Hmm... They must suck at timing real bad then because it even does it with the PSX! Square = :drunk:

That is pretty funny. Looks like he's biting his lower lip. I don't know the solution but it looks like he shaved to me. You might want to wait for his 5 'oclock shadow to show up.

That weird sound effect might be just some extra junk that was never taken out of the game because Square either didn't have the time or they all got drunk the day before it was to be produced and thus never got it taken out. It reminds me of the "secret" sound effect from FF8.[/quote]

Don't have too much space to put movies on HD and I don't think it's the timing. A better example is when you see Ultimecia for the final battle and she's in her throne. She jitters in that chair so bad!!

Yeah, I get the same thing too but I just didn't use it after that. It was too much of a hassle to come all the way back and post about it so I forgot about it... Oh well...

I know this has almost nothing to do with this thread but why is it that 3D models don't stay in one place when the background is changed to a movie? Example: When Irvine takes the shot in FF8 and in the train sequence as you metioned a while back.

In case you were wondering why there is no quality difference from the PSX and PC versions is simply put: the PSX versions movies are interlaced which means scanlines. More scanlines means less pixelation but does make the screen dimmer so that's why you have turn up the brightness on your TV when you play a game. And the PC versions are not interlaced. That's also why you remember NES games looking so much better back in the day... :)

Wait, so why can't they follow the faces from the FMVs? They show good faces for the characters...

Not that I remember... to my memory it is a short sequence lasting only about 15 minutes.

That pixelation you speak of has to do with the resolution of the movies.(which can't be changed) It seems to me that the only thing you can do is either blur it (anti-aliasing) or redo all the movies yourself. Stretching will obviously make it more pixelated and as it is a full screen game, looking at the movies through a window will not help you out. In short, re-encoding the movie does nothing but format it to another type of file and no codec will change that. And lastly, no there is no other way with currently existing technology... sorry.

I have to admit, those graphics SUCK! I know it's pretty old but I swear, Twisted Metal 2 had better graphics!

Keep in mind, that screenshot is in 32 bit color and a higher resolution than the PC version.

Actually, those graphics were awesome for the time. The vertex shading is really pretty, and many pro-N64 people I knew swore up and down that the summons were FMV.

It was a nice way to prove all those PSX haters wrong. Thier strongest arguments were.

1) There were horrible load times
(Did you ever see a "loading" screen in FF7 other than loading a game?)

2) The graphics were all pixelated and anti-aliased
(I usally showed them one of the Bahamut summons)

3) You can damage the disk easily
(I know, but that's only if you get your slimy hands all over it you irresponsible shit-bag!)

The N64 was a toy, and Nintendo has some really bad internal politics to gaming. I remember when the N64 wasn't doing so good and Next Gen had a cover with Mario with broken glass motif with the title "Is there something wrong with Nintendo?"

Man they got *HAMMERED* by fanboys in the next issue, but they were right.

I shoudn't be one to talk though, Nintendo owns the #1 most sold console system in the history in videogaming. It's holds almost near monopoly status that I don't think Sony's going to break with thier next-gen product (PSP) designed to go up against it. Even Sega tried and failed, and they had some damn fine technology not to mention hot chicks at the gaming conventions.

It's going to be an intresting christmas.

Well I to be honest I don't have faith in Nintendo anymore since the whole N64 fiasco. Except for Gameboy and their up and coming Nintendo DS (dual screen), I think their products have gone down the crapper. After what started as a trading card company gone the way of video games during the times of Atari, I think this company's done. Sure it's featured cutting edge graphics every time a new system was released but now it's always replaced by something bigger and better and I think they've come to realize their defeat just over the horizon. It's golden years were during the advent of SNES and Gameboy. I think it was great that our beloved FF series was born on their NES but I think it's over now. I don't think Nintendo will be releasing anything else but toys from now on...

Interesting Christmas indeed... at least in Japan because PSP doesn't come out until early 2005.

Note: Qhimm would edit your posts like your mommy changing your diapers and now so will I everytime I quote you... :wicked:

I really think it's about time people let go. I wasn't this annoying when my grandfather died!!  It's fictional!!! Your family isn't!! She wasn't even that hot!!

As for the junk left in video games, play FF5 in ZSNES and disable some layers. You'll see what mean. So much crap under what's actually visible!! I don't even leave that much shit in my RPG Maker 2000 games... :)

Archive / FFVIII XP Patch?
« on: 2004-07-05 15:21:12 »
Well, it's like Messiah said, it's probably your system. This used to happen to me but on Windows 98. Damn thing would only give BSOD's at first but then one day it started to just reboot the system. Sad day indeed... I had to play the PSX version on CVGS. But I solved it by upgrading to XP. So maybe a Windows reinstall will do the trick?

Isn't it called GameShark? Why take so long to cheat the game? That is what you are essentially doing. The point of the game is to level up! If you finish it early, you will be bored for the rest of the game! What? Do you want to k.o. Sephiroth when you fight along side him in the flashback or what? Absolutely pointless...

You know, I don't know why people were sad that
Spoiler: show
Aeris dies
I wasn't sad when Selphie and Irvine never shagged in FF8 or thinking about making a patch or make them (which by the way, would make it a hentai game)  What? Are real girls not pretty enough? Forget it! She doesn't even help the story out! It's just a useless character like Yuffie! If
Spoiler: show
Yuffie died
you wouldn't be crying now would you? Tifa would probably be the only real problem if

she died
because she's a big chunk in the past. It's not as bad as someone actually

but yet you've been

mourning
a bunch of polygons and textures for about 7 years! If she was of any importance, would she

so early? Not even Cloud cared that she had

died
by the end of the game. And you've finished the game about 4 billion times over haven't you?

Note: Not trying to start a flame war.  Just trying to inform the general public on why Aeris (or Aerith which sounds like a brand of pill for menopause which is what most Aeris

have because they won't stop bitching 7 years later.)

dies.

Archive / Strange brightness...
« on: 2004-07-04 15:45:31 »
Yeah I've tried. It only gets dim when it shows that part of the sequence though. Everything else looks fine. Just those few seconds that it shows that. It has correct lighting throughout the game. I'm stumped. Notice that even the ATB gauges are correctly lit and bright. I don't know. This problem is similar to the healing wind problem where the ball doesn't show. It's only during that specific part of the sequence where it looks wrong. I'm guessing the Square team was either: 1) Too drunk to do anything about it. 2) Totally overworked and sleepy as hell. or 3) retarded.

They shouldn't just use compression but at least use an original compression tool. I was playing Return to Castle Wolfenstein recently and got bored so I started to poke about and found the data files. They were compressed in nothing but a .lzs file!! The files themselves weren't too great either. They were simple .tga and .wav files. The only thing that was compressed good were the 3D models. They were in a seperate folder from the compressed .lzs folders.

In FF8 when I use Eden, there seems to be this dark spot. Maybe this image will help:

Notice the weird lighting that happens?? It's not as bright or coloful as it should be. It looks too pale. There's also some weird junk in the front of the galaxy image. It's a lot of what I'm supposing are polygons that aren't used right. Any help would be greatly appreciated
