General Discussion / Re: Remake or post dirge?
« on: 2011-12-18 08:51:39 »
Never having played Dirge, I can honestly say I don't care where it goes from there. A remake (assuming it's done right) would be so much better, IMO.

Lol well, pretty much the gameplay sucked. Story and fmvs were ok. But had that teaser for genesis reawakening after the credits. So I am curious if he will be a good guy. Bad guy. Just what will happen in general. Plus now that I have seen a pregnant lulu and her babe, I sort hope for that aww factor with tifa.

General Discussion / Restarted ffvii. Now what?
« on: 2011-12-18 08:09:54 »
Alright. I just reinstalled ffvii on my dev pc (oddly named jenova lol) currently going through the mods to figure out what I would like. Took Awhile cause I installed on xp. But finally got everything working. Some field lag though bleugh. Anyways I have mostly played with graphics mods, yamp, and sephiroth mods. Not sure if I should get one of the hardcore or rebalance/ added features mods. Also I'll tell ya what, it takes so stinkin long to kill safersephiroth and weapons with just the 9999 hpmpdmg limit breaking mod.

From personal experience what mods do most of you prefer? Good or bad experiences with certain mods? Etc.

I may just relearn more about the new tools and make my own stuff if I get a few ideas. Zack mod still isn't done. My idea for updating graphics but keeping chibi style seems to be taken. Unless I do chibi battle models if I could wing that.

General Discussion / Remake or post dirge?
« on: 2011-12-18 08:00:36 »
I've been thinking about which I would like to see first. The remake of the first ffvii or a new game post dirge of Cerberus timeline?

What makes it hard is
For a remake, nostalgia factor. New graphics, gameplay, etc.

For post dirge, either continuing or finishing the story.

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Post dirge or remake and why?

Gameplay / Re: [REL/FF7] FF VII - Shinra Mod

I was wondering if you had any screenshots of cissnei?

I'm pretty much at the point of saying, "do whatever, just decide to get started and get to work." I bet as much as all of the fans argue so do the developers in Square offices. I mean, if I was on the original team for FF7 or a developer that would like to get my hands in that goldmine, both sides would have an opinion to voice. Heck I'd even go with an engine update or fan remake.

General Discussion / Re: Thoughts on FFX for psp vita
« on: 2011-12-14 10:30:53 »
Porting can be done fairly cheap. A few 2D assets will need remade so as not to look bad (mostly UI stuff like fonts), and some cutscenes will need re-prerendered, but this is a great way to make them money, and to make the game available to a not-insignificant number of gamers who simply don't own a PS2. FF7 is already available to PS3/PSP owners in the form of a PSN download, so is not in nearly as great need of a port.

A full-on remake (of ff7 or of any game), on the other hand, would cost quite a bit of money, take quite a bit of time, and would require entirely new assets. Not to mention, they stand a much greater risk of alienating their customer base, by making it too much like the original (which would anger people who want to see the game work with the retcons from later materials) or not enough like the original (which would anger people who don't want to see a classic tampered with).

From a business perspective, this makes more sense. That's not to say they'll NEVER remake ff7, but it would be foolish to put that kind of investment into something that they could possibly screw up and would divert resources from other major projects, without first exhausting cheaper, easier sources of income.
True, and by some degrees I can understand this. But I mean, take a look at that fan-made unreal engine one. If novices could do that much without pay, imagine an actual development team! Either going classical with updated graphics or giving it a whole new makeover, they'll have my money. Heck pretty much as soon as that rumor of before crisis being ported to 3DS turns up true that'll be the only reason I buy a 3DS (main reason I bought a psp in the first place was for crisis core). I know I'm an FF7 whore. Same with FF8.

But I can understand the need for quick, cheaper, and easier income at the moment in Japan. With the tsunami and the bad economy it's a good business plan in order to stay up and running to get over that hump.

