Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase has spoken about the tantalising prospect of making Final Fantasy VII-2.
Asked whether Square Enix might make a direct sequel to the much loved game PSone game, FF XIII-2 producer and VII director Yoshinori Kitase told CVG's E3 agents:
"It would have to be really big budget title. It would take a long time and a lot of money to make that. We would be interested given the opportunity, but obviously we'd have to see, round up the best staff, and we'd have to look at the situation in the market to see if it's good timing for us... At the moment we've got no plans... We might do it."
So it seems that, given enough of a budget, as well as on opportunity, they'll do it. There was a bit of a whole left at the end of Cerberus...
I'd like it, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea.

When would VII-2 take place?

I guess this story will go like this. Genesis wakes up!! smiles wickedly... I have one black wing and I'm cool like sephiroth he says. Turns out Genesis was Sephiroth's brother and jenova's second son. What are the odds?? (For Square it's a common story). Suddenly Aeris comes back to save the day with an army of Ancients and Angeal is her lost son which she gave away during her prostituting years. In the end Genesis will find Sephy merge with him call Grand cross and a white pony will come and kill us all. The ancients will lose and the only one who can save us are.... I don't want to give spoilers... So i want say it's a small thing with a red apple-like ball over it's head and looks exactly like it's twin brother kupo :P See ??? i can't wait to see this going live on ps5 xD
When would VII-2 take place?
Probably 2 years later after Midgar has become an environmentally friendly town using recycling to give power to the city to everything inside the city. :-X :P

A sequel to 7 that concentrates on genesis is not needed, you can read into the ending of dirge of cerberus that rather than being a bad guy he will know be doing good in the world

I'd only be okay with this, if they recon everything after ff7, and do something different.
I really think AC was over rated, ESPECIALLY the "new costumes". All I see anymore is "Cloud AC mod" this, and "Cloud AC mod" that. Ooo, a skirt and an arm sleeve. I'm sorry but his original outfit worked best, and I liked his hair longer.
I was one of the biggest Cloud fanboys around my area, and even I thought he looked stupid. It really bummed me out.
I did like the KH 1 outfit, but only because it also nodded towards Vincent.
I'll get off my soap box now.

I dont think they need to make a sequel. I would much prefer a remade FFVII (no story changes, only graphical/sound). The sad thing is if they made a sequel i would most likely buy it. I havn't had a good rpg fix in a while.

I dont think they should continue especially with the wrong staff etc it would give a different message about ffvii especially for the newcomers who didnt play the 1st ffvii yet if they want they could upscale graphics make some slight changes and release it many of ny friends newbies was interested of playing ffvii but after they heard it was a ps1 game they switched off

That's sad for them that they would be so ignorant... Obviously another lot who only care for graphics.

Oh gawwsh, Enix can barely make new decent FF titles right now, what makes them think they can continue the old stories they made which were actually the best? > . >
I dunno, I mentioned in a utube comment that Enix can only carry on FF franchise if they went back in time & stopped combining the company to make Square Enix. Since then the company really went weird. They're currently only good at appealing to everything in an average way; they should/have just focused on making true FF style games. The top quality has been lost when mixed with making so many other games D:

After all, what is the majority of this site dedicated to? Making VII more modern and better looking. One of the best things about VII is its traditional gameplay and mechanics. There's way too much desire to try all sorts of weird systems and I just don't like them.
People have been begging for a current-gen VII remake for at least a decade so they can't deny there hasn't been a demand for it. Instead we just get treated to disappointing new "Final Fantasy" labelled games and crap VII spin-offs.
Sure, Squenix might want to throw a big budget at a VII-2 but for a remake of VII I really don't see the requirement for a huge budget. If anything, a VII remake would be the ultimate cash cow for them but I sure as hell wouldn't complain if they did it.

I really would like a FF7-2 but FF stories have been rather disappointing now to say the least.....
Advent Children - story was terrible
FFX-2 - story was terrible
FF12 - story was boring.
FF13 - story lackluster.
FF7CC - found the story to be quite interesting. though most of the groundwork had been laid by FF7.
I also miss the badass heros like cloud and squall. Seems like as the story goes on the males just keep getting more and more effeminate. Characters just havent been as lovable. I mean the whole FF12 cast sucked. FF13 cast I didnt like as much either.
And with AC + DoC and whatever else they've created so far, I'm not really hopeful to be honest. They need to ignore AC and DoC, and make FF7-2 something where Cloud isn't emo for the whole game. They need something of substance to happen, I mean AC was one of those stories where something is happening, yet changes nothing except how we feel about the original. Nothing of substance because there was no emotional build up to it at all and relied sheerly on the strength of the original title for any emotional value the player/viewer felt. AC had virtually no character development, no buildup for the enemy (I didnt really care about Loz and Kadaj at all), and noone even cared about geostigma. Who cared that geostigma was killing kids? The kids were never really close to my heart, not the way someone like aerith might have been. The disease was impersonal and there was no face to the evil. I really hope they rewrite AC and DoC out of canon with FF7-2 - and it'll be hard because sequels have expectations (well maybe not FF anymore...) but Square has to do it, because FF7 has been destroyed with all the new stuff.
