General Discussion / FFXI benchmark program
« on: 2002-11-02 20:10:12 »
Nayoung sent me this link, thought u guys might wanna test this out...

http://www.playonline.com/Download/FFXiBench.zip

I got a score of 2072 ..... pretty crap.

The graphics in the Benchmark don't look too good either... I wonder if there's any way to crank it up.. or probably it's set like that.

I'm not gonna get FFXI anyway.. but I thought u guys might just wanna test it out.

If I'm not mistaken it should be ficedula who made LGPtools.....

AFAIK D3D worked well with 3dfx..... no probs with any FF games using Voodoos  :)

I personally do not feel that 3dfx is that good with OpenGL, they're rather much better with Glide...

Yes ... I do own an i740 card in the past and it  *should* be compatible with OpenGL.... just that it's pretty slow.....  :-?

OK I've just read the FAQ section of the forums and found out that Black Materia Cloud has actually found a way to make FF7 work with Win2000.

http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=1245&start=60

Read Black Materia Cloud's post (in that link) if re-formating Win2000 doesn't make FF7 work.

Oh, joy......

Now I gotta test this (since I use Win98SE on my machine), and see if its true.

But, I seriously doubt it, since I've played it in the past on Win98.  Are you saying it crashes on the beginning part of the game, after the train stops and you blitz the Military Police?

My crash wasn't related to that. Whenever I load any FF7 savegame and after a few moves Illegal Operation happens...

I do not think that has anything to do with my Windows 98/ME (that time)... must be some faulty hardware or corrupted files.....

I think FFTactic_Boy plays FF7 on Windows 2000...

Umm lol.. no I don't...  :P
I told you I left my FF7 in Msia.. didn't bring it, instead I brought FF8... oh well  :-?

I do play FF8 on Win2000 though, and I  haven't tried FF7 on Win2k before (I played it on Win98/ME, worked fine)

So I think my suggestion is to dual boot... I'm sorry really. I don't have any suggestions to offer since I don't have FF7 at the moment... and I can't find one in the UK stores.. (duh!)  :weep:

Edit - oh by the way... FF7 did crash on Win98/ME if I remember correctly.... (After Cloud moves a few steps in the game, Illegal Operation... always happens!) and the *only* *extreme* way to fix it was to format the computer. Of course I'm not suggesting to you to format your PC; but I just thought you might wanna know some info about FF7 and Win98/ME.

General Discussion / A bug in FF8

Hmm that's weird because usually before I end Disc2 I'll have probably 20-30++ cards of the same kind. Interesting find though. Time for me to re-play that part again........  8)

And oh, welcome to the forums.  :)

Edit - I've played through that part. I have 10 funguar cards, 17 cactuar cards and 10 gerogero cards and I can still battle with G-Garden.

You know, most likely Samuel's DLS is being played back by the MS synth, anyway, so you really can't say it sounds better than the MS synth.

Whenever you're talking about the quality of a DirectMusic synth, such as the MS synth, the synth's quality can only be as good as the instrument samples in the DLS its using.

Which is why the MS synth can sound totally different, depending on the DLS loaded.

I'll keep that it mind. Learnt something new today.  :P

Thanks.

Samuel's DLS is pretty good (sounds better than the MS synthesizer!). And yes I downloaded the 30mb on my 56k!  :wicked: (That was before I got my DSL)  :)

Here you go. Picture courtesy of Nayoung, and special thanks goes to Mirex for the hosting  :)

I didn't know about Final Fantasy games in the past until my friend recommended me to get FF7. I thought, well I'll just give this game a chance. When I first played it.... it was really cool. That's when I started to like FF games.....  :)

I ran it on a P2 350/ 64mb RAM/ 8mb i740/ AWE64

The sound quality was good (although the MIDIs can't be compared against PS' music), but I had to run on Software renderer because I didn't know how to update graphics card driver then (New to the Internet during that time too   )

Overall the game ran pretty OK on software + full screen. When I updated the drivers I ran on D3D and I must admit I gasped when I first saw FF7's graphics in 3D.....  :)

Yeah I unzipped them to the correct folder ... it's just that I don't know the mission names. I've tested them out and yeah they are really good... and I didn't know that your friend was the main cause of the 1.11 patch lol....  :)
The texturing and lightings of the maps are really good (Well, considering that it's such an old game) and some of the T1 maps are now available in the T2 Classic MOD patch.... which is pretty cool.