I mean I can see why they are going with sequels on some of the newer final fantasies and side stories as well. Recycling material and the same engine, with updates. Quicker and easier then starting from scratch. Can't blame them for that. But I'd like to see the investment they have on their recent games. I mean, even the other games like whatever that new one is called, "devils army corps" or something of that sort. And estimate in time and money what remaking FF7 would cost. At this point they could almost develop it for the ipad for crying out loud. At the very least they wont have to invest too much into the ff7 storyline. Although adding stuff to fill the gaps or interesting things from their older scripts (detective following avalanche anyone?).

General Discussion / Thoughts on FFX for psp vita
« on: 2011-12-14 04:36:04 »
Ok. Recently heard an announcement for FFX being ported to ps3 and psp vita and given an hd makeover.  :-\

Ok while I do admit I would still play it, I also think wtf....seriously, they are porting FFX before remaking ff7. To me that is sorta backwards. But still if it is to prove the vita is as good as a ps2 is the only sense I can make of it. Still, hoping for a new ffvii or ffviii.

What's everyone else's thoughts on the recent announcement?

XVI32 is the greatest hex editor of all time.  Google it.  It works with Wine, and I heard that the author will port it to Linux and Mac some day, via Lazarus. (hint: XVI32 is written in Pascal)

What do you want to learn about hex editing?  Do you know about hexadecimal?
Mainly just codes for color in hexadecimal for website making/editing. Basically I figured I should learn hex editing because it is often used here in looking at some of the files/program of ff7. I figured if I know hex editing better I could use it while programming to help make a few either useful or just entertaining programs for ff7. Or for use in cheat engine. But I basically see it enough times where I think I should get a basic grasp of it.

Yeah one of my books mentioned Pascal. One of the languages one of my books says is worth learning so I figure I should at least dabble in it at a later date.
If you want VB.NET help this might not be the best place because we're not experts. Also, all my code (until PrCMDI gets released) is pretty much a mess by my current standards. It's got some inefficient ways of doing things that you really shouldn't get in the habit of doing.
If you want help with VB, go to www.xtremevbtalk.com. There are lots of helpful people there that know 50 ways of doing any one thing. Pay particular attention to AtmaWeapon. He almost always gives an answer to most questions and his answers will be long and correct.

C++ is still a simple enough language. I learned a lot of it back in high-school and college about a decade ago, but haven't used it since. Consider going with something slightly higher than that like C# or Java.
Well no, no one is an expert at anything but I figured that with so many of the programs we are using having been created in visual studio, that at least the creators (the ones that are still around the boards at least) would have some handy tips. Anyways thank you fo the link to xtremevbtalk and a name of someone to watch out for. I'll be sure to use both so you have my gratitude.

As far is I've heard (and seen on craigslist) C++ is what is used alot in the industry. So I figured it was worth knowing. After that I figured I'd learn Java since it is the top language of this year. My uncle programs mostly in java and my father programs in VB. No not brother programmers, uncle is on my mothers side lol. Pretty much with my family, it was either go in the military, be an artist, or be a programmer. Tried my hand at military, one broken shoulder blade later I'm at programming. And I'm a mediocre artist plus I don't want to be the starving artist type so only having that as a spare hobby that might be helpful at times. After Java though I figure C# should be on my list.

I'd say reset your oblivion and morrowind along with any other bethesda games that you can find at "gamename" nexus, for mods. Download a hecka ton of mods to play in whatever style you want. Replay as garret from Thief in oblivion. Play as Duke Nukem in Fallout 3. So on and so forth. Also download quest mods so there are more adventure options.

60
Just for a quick catch up; I got my A+ cert this year, and have been learning basic web programming. Learning basics of flash on old but still registered version of flashMX. Been fiddling with ubuntu. Now I've been thinking of getting into programming. One of the places I thought of to ask random questions is here. Considering alot of the programs on qhim also have their source code for show, I thought it would be a good place for study ideas.
Picked out two languages to learn, visual basic to go with visual studio express. And after I get through that book, I have a book on C++.

Anyways just making sure that it wont be too annoying if I ask questions here.

Also with the hex editing, what is the best training material to read up on understanding it.

Completely Unrelated / Re: Any Bronies here?
« on: 2011-06-27 14:02:09 »
I only watch rule 34 episodes of MLP  8)

62
My solution: nuke polar ice caps, flood world, WATER WORLD :D

63
Making new events has been deemed near impossible as far as I know it. If it were I would have had more to go on with my mod ideas.

