Hey Guys I just found HD background FF9 PC

surfing through the web I found the original artwork when FF9 was developed.

this is much better resolution (upto 2048x1080) and better color pallette (32bit color)
I don't know why square decide to use upscaled and filtered PS1 texture (320x240) and 24bit color pallette

Consistency, I'd bet. Since that original artwork isn't available for all the game's backgrounds, only some, if Square Enix were to use them it would lead to vastly different quality levels from one screen to the next.

that could be, but the picture is taken from the original dev team, there are people who still have them.
why can't they contacted their ex employee, give them some buck to dig their old hard drive for some artwork

maybe this is because Hironobu Sakaguchi philosophy, that he hated ports, so the original development team wouldn't even thin of archiving them.

what's going through their heads to just delete years of hard work and thousands of man hour

When painting a picture do leave the brushes as they are or do you clean them for another project? Keep in mind at the time ff9 was developed square had to face few financial problems. So they had to clean their dirty brushes for other projects. Also do you think ff9 will sell much better if it would have highres backgrounds? SE needs to pay every single person which do have an backup of the image. They probably paid around 30 thousand dollars and get million with that re release. Why should they pay 250 thousand dollars to get 1,2 million? sure this are wild assumptions but it gives you an idea why they didn't put to much work on the bgs. Oh and don't tell me something about reputation, the name final fantasy is reputation enough and according to the reality ignorant ff diehards we can be happy about every #%"-% they give us for PC.
