General Discussion / Re: Honey Bee Inn beta version video

Tsetra on this board also worked extensively on this area of the game so he might know more about this.

I understand the process now.  Even more involved than I thought but I guess it has to be done ...

As for help, you might get a few more bites if you posted a thread in the Game Tweaking section.  I'm unsure how many people actually look at other forums.

As for your second door, I thought you meant your second model, not the one already in-game.

203
I'd have thought that piracy would be a huge problem for the DS. Or maybe it is, and its sales would be even higher otherwise. A scary thought!

I'm thinkinb the DS's demographic isn't really into emulation.  Brain Age and Nintendogs aren't games I'd like to sit in front of my PC for.

Also, I'd think the dual screen and stylus must be obstacle to system-like emulation.

204
Why is it higher thsn the original ?  It seems your new background starts where the old doors finished ?

And I also have a question.

How will making new models improve the textures ?  This might be a silly question but I was under the impression it was because the original backgrounds were too low a resolution that they're of such low quality.  How is making models and reapplying those same textures on new modelled backgrounds through sketchup going to solve that issue ?

"Back then I only got scraped knees"
in reference to the Tifa Mt. Nibel accident.

It's Cloud's subconsciousness trying to bring his conscious self back to reality.

That's also how I intepreted it when doing the script for FF7Voice.  It's Cloud subconcious represented in his mind by his 7-10 year old self while in the lifestream.

206
In my personal opinion, a mix of d33niz's black background and title combined with pyrozen's Cloud would be awesome.

Feels more ... true to the orginal in some way.

Requirements for the
you have to first run the config and set it up ... then run the FF7open.reg if you have a 64-bit windows run the FF7opengl64.reg file :), if you run the config program for ff7 afterwards you will have to re add the .reg file to your regestry.
Worth noting, you have to have the 1.02 versions of ff7.exe and ff7config.exe, and (I think) you have to set the config to use hardware rendering, not software.
Still not working.  Didn't see a "Hardware rendering" option, though, so I ticked the "NVIDIA" box, and selected "Direct3D Hardware Acceleration."

I was under the impression the ff7 config was only needed for setting up the sound as the registry replaces all video settings in the registry ?  Untick the nvidia box, set up your sound. click ok. then run the registry fix.

You're supposed to run ff7config and then the registry fix, not the other way around.  eah time you'll run the ff7config, you'll need to re-run the registry fix afterwards.

Also, I've never seen the behavior under XP, but you might need to run ff7config, the reg file and the game as administrator.   I've also never seen this behavior under xp but installing to a non-standard location (NOT in program files) solved some vista issues.  It also needs to be a complete instal I believe (it needs to be for all other mods anyway).

I'd also use a stock config file (redownload the original) to rule out any config issues.  If hardware acceleration isnt checked in ff7config, the difference between the two should be apparent enough.

I've just come back to this site (after installing FF7 again lol) and noticed all this FF7 Voice talk lol.  After a few PMs with Mesden I've got a bit of an interest in this.  I know most of the big characters and main NPCs are taken and how there are really only little roles left.  I was just wondering if we could get an updated list of what small characters/lines still do not have a voice.  I'd even be interested in only a few villagers if I can lol.

Officially, all male roles are filled.  We, however, welcome understudies so PM me your e-mail and I'll get in touch with you if you want to send in a demo.  That stands for everyone too.

As for female roles, only Shera and Lucrecia are open at this point.

We do also have a whole list of NPC's (over 50, both male and female) and understudies and smaller roles would be set up to do those.

Completely Unrelated / Re: Sex offender shuffle
« on: 2010-01-11 21:34:45 »

So, is it only sex offenders whose identity gets revealed to their neighbours? I wonder whether US lawmakers think that it's more important for people to know about 19-year-olds who have sex with their 17-year-old girlfriends or basement dwellers who are caught with lolicon manga than about murderers who might be living amongst them.

(on a related note, I often think that the Anglo-Saxon countries are having a competition to see who can be the most hysterical about paedophilia. If so, Canada is winning after overtaking Britain :-D)

Once you read the actual article, it actually makes sense.  No cybersex with 12 years old.  Of course, it leaves room for interpretation and therein lies the problem ...

I run at 720p.

I'd suggest keeping your current work as its more future-proof and ... welll ... its already done ?

It should be noted that emperor steele will be taking down his page shortly.  it probably should be mirrored elsewhere.

hey

just curious about the status of this mod.

I do wish that Japanese companies wouldn't mess around with the international releases of games, thinking that the baka gaijin will choke on their Big Macs if they see or hear anything that isn't thoroughly Hollywoodised. The Japanese theme song was a little better; still crap, but not as crap. At least it sounds like something that might be from a video game.
ually mindlessly bash every change?

I don't find that a bad thing.  I HATE singing in video games (and movies).  At least this might be an actual enjoyable song this way (would still be better without IMO).