64
Toughest games for me, top of my list is chrono cross (XP pukeface)
Just got so annoying and boring at a certain point. Which as close as I can guess is about a 3rd of the way through the game. I also hated the elemental system. Only thing I liked was the concept of switching between two timelines and seeing changes of events and solving puzzles by bringing things over the dimensions. And the Jester girl.

65
I somewhat agree, lately all I've been playing is Rpgs that let you make decisions, decide how you look etc, mainly Fallout 3/New vegas, Oblivion and KOTOR, I guess when your life gets boring enough, being able to somewhat place your conscious on a game character helps. But I won't go as far as saying other Rpg's don't cut it anymore, Just play the Life stealer that is:  legend of Heroes, Trails in the sky, or Golden Sun Dark dawn, all great
It's just that being able to mold my characters personality and have my decisions affect the overall outcome is just something that's way to appealing, now if only the Esrb would die and then they add immersive sexual activity into these kinds of games...one can dream.
If by immersive you mean can control the action. Umm, Second Life(roleplay areas), Oblivion, and Fallout you get to choose poses/animations. On Dragon age it's more like a movie.
And yes I'm talking about the PC versions with mods out there.
I believe there's some for the mass effect series as well. Probably, again, cinematic like dragon age.

Open world where everything gets repetive and you start to feel like there is nothing to do, Bad character designs (Or ugly character parts for creation), bad story, clichéd drama (This is everywhere), usually bad gameplay elements..

So yeah.. Most WRPGs are bad just like any other game. It does not matter what genre, all it has to be is a good game.
Depends, as I've pointed out, I tend to play the PC versions over platform just cause I can mod them. I usually do an original playthrough with vanilla and then mod it however I want.
EX made FallOut3 into Duke Nukem Fallout3D, mainly for fun while waiting on the next duke nukem game.

It's actually fun to make my own quests, and follow other peoples created quests. Go treasure hunting. Modded in farming, jobs, crafting etc. All the "naughtay" mods. The idea of making in game movies. etc.
For example, in Oblivion I had fun making Tristim from Diablo and 5 levels of hell (what expecting me to do 50. Not unless I'm paid.) And yeah, remake/refollow of the diablo story but still interesting to see from oblivion graphics versus diablos graphics.
Original quest I used to have in the works (jobs and job hunting has given me a poor excuse to be lazy on game modding though I've done more art) was one in oblivion based on everyone falling into dream/nightmare world. You have to take yourself and a priestess to the temples to try and get the deities to awaken Morpheus (god of dreams) Sorta think FF10 with more options and no "death" at the end

66
I'm wondering if I'm the only one doing this. In the last couple of years, I've steered more away from the standard rpg and more towards open ended rpgs. Meaning you create your own characters, stories (that go along with the main quest) and sometimes mod it.

Stuff like FF7, FF8, FFX was what I originally played and favored. Now it's more like balders gate, Oblivion, Dragon Age, Fallout, etc.

Maybe cause there is more option to break the standard mold of being emo characters (cloud, Squall) or super hyper kid characters (tidus, Vaan). Maybe cause you have an option of going with the spunky fun girl(yuffie, selphie, Rikku) or the mature woman(tifa-ish, Quistis, LuLu) rather then a homely young woman(aerith, Yuna) Or maybe cause I could have the option to hack the game and fix the story to stop the girl from dying (FF7 with Aerith)

IDK, what do you all think, Railroad RPG's or Open Ended?

General Discussion / Re: Final Fantasy VIII - opinions?
« on: 2011-04-23 04:46:32 »
I still have to say FF8 is my favorite final fantasy. I've always been a fan of the confusing time travel storylines lol.

As for gameplay, meh, I play alot of games where the gameplay sucks (LIFELINE) but the concept or story are interesting. Problem is, after seven I really didn't like the fact that I had to collect screws and stuff to make weapons. So I said "screw that" and played through the whole thing and beat it on original weapons. Something not really to be suggested in FF7 or 10. But is entirely possible with stat boost in the junction system. Real life version you could take a plastic butterknife, junction a good ifrit and you have a dang nuke. Not to mention all the magic and items that help.

