It seems to be down again, at least for me. :( Ah well.

Disemvowel? Is that a punishment for forums where you're forced to type in txt tlk?

Edit: Ah. I see. NVM about that. >.> Though I hardly see how it would be appropriate for necro-posting. :D

contrary to popular belief, LCD monitors can get "burned in" patterns in them as well, though it takes insane amounts of time. I have 2 at home that can testify to this. They both have a burn line from where the screen was run in 4:3 for too long (about a year or so) demarking the edge of the 4:3 picture. It's fairly subtle, but definitely there on both screens, and can really be an eyesore after watching the screen for a longer period of time. Generally, the problem isn't permanent, but image persistence does exist on modern screens.

Plasma screens are also susceptible to burn in much like CRTs. So unless you have your monitor set to turn off after 15 or 20 minutes, a screen saver is still a feasible solution. Don't know where people are getting that Screen savers are completely unnecessary anymore..

General Discussion / Re: Stupid question for Halkun
« on: 2009-12-22 12:11:34 »
Thanks for clarifying. I just didn't want to go through the trouble of making things again if there was going to be someone heavy handing my project to keep it "close to the original". After all, if the original work was so fantastic, why is there SO much work being done to improve upon or change what's there?

General Discussion / Stupid question for Halkun
« on: 2009-12-22 05:01:10 »
I've noticed you posting in some threads "encouraging" people with what seems to be.. I don't know a forceful hand to stay close to the original items when doing their own overhaul work. Not that they seem to mind, But let's say I wanted to add something else to this community... It's been ages since I have, but lets say i decide to model or retex something, is that a rule that you're actually trying to enforce on people in a community of modifications, or is it simply a personal preference that you're tossing around? I'd like to know, and I'm sorry if this comes off as crass... I thought about it for a while and I decided not to beat around the bush with delicacy on this one, as I'd just like an answer, when next you or anyone with the answer to this question pokes their head in. :D

I do remember when Modding was about creativity... Is it still or is there someone trying to wrench the creativity and freedom out of a creative process?

Troubleshooting / Re: Problem with FMVs -> Gameplay
« on: 2008-01-03 01:26:17 »
Mornion if you have it uninstalled you could try reinstalling the latest k-lite and maybe just install the microsoft avi splitter (be careful it defaults to Gabest) and the minimum amount of codecs.  This is what I did but I guess the problem could be elsewhere...  You could check what filters you have installed with like Directshow filter manager or somesuch tool, but it should be uninstalled with the pack. Probably something else is splitting the FF7 movies, but it could be anything... I noticed I had nero doing it at one time.  Also I am using True motion 2.0.6.9 so maybe you could install that too if its still not working.

PS - I think these issues happen because the microsoft avi splitter returns some value to the game when the movie its playing is done.  But the other splitters like Gabest and Haali dont return whatever this value is or FF7 cannot recognize it.  Of course it probably sends something to tell when the movie starts too so thats why cloud(or whoever) doesnt move at all during a movie.  This is why in your example of the elevator in Junon it is not moved after the movie is done.. the game doesnt think the movie has been played.  This is my going theory though..maybe someone who knows more can explain it.
I am happy to report that this was indeed my problem. While I had no problem without K-Lite, I can now keep it installed so I can use it for other projects on my computer. If you experienced the problem i did, then try this, as it could very well be the solution to the problem.

Troubleshooting / Re: Requesting FF7.exe
« on: 2007-11-21 20:54:39 »
It will be possible to still use a modified exe to patch though, no?
I ask because my current exe file as an example, has been given the High-Res and YAMP treatment, as have many others.
I have the same situation, as I'm sure most people have. If I have already installed HiRes or YAMP (they can be removed by reverting back to the original exe), but will I stil lbe able to reapply those patches to your patched exe? I remember HiRes patch being kind of testy.

I think that's what he's trying to say, laptops only do Stereo but the game uses mono.
Uhh... my game plays in stereo. Hence why sounds coming from the left side of the battle field come out of the left speaker and Vice versa. If you do a sound test in the configuration it demonstrates that.

84
Done both, no result. Thank you :D nevertheless. Isn't it possible that the 1.02 is the culprit? or the Truemotion Codec? At this point I can think of everything :D
Truemotion is just the FMVs and wouldn't affect your background textures. Try an unpatched version of the game, or perhaps ask some people who claim to be running on vista how they did it.

85
Open FFVII Configuration and try disabling the NVidia Riva option then. If it still has the problem, try switching to TNT.

86
Did you install the 1.02 patch? If you didn't that's the culprit, since you run on an NVidia card. Try that and selecting the Riva compatibility.

Yeah, but, I dont know why he wrote red respose, its hard to read, and not polite:P
And, he can conntact square soft, and ask, if he has PSX version, If he can use PC version.(or read forum rulez and dont write about his FF7 version...)
It should not matter, whith data you use, if you have valid licence.
But yeah, I realy dont know why I resposed to this "offtopic".

That's actually inaccurate since the license for each format is different. Purchasing a license for PSX is not a license for PC, X-box or any other port of the game. But I'm not here to argue legality in the NPC_RP thread. And neither should you be.

ON-TOPIC: 4 weeks sounds great. I'm looking forward to the new release, and I'm glad someone still mods for a nearly 10 year old game.

did he cast meteor rain, and heartless angel on you before?  If he hasn't cassted any of those moves yet your not even in his last 3rd of his HP.   during the last third he should also do double cut and blade beam.

So no one has beaten him yet?  I just need to know if hes beatable lol.   that last 3rd of his life kinda seems hard.  And i have to deal with him with natural stats only. and i don't have a save there so i can't tell.

