers entire pop/mainstream music.