And I'm a bit of a sap for love stories. This one is abit too... easy and straightforward. No matter what Cloud gets rinoa. At least in FF7 you got to choose your date. Personally I liked Quistis (maybe it's cause of the whip and the whole young maturaty thing). Rinoa is abit of a switchbitch in my opinion. As soon as she breaks up with Seifer she goes hitting on Squall. I have don't blame Seifer for being a douche to Squall in the game.

And triple triad. Dang the only thing I wish to mainly change with that is the annoying music. Otherwise it's easy but challenging enough to have fun. Heck I just waste time on my psp playing it in balamb even before going out to get ifrit.

And Laguna is the most irresponsible parent I have ever seen.

wait... why did I like this game again?
Innocence of youth. I was young enough when it first game out that I didn't think of all these things. Back then it was sappy love story, graphical eye candy, and pretty music. Sad to say I even used "eyes on me" as a final in drama class. Yes I'm a guy, yes i know it's a girls song, but I had it memorized easily enough.

It's unsure if Jenova was dormant or not. If s/he controlled sephiroth. I remember reading some of the original scripts somewhere all the sephiroth's seen along the journey along with the cloaked figures are pieces of Jenova that assumed sephiroth's form. Also Jenova does have he/r one line in the ancient city.
The whole split sex thing I'm putting in is simply due to infalna's use of HE in the ancients legends of jenova.

Link to early material files, there are other ones that are interesting to read on the same site.
http://thelifestream.net/final-fantasy-vii/2075/early-material-file-scenarios-and-scripts-p-527-528-of-the-final-fantasy-vii-ultimania-omega/

69
That plus I think the original Square explanation was the Jenova effect. Basically remember Infalna describing how Jenova took people's loved one's forms, messing with memories, driving people to insanity, creating monsters, etc. Well what if the Jenova cells in Cloud affected Tifa's memories as much as they did Cloud thinking and taking on attributes of Zack.

General Discussion / Re: Dissidia 012 - anyone got it yet?
« on: 2011-03-27 04:51:44 »
1. Purchase game
2. download 100% save off gamefaqs
3; .....?
4. PROFIT :D

Mostly did that to enjoy the story part. Now I'll go back through and earn my items. I dont play against other people so it doesnt matter.

One odd thing I notice is that the way the screen tunnels when a battle is starting, looks like the tunnels in FF7 when Cloud is being.... flown to sephiroth for the final battle.

71
Yes, I love it. I think I may make it my boot screen

I would have to change it though, so I dont have a horrible bright white boot screen, make it a black background with white letters. Permission to change your idea?  ;)

I don't own windows or Final Fantasy 7. I say, shoot, go for it. Thanks for asking though :)

Why thank you, and you may not own them, but that was your own personal idea to merge the two.
Tis true, I find it funny that when I try googling different phrasings of my idea, nothing even close comes up. I would've even settled for windows logo in a streaking meteor but nothing lol.

I'm not a major prick about copyright. The only time I did get buggered about some copy of my own creation is some chick copied and made a cleaner version of a story I called Voodude (basically think voodoo magic coin falls to a regular guy and it attracts wealth and women to him.  Some rules apply. Smut novella.) and she copied the name, characters name (my middle names) and basis of storyline. I enjoyed the read but kindly told her that I'd like her to add my information about my original and credit to me. She did so but I do give people a chance. Other then that no one's tried to copy my work.

At least you had a good experience. My experience was not so good. I shall not go into details though as the mods here wouldnt like it and it involved not only someone going against the copyright on my work, but also it involved me going against some actual real copyrights. No worrys, it had nothing to do with ff or squaresoft in anyway =]
plausible deniability eh?

Well, since it seems like a cool image for a signature, and now that all my computers are running windows 7, I should fix up the logo then. So suggestions are welcome. Thanks Obesebear.

75
Ok, basically my mind connnected windows 7 and FF7 today. So somehow this concept turned up

Good for a chuckle so I decided to make it. Tell me what you all think.