It feels really odd not to come across your maps when the fact that I've played Tribes for some time.... hehe.

Btw Spiro there is a folder called Tribes and apparently there is a 007 mod in it.... am I right? (filesize = 16mb)
Can you teach me how to install the MOD.... do I need to modify anything (e.g. the autoexec.cs files) inside Tribes or should I just unzip it ....? I unzipped it and ran Tribes but I can't find it.... thanks.

And yeah the MIDI musics are great.

ok..you said that a small hole was in a disc, this meaning that you were missing a tiny bit of data. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this error probably goes back to the manufacturing of the disc. Considering the fact that you took the disc to be "repaired" at the game store, your story may not be believable. If you hadn't done anything with the disc beforehand, you could've just sent it in to the manufaturor.

When my dog shredded my ff7 installation disc I threw away all the bits and pieces, so I screwed myself out of a new one. Apparently it's too late for you, as well.

He bought the disc from Ebay and apparently the guy who sold him the disc might have known about this anyway.......

Well anyway.... sorry to hear about your case (FF7 disc wrecked by dog).

When I first run FF7 I was using a PII350 / 64MB SDRAM with a 8MB i740 graphics card and it ran well. When I upgraded to Voodoo3 3000 + 64MB of SDRAM the game became very fast.... :)

142
Haha yeah.... the Voodoo cards seem to do the job well for Final Fantasy games.....  :)

Anyway my GeForce2 Pro is doing quite OK with FF8 as well. Not surprisingly, there are still lines in the menu and it looked rather messed up. But when I turn on FSAA the lines disappeared and the graphics look OK (I presume that the line was blurred off till it disappeared lol) in World Map/ everything!  :D

143
That's weird. Final Fantasy 8 PC worked fine on Win2000 for me.....  :wicked:

Synergy Blades: I've been to a company dealing with 3D graphics and such; I know it is very hard to build 3D model buildings. Like Skillster said, I also have to say WOW ...  :D Really awesome job man!

I do not think I deserved to be called a 'lifesaver' but I'm just helping out because I'm a bit bored.... anyway I'm just trying my best to help people out in this board, and I'm sure that is why such place exists. FF gamers to help FF gamers.  :)

As for you disc.... I'm sorry to hear that, well personally I wouldn't buy 2nd hand stuffs (such as ebay)... probably the seller knew that the 1st disc was faulty..... but considering the rarity of FF8, I understand your situation.

Anyway....... have fun with FF8.  8)

Ok I took it to a local game shop here and they "repaired" it.  Now the cd has some faint spiral pattern to it, but its good and shiny.  Anyway, I can see one small fleck on the surface.  And sure 'nuf, it still can't get past that movie.  Game of frisbee, anyone?  I hate that you can only find this game used (for pc anyway), it was quickly becoming my favorite game ever!

Hey FFTactic_boy, would it work if I just emailed the savegame to you?

Sure, why not.

e-mail address: [email protected]
And er, just a small warning. Please put your subject as "It's Evisc here" or "FF8 Savegames by Evisc" because I delete mails from unkown people. Thanks.... I'm pretty sure I can get past that part, because I've re-played FF8 on my PC.... infact.  :D

Ok, thank you, I'm male, system specs...

How do I see those?

Start>Program>Accessories>System Tools>System Information

Another alternative would be checking your FF8Config... but that won't really show your system specs.

And is FMV for cinemas? because its just after the cinema, when i first regain control. sorry for unclearity.

I've confused you I think..... FMV does not mean cinemas, FMV stands for Full Motion Video (or whatever it stands for).

 Also, I need the MFC70.DLL or something.. ^.^;;;

 hello all!

http://www.qhimm.com/mfc.zip

And uh, welcome to the board. For your question about the FMV freezing, I'm sorry but I have no clue what's going on. (Probably stating your PC specs *might* help)

As for you posting in the 'wrong' forum... well it doesn't matter I think considering that you are a new member.... but just a hint: the first question should've went into the 'Game Tweaking' forum (but since you are new after all, I think this is understandable.)

Also, try avoiding double posting.... as you would realise there is an edit button (top corner right of your post) which allows you to modify the original post. Hope these hints help!!

And welcome to the board... where the best FF programmers/ gamers meet (I'm not kidding here  :wicked: )
