FF7 Crashes at start of any fight
« on: 2009-08-13 07:52:00 »
I've spent a few hours tinkering with it, cant figure out how to fix it, running winxp 2gig ram and a Nvidia Geforce Go 7800GTX

Mods installed are as follows;
offical 1.02 patch
laptop fix
NPC RP
cloudqualtity
Saint's high res
Advent avatars
MGP

______________
I followed miracle.Flame's instructions to install each mod in the order specified, Can't think of anything that would cause the game to crash during the fight swirl with MGP installed

any help would be great, though i may end up reinstalling on my older system to avoid having to deal with troubles with the 8bit paletting.......

Then again I've been saying that for about 12 years now...

Use Aali's custom graphics driver instead of the SaiNt's High-res patch. (I've been repeating this a lot lately).

Aali's driver allows you to play the game at any resolution and also fixes a lot of things, it'll probably solve your problem too.

Find it here

does the image swirl and then go to battle or does it freeze before the swirl?

if it does, then you need to download YAMP

Did you try using Aali's driver or not?

tried a complete reinstall, still has the same issues with Aali's gfx driver

Yes, they do, however, unless you hold down the function key, it doesn't work.

hmm..ano....

You should do this steps if you havin to deal with that:

1.install the game
2. install DUCK
3.Laptop patch
4. the 1.02 patch
5.hi res cloud (optional)
6.YAMP
7.NPC-PRP
8.Spell patch
9.FFVII music
10.Aalis Driver

ANy MOD you wish to install.. as long as it doesn't affect ff7.exe..is fine..But its still up to you..

FEEDBACKS would be nice..Ganbare!

The FFVII game menus require the numpad's return key to be pressed to confirm things. the [fn] key does not affect the return key at all, thus you cannot confirm any name changes without the numpad return key, which laptops usually do not have. (The normal return/enter key does not work.)

I had this issue too, but since Aali's driver came out it stopped... did you make sure you are using Aali's driver and not one of the others? There's a specific process you have to use to turn on Aali's driver, and if you run FF7Config, it automatically turns Aali's driver off again.

How does FF7config affect Aalis driver? I really am A klutz to figure that out ..And its been bugging me all the time while I'm playing..? :|

And it also (sometimes) reverts  the settings to its original...Its Mind boggling!!! :-o ( at least for me..) :-D

It changes the registry settings back to default thus cancelling out Aali's Driver which relies on a reg setting to run.

I see.....Well how does it cancel it? Is that some sort of a programming that FF7config do?...

Well anyways....as long as Aali's driver works its fine.. but it kinda sucks having to do that procedure..I'm just plain lazy no?  :lol:

FF7Config automatically sets the registry settings whenever you open/close it, and since that's how Aali's driver works, that's bad. Set up a batch file to automatically run the registry file and ff7config at the same time to save trouble. that's what I did.

absolutely,
open notepad, copy and paste this into it:
Code: [Select]
@ECHO off
@Start FF7Config.exe
@ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 -w 4000 > nul
@ping 127.0.0.1 -n %1% -w 1000> nul
@Start FF7OpenGL.reg
@Exit

and save it as FF7Config.bat in your ff7 folder... FF7OpenGL.reg might not be the same name as yours, so that might need renaming.
What this does is, runs ff7config, waits 5 seconds, then runs the registry keys.
make shortcuts to this batch file and put them wherever you had shortcuts to FF7Config beforehand. (you can also change the icon of the shortcut to be ff7config.exe's icon if you want it to look the same)