-double cut that can parylize even if you got immunity
-blade beam damages all characters
-meteor rain 6 random hits
-shadow flare probably 15,000 damage
-pale horse adds frog status and probably other stuff and it can hit single character for high damage or all characters.
-supernova 9600 damage to all no matter what
-dean  deals damage and eliminates all positive effects
-heartless angel 1 hp 0 mp and death sentence even if you got imunity
-I don't remember anymore but i think he can counter as well.
-Beta dealing 8000 to 12,000 fire damage

Status effects "even if you have immunity" is over the top no matter what. What's the point in getting these abilities if it can be bypassed. Making a boss harder is cool, but honestly, I think removing or bypassing facets of the game takes away from its original intention... That's just my opinion though. I honestly prefer raised stats and altered AI. Destroying "cheap" materia combos or making them useless kinda ruins a little of the fun. But, this is your mod.

How about unpatched version of FF7? I mean clean 1.02 ff7.exe and unaltered archives. Also, running FMVs from HDD won't hurt if you set the path correctly (and it seems that you got that right :)).
I'll try that, with K-Lite still installed. In the end though, I may just use K-Lite to encode all my avi's and then remove it, as that seems to be the problem THank you for the response.

Edit: Still no dice, same response as before, only with blocky characters after I get visuals back. Perhaps I should install the GYPT patch and use it? Even still, everything works without K-Lite (or possibly just FFDShow) so I'll encode the remainder of my movies and be uninstall the program. Thanks again though. Please, though continue to provide help, and I'll gladly test it, as others may be experiencing these issues.

So yes, you could say that his models will clash with those made by me or ice_cold513. But they won't clash any more than the original lego models, so I can't see why could they harm the project.

Well...  :-D I thought that the NPC Project had, among his goals, to make us eventually forget about the lego models. A clash of style will surely end up reminding me of those instead...  8-)
Not to sound rude, but you don't have to use the mod, or even better you can make all the models yourself for consistency in your game. The people who make mods do so in their own free time, and often enough with no compensation save for the thanks that others give them. While tweaking and bug reporting are normal and usually appreciated from modders, nitpicking and "this isn't right for me" isn't appreciated.

I'm a long time modder of TES3 and part time modder on TES4, and I'll openly admit, there's people who can do things which I can't even dream of doing. But I don't tell them their work is not good enough or too inconsistent for me to enjoy because the game doesn't fit quite right.

While constructive criticism (when solicited by the modder) is ok, I have to say this rudeness is uncalled for in a public discussion, because they're doing something, FOR FREE that others can enjoy, that either you can't- or don't want to be troubled with taking the time to- do.

While my request of an edit or model without the Buster Sword could have been taken as an insult, I did not berate them about my immersion. I did a little leg work and figured out how to mod it for my game, even if just modifying the files they released. I did not demand that the model be changed because it didn't fit with MY game.

So while your original statement wasn't out of line, as modder's etiquette goes, your continued arguing about Stormmedia's "lack of proficiency" is completely out there.

You can criticize me all you like for this rant, I don't care. Someone needs to stand up for the modders here. Take a look at TES boards for an example of how to treat modders.

That's my 2 cents.

By the way, guys, GREAT mod, and I'm looking forward to further releases!!

I'm sorry to Necro post, but I have a pertinent question. When I try to save my file in VirtualDub, I get this message, despite the file only being open VirtualDub:
Unable to open file "C:\Program Files\Final Fantasy VII\Movies\opening.avi" for write: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Any suggestions?

Ok. Thanks.. i just had to run through the *.hrc files to find which one was clouds. Got it figured out now. Thanks again for the patience with an old man who doesn't understand programming nearly as much as he'd like.

Can someone re-upload on another server, please?

I´ve tried to download since the release but that crap server of filefront don´t like me.
There's nothing wrong with Filefront.  But then, your problem may not be related to the fact that many people don't know how to register on their site. Which file(s) do you need uploaded, and I'll go ahead and do it.

Thanks Borde. I appreciate the help, even if I am helpless to figure out how to change the Cloud model there. I actually kinda like it, since the model is so much smaller, though.

It could also be that Christians are the most fervent about trying to force their beliefs on others. I mean, never mind the past transgressions of the Crusades and the Inquisition, but now adays they still do try to force their beliefs on people, and sigh with pity as you laugh at them. It's really all very frightening when thinking of humanity's hope for the future.

Releases / gjoerulv's "Hardcore" mod
« on: 2007-10-23 02:54:13 »
What about the one-on-one battle between cloud and sephiroth? Did you (Gjoerulv or ARMs) mod that sephiroth's stats so that you will acutally have a fight with him or does he still die after one omnislash? I tried to edit his stats so you actually did have to fight with him, he hit me first and cloud counter attacked (just a regular counter attack, not omnislash) and he died. If you did edit his stats to turn him into a regular fight (if that is at all possible) can you use the item command? If I recall correctly, on the PSX version of the game you can use items but on the PC version you can't use items, because the item command is gone. (At least on my Asian-Pacific PC edition of the game you can't use items, I don't know if its that way for all the other PC versions of the game although I would assume so.)
I couldn't use Items on my PSX version. It had Limit and that was it, IIRC. Kinda disappointing.

Ok. I got the field Cloud without the sword. If you want to do it, open the aaaa.hrc file with notepad and you'll see this:
Code: [Select]
:HEADER_BLOCK 2
:SKELETON n_cloud_sk
:BONES 21

hip
root
1
1 AAAB

chest
hip
7
2 AAAD aaad2

Change
Code: [Select]
chest
hip
7
2 AAAD aaad2

to this:

Code: [Select]
chest
hip
7
1 AAAD

And the Field Cloud model will lose the sword. Now, to find the world map model. Anyone know the files for that one?