Yup, as I said PS3 has more potential in the end 'cause of it's cpu, which also includes better graphics. 360 games are compromised because of it's cpu, not because of it's gpu. I couldn't care less 'bout the PS3 vs Xbox 360 war, but facts are facts.

Isn't the PS3 seriously underpowered in the GPU department since it was a last minute addition ?  GPU's tend to influence graphics alot more than CPU's do on the PC so I would tend to sway toward the 360's approach.

Notice : I own neither console (though I use a wireless 360 pad for my computer gamepad.  I always liked MS's hardware (as in mouses, keyboards, game controllers; not zune or 360).  They always feel like they're awesome quality (especially compared to Sony's controllers - can't recall how many PS2 controllers I owned broke).

edit : listened to the song.  not great but not awful either.  pretty m'eh.

Team Avalanche / Re: Project goals
« on: 2009-11-10 15:11:45 »
In order to dump the whole script for the ff7 voice project, I had to visit every field file in the game using loveless.  To my knowledge, none are missing from loveless.

Loveless shows 729 different files, 27 of which are not field files (tex and tut files) for a total of 702 field files, each with a background.

Out of those 702, there are 17 black backgrounds (no background at all - mostly used for debug and "mind" scenes).  And in the rest, there are plenty of repeats such as 10 or so blank snow fields.

So I'd say around 600 to 650 is a nice estimate of how many backgrounds will need to actually be re-done.

Still a mammoth task to say the least (and not one I would undertake unless a huge team was in place given the fact that 3 hours x 650 = 1950 hours = 81 24h days!).  And has background tiling ever been solved ?

Still, backgrounds and movies are the two single untouched issue the game still could see major improvements in (since everything else is in WIP).  There's likely little to be done for movies given the fact that the source material is of such low quality but the backgrounds are exciting to think about.

edit : thought occurred to me that the discrepancy between your number and the actual field files might come from the layers in each background.  What you saw might have been individual layers.  Layers might actually play in your favour as well if you can just work the actual background without all the details such as ladders, etc.  Not as much finicking needed that way.

Team Avalanche / Re: Project goals

there are 750-something field files in the game.  Some have shared backgrounds (and a moving element is changed in the scene, ex: underwater dock in junon = with sub and without sub).

That means there would be around 600 to 700 backgrounds to actually modify in the game (exlucing repeats, white and black bg, etc).

You can view the exact amount in loveless although the bg preview function is sometimes corrupted in it.

217
No problem.

I sent you a reply just now.

To all others : Not all roles were applied for anyway so if anybody has anybody specific you'd like to voice, you can try and submit something in to the e-mail above.  Priority will go to those who have auditioned however.

v95 : thanks.  appreciate it.

bosola : AWESOME voice.  We'll try and find you a spot.  Send me a mail with your contact info.  And could you try and do the voice of an old man ?  If you can, you could make bugenhagen sound very wise.

222
Awesome.  Can't wait for the next version.

With this and other awesome models, the GUI overhaul and WMRP, the game is really getting a nice facelift in the graphical department.

I tried out for Cloud/Sephiroth in the first casting call. I would go for it again but I don't think I have the time with school and everything   If you're ever in need of another extra or maybe some npc role. PM me and I'll see if I can help you out  :-D

As mentionned above, we're always in need of EXTRAS and Minor NPC.

At this point nobody has come forward on :

Individual Roles : Lucrecia, Bugenhagen, Shera, Palmer, Godo, Zangan,

Multiple Roles :Tifa's Father, Priscilla, Priscilla's Father, Cloud's mom, choco bill, choco billy, Chole, Mukki, Ester, Mr Coates, Joe, Holzoff, Gorkii, Shake, Chekhov, Staniv + EXTRAS

As you can see, still lots of room for people to try out.

We can always fill most of these roles with the existing cast and the ones who already applied for an audition but we'd much rather have diversity.

That said, can we please move on and talk about our project that is the FF7 PRP?

I will oblige.  I don't think nobody has ever received a definitive answer from you guys about the flashing materia issue.

Is that something you've been able to reproduce on your systems ?  Did you find out the cause ?

As for myself, its happened on all 3 systems I've tried the PRP on (old ati 9600 pro system, intel GMA laptop, new radeon 4850 system) but I do have a bunch of other patches applied (so I've renamed the lgp to their original names and overwrote the default ones).

To my knowledge however, the PRP was the only graphical mod I applied to my laptop.  The others were hay's reasonable mod, spell names patches and ff7 music (plus the stock patches at the time : 1.02, chocobo, tm codec 2.0).

I applaud this project's persistence in seeing things through to the end. Good luck with finding your voice actors.

This WILL see the light of day.  The script was way too long to dump in its entirety for it to be otherwise!

----

On a more serious note however, we've received our first official auditions.

One Cloud and one Zack have stepped forward and provided us with quality auditions with more potential VA's committed to audition before Friday.

Only 5 days left!  Don't be shy to send something in if you're interested.  We'll find you a spot.
