It would help to know if you desire to mod the PC or PSX version of the game. For PC, you can use Cosmo but the PC version will be fixed by DLPB soon, which also include a better way to mod the sound files.

PSX has no audio.dat. The closest thing would probably be EFFECT.ALL but even then, those are just the samples, which the AKAO program uses to synthesize the actual audio in real time. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though. I haven't extensively studied the inner workings of the game.

The last part of his post is a bit cryptic for me - it was a diplomatic way to find out what he desire to do.

Huh, I seem to have missed that part earlier. Still, with the way things are, I'd say he means he wants to restore the crappy PC audio to what it was in PSX. Which is, like you said, what DLPB is doing currently.

(Sorry for my bad english)
Anyway, I refer to the PC version.
Time ago I found this patch, that simply need to replace files "audio.dat" and "audio.fmt"
to have the PSX sounds (Voices & Effects).

My mod will only fix the English version (English exe) of the game. However modding an english exe for use with all non-English games may also not be a problem for much longer.  Apart from certain text that would have to be amended to fit.

As for audio.dat... you can use http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=12755.0

I don't understand how to extract it. I put sfxdump and sfxpack in folder:
C:\Programmi\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\data\sound

And now? i use Drag and Drop or Prompt command?

That's actually not a problem anymore since your first version of hextlaunch and the creation of the gamesconverter with it. We have already the files to change the English version of the game to the official translated ones.
